danny Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Hi im not a tech geek at all. So i have no idea what EDTV/HDTV is. I just noticed the option on the back of the mario kart case. Im guessing its something to do with HD. I thaught Wii did not have HD support. How do i go about activating this as i recently got a samsung HD tv. Any help greathfully recieved as i do not have a clue lol
Shorty Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 The Wii has support for 480p output (sharper definition than standard, not quite High Definition). If you get a component cable you can make use of it.
danny Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 if its not actual HD is it worth the money for the cable. or can you not really tell. thanks btw
Fresh Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Have a look here danny : http://n-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9573
McPhee Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 EDTV is Enhanced Definition TV, or 480p and 576p resolutions The HDTV label is Nintendo just trying to jump on a bandwaggon that they aren't part of. The Wii supports EDTV, but not HDTV. HDTVs support EDTV resolutions, therefore you can get 480p on your Wii using the compontent cables (and possibly the RGB cable? not sure on this one)
Caris Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I would defo say it's worth the money for the Component cable yeah.
Shorty Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Yeah you get a much crisper picture with component as long as you remember to go into the options once you're using the cable and turn on the option
danny Posted August 3, 2008 Author Posted August 3, 2008 ok cheers guys willl get one next time im in town. Is there any difference between the offical cable and the game one? Apart from the price.
danny Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 Got a composite cable today. plugged it all in. changed the settings on the wii and maybe its just me but i cant tell the difference. and that was playing mario kart which is supposed to support it.
Marshmellow Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 A composite cable or a component cable? Cause you need a component one bub... The Wii still looks shit on HDTV's, even with the cable :p
Jackster Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 You would be able to tell the different between using a composite cable anda component cable, but if you were using SCART RGB before and moved to Component it would be pretty hard to see the difference in my experience, even with 480p enabled.
