Deathjam Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 This is ridiculous. Japan is turning into a monopoly for Nintendo. Good for them, but the games that we get will possibly be dictated by their tastes. I remember watching a developer say that they were buying less games until the wii came out with its casual titiles and experience.

LazyBoy Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Because, and i'm sticking my neck out there by saying this, but it hasn't got enough good games. Even the Wii has more high class hardcore games than the PS3. And it is too expensive. And it is too big. And because the Japanese respect innovation, of which the PS3 has none.
Deathjam Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Are there that many games that would satisfy the japanese in the PS3's catalogue? As far as I know there isn't but I am no expert so meh. Gonna see if i can find some answers EDIT: Well looks to me like there are more games for the PS3 released in other regions than japan, and some of the games released in japan would not be in their interests anyways e.g. Call of Duty PS3 Games releases list from wikipedia
Hellfire Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Monster Hunter really does wonders for PSP, I wonder how will it be when MH3 comes out. Nintendo will need a huge production boost.
Deathjam Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Monster Hunter really does wonders for PSP, I wonder how will it be when MH3 comes out. Nintendo will need a huge production boost. Ah i had *just* put this game at the back of my mind. Now i have to force myself to forget it alllll over again.
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Even the Wii has more high class hardcore games than the PS3. LOL And because the Japanese respect innovation lol. Not quite as big a lol as the last one, but still pretty funny.
LazyBoy Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 LOL lol. Not quite as big a lol as the last one, but still pretty funny. LOL See I can be an ass too. Now try an intelligent response. SSBB, Galaxy, Prime3, Zack&Wiki, Zelda (also GC), Fire Emblem, Resi4 (significant improvement), Super Paper Mario, Okami (significant improvement) v COD4 (360), Oblivion (PC), Rock Band (360), Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, ORange box (360, PS3), Burnout (360), Resistance Those are the hardcore games, pretty open and shut, especially if you have a 360 (which I do). As for your second witty response I don't understand if you think the Japs don't respect innovation, or the PS3 is innovative. Either way your wrong.

You seemed to skip a lot of PS3 games there, I'm sure it was an accident. And before you ask me to list them, try Wikipedia or even Google for fucks sake. As for your second witty response I don't understand if you think the Japs don't respect innovation, or the PS3 is innovative. Either way your wrong. I don't think the PS3 is innovative in the least, but if you think that the Wii is selling because it's "innovative" then you're nuts. It doesn't take a genius to see that it's popular because of who it's aimed at, not because it's revolutionized anything or innovatived in the least. Nobody except a very select few people respect innovation or doing things differently at all. The only way the machine is innovative or different is in who's it's aimed at. I'd be willing to bet that a huge percentage of Wii owners will have bought it so they can play Wii Sports with their kids.

Ahh but the PS3 is a fully loaded console covering every base except IR functionality And it does all this as smoothly and quietly (in my case quieter) as the Wii. If you ask me the Wii is too big and too expensive by comparison

I'd be willing to bet that a huge percentage of Wii owners will have bought it so they can play Wii Sports with their kids. I took the top 10 off gamerankings, if I missed any they weren't deemed that great by the gaming press. The Wii is innovative not simply because of where it is targeted, the other consoles could simply aim at a market, it is how the Wii-mote allows games to be played intuitively, and this is what the Japanese like about it. And don't give me the crap about only casuals buying it. The sales of SSBM disprove that on its own. Ahh but the PS3 is a fully loaded console covering every base except IR functionality And it does all this as smoothly and quietly (in my case quieter) as the Wii. If you ask me the Wii is too big and too expensive by comparison And IR functionality is where it is at, which will be proven when the PS4 has it. My mate's PS3 is actually fairly loud, and it's slower as well (as in loading times and the like). The Wii is expensive for what it is, but not too expensive for the market which the PS3 is.
Shino Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 I love how there's so many charts, just in case someone misses the point that Nintendo fucking rules over there. Looking at the top 10 gamerankings games for the PS3 I can totally understand why it doesn't sell as much over there. Its basically a western console.
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 The Wii is innovative not simply because of where it is targeted, the other consoles could simply aim at a market, it is how the Wii-mote allows games to be played intuitively, and this is what the Japanese like about it.That's arguable, but I can see what you mean. And don't give me the crap about only casuals buying it. The sales of SSBM disprove that on its own. Smash Bros. is the absolute must have game on the Wii for the more hardcore gamers. It has sold 4.85 million units worldwide. There are 24.45 million Wii's in people's homes at the moment. That's a pretty big gap. The fact is that most Wii owners are happy with only Wii Sports and maybe Wii Fit and the concept of buying a Metroid or Smash. Bros game hasn't even occurred to them. Carnival Games outsold Metroid Prime 3 ffs. Most Wii owners are casuals, which is great for Nintendo because they make a profit on every console sold. But I can't imagine the likes of Konami, Capcom and Square suddenly releasing a lot of games for it. They'll keep porting games from the Gamecube and PS2 and maybe giving the 6 or 7 million Wii owners who are actually gamers a side game whilst the 'main series' stays on the consoles that sells the most games (see: Resident Evil, Soul Calibur etc.). And it's a shame, I'd love to see more 'proper' games on the machine because I think the remote genuinely is really fun to use imo.
LazyBoy Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 I agree with your entire post, I honestly do. I'll be the first to admit the Wii has weaknesses and if you head over to the Wii board you'd see i'm constantly swimming against the tide (it goes the other way over there, obviously). My view is at the moment that both the PS3 and Wii are far from reaching their full potential at the moment, with the Wii edging slightly ahead, but the PS3 having a brighter future. You compare both to the 360, and the 360 storms ahead (despite having a slight lack of diversity in its genres and being very western-centric). Both need improvement. The PS3 needs something new (LBP is not enough) and the Wii needs more substantial content(why the fuck haven't we seen a 3D pokemon RPG yet? And don't give me that coliseum crap). The problem comes that with only the PS3 does it REALLY need improvement, mainly because of the sales, and that's why it will get it and why the PS3 will eventually blossom (that was gay). The Wii however, sigh, we may never get it. Nintendo can sit back now and count the money.
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 I totally agree. I'm glad to own both and I've played some awesome games on both of them, but they're both way behind what they have the potential to be.
