McMad Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I have a wireless router; the BR-6004 W-G1, from Dynamode. I've had it for a year now and it's been working great, until the Wednesday that has just passed. I came home to find that my Virgin Media internet connection wasn't working. So after a day of no internet a technician came to my house (while I was at school) and fixed the connection. He said to my dad that the router was causing the problems so it was disconnected from my Modem and Computer and now everything is working fine again. His solution; 'Get a software upgrade'. Earlier I tried to see if my router would work now but it turned out the technician was right and it was causing my internet problems. I've literally tried everything: -The Dynamode website is no help at all for this product; all the links relating to it are dead. - I've tried many different searches on Google; none of the results were helpful. - I've tried altering the set-up (through 192.168.1.1) of the router and rebooting it; this didn't work. - And I e-mailed Dynamode last night asking for help; there hasn't been a response yet. I wouldn't have made this thread if I didn't have anywhere else to turn to. So... any ideas? Many thanks in advance. And if someone does manage to fix my problem I think some porn may be in order as my gratitude. (I'm kidding) Or am I? Oh and if anyone else has router problems feel free to use this thread.
Tellyn Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Sorry McMad, I had this problem last year and had to replace the router. I don't know what causes the problem, but the router just buggered up and wouldn't allow a connection. See if you can take it back to the store, I did that and got a different model.
Nintenchris Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I was gonna say it sounds like its busted.. because you must be pretty sure that no one has changed any settings on it before it stopped working properly right? because if they havent then surely its broke?
Tellyn Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Actually Chris brings up a good point. Check the settings first and make sure everything's okay, though I presume you've done this already.
Rummy Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Is there a way to hard reset it? Basically something that resets it back to how it was when you first got it? Probably by pressing and holding in the reset button for 30seconds(or so is the case on my dlink di-524). I had to hard reset mine the other day after changing the pass then forgetting it lol. Of course, all routers are different and this might do something else to yours. I know with my router there's a thing you can do that makes it require a software install before working. In fact, it'd probably be best to get a firmware file just in case before doing anything, in the event that it can be totally wiped.

Cheers Tellyn, at least this gives me some direction in solving the problem now. Hmm, since it's a year old and I got it from NTL before they became a part of Virgin Media I'm not sure they'll be willing to replace it. EDIT: I think Tellyn deserves some porn now...
nightwolf Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I've had continuous problems with my router though unfortunetly it's with sky >_>, everytime something like this occurs I've had to do a reset back to my original settings, or set it so I have to have new codes for everything. I have to agree that you should take it back and get a better model, more trouble than it's worth! ps. I cannot wait to be back to wired, I hate wireless!

Then they will probably replace it and send some flowers to your door.

Yeah i forgot about that.... virgin media will go to the end of the earth and back for you if you tell them your leaving... my dads had a few phone bills wiped clean that way :awesome:

Yeah i forgot about that.... virgin media will go to the end of the earth and back for you if you tell them your leaving... my dads had a few phone bills wiped clean that way :awesome: That's always an alternative. We got a few months of broadband free, a V+ box and a massive discount on our total bill when we threatened to leave for Sky early last year when that whole debacle with the Sky channels was going on.
nightwolf Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Pssh there's better people to go to than sky frankly.
Platty Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Pssh there's better people to go to than sky frankly. Yes like 02/Be
Rummy Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Dunno if you're still searching for solutions to the problem McMad, or found any, but what settings did you change from default on the router? Also, is it a problem just with wireless, or with wired in computers too?
McMad Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 So does anyone want to recommend me a good new wireless router (that will work with Virgin) for under £40?
Tellyn Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 When mine broke, I bought this one. If you search around you should find it a lot cheaper, I think mine was £30.

Caris Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Just get a Netgear one for around £40. Can't go wrong really.
