External Hard Drives

I'm thinking of getting an external hard drive to back up my PC. I'd want 500GB or more. Don't want to spend a ridiculous amount.

Western Digital My Book Essential 500GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive £53.82

Buffalo DriveStation 500GB External Hard Drive TurboUSB £49.95

Are any of these good? Which is the best? Do you know any other good/better ones?

I have that exact Western Digital My Book, it's very small and sleek, and it has worked perfectly.

I would say negative features are, built in software - just not worth it and needs deleting ASAP, the icon in '(My) Computer' is the WD one, when I just want a regular drive icon, which is a pain to change, it has no physical on-off switch and the light is very bright in the dark (I turned mine to face the side of my desk!).

I also have a 320GB Seagate which has never caused me problems, although I have read a few reports of people having all their data wiped on both of these. I'm actually thinking this must be down to utter negligence, maybe knocking them about or unplugging during a data write, because they've been very stable for me.
