Kirkatronics Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Why does it cost so much more to buy a computer from somewhere like PC world than somewhere like my local PC shop. It seems to be atleast twice as good for the same price. I would have thought the bigger companies would be able to sell them for less. My theory is the 'trust' that customers misleading put in these businesses.
Cube Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 There's a lot of people who buy computers who don't know a lot about them. These people will likely go to a well-known store and will likely not know that they can be much cheaper elsewhere.
Shorty Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Exactly, they're preying on people who do not understand computers well enough to find the same or better spec systems elsewhere at much better prices.
MoogleViper Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Basically they are doing it because they can. People trust big retailers and as Cube and Shorty said, people don't know enough about computers so will happily pay double the price.

PC World are pretty good value if you know what you're looking for, it's common to find a bargain thats actually sold at less than it'd cost me to build it! Same goes for Dell. My local computer shops on the other hand WILL screw people over properly. PC World might oversell, but the locals will sell you out-dated product at the price it retailed at 3 years ago

If you want a fantastic PC deal, you have to be prepared to learn a little and do a bit of research.

Kirkatronics Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 Where is this shop? Because it sounds awesome! The staff are amazingly helpful too, my friend once needed a cable of some sort, but they didn't sell them on their own.. He gave him one for free, how nice is that? Its in Barnsley BTW and its called 'Icon'. Its a really small shop though.
