Western Digital My Book Essential 500GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive £53.82 Buffalo DriveStation 500GB External Hard Drive TurboUSB £49.95 Are any of these good? Which is the best? Do you know any other good/better ones?

Shorty Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I have that exact Western Digital My Book, it's very small and sleek, and it has worked perfectly. I would say negative features are, built in software - just not worth it and needs deleting ASAP, the icon in '(My) Computer' is the WD one, when I just want a regular drive icon, which is a pain to change, it has no physical on-off switch and the light is very bright in the dark (I turned mine to face the side of my desk!). I also have a 320GB Seagate which has never caused me problems, although I have read a few reports of people having all their data wiped on both of these. I'm actually thinking this must be down to utter negligence, maybe knocking them about or unplugging during a data write, because they've been very stable for me. btw http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/304573/western-digital-1tb-external-hard-d
EEVILMURRAY Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I had a WD USB external hard drive. It suddenly fucked up and shut down on me. Wiping all the data it's supposed to be backing up lest the PC fucked up. Are these My Books more reliable?
