Tiny Angels Watching Over Wii

A South American phenomenon is on its way to Nintendo's latest.

by Daemon Hatfield

February 11, 2008 - Portuguese multimedia developer Biodroid is working on a videogame adaptation of one of South America's most popular TV shows: Chiquititas (Tiny Angels). The title will be powered by Emergent's Gamebryo engine, the same motor powering Civilization IV and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

"The strength and diversity of the Chiquititas brand is a natural fit for Wii," said Bruno Patatas, Co-Founder of, Biodroid Productions. "Fans of action adventure are certain to embrace this future addition to the Chiquititas universe."

The game will be a platformer with puzzle elements. The developer says it is incorporating the "optimistic plotline, lively music, and colorful video from the original television series."

My god, we may rule at almost everything, but i found something where we suck... doing good videogames :P

.......Yeah.......Right..........

I think I prefer one of them Portuguese Flash games...

Speaking of Portuguese games, what happened with Ugo Volt? Did it get cancelled or something?

They are only 4 producers, Jonnas, problably it will take more 2 years X_X

About Bruno Patatas, that guy made a huge controversy here in Portugal, don't know if both of you know about the infamous "Pixbox case" (Something like that)

Nope, it's still in production. It actually looks interesting. They went to my uni two years ago showed some cool stuff

How the hell did they afford that engine?

Who knows, but you gotta speculate to accumulate.

Maybe they realise that if they make a good game then it has a better chance of earning them back some money... :indeed:

Yeah, but a good engine doesn't necessarily mean a good game.

Aren't those the same guys who were making Ugo Volt? Jeez, as if the "Floribella" game wasn't enough! (seriously, non-portuguese guys, you do not want to know what we're talking about lol)

Gamebryo is a series of engines. This can't be the one used in Oblivion...

It should help them though, it'd save them making everything from the ground up surely? And they need all the help they can get, I have never seen nor heard of Chiquititas before now.

Chiquitita is like the diminutive for small girl in Spanish though, right?

Yup.

I think one (possibly good) Portuguese game that got under the radar is Toy Shop for the DS. Anyone know if the got to release it?

Yeah, it started out as a South American show and portuguese channel SIC made a portuguese adaptation of it, while keeping the spanish name.

But it's still a show directed at little girls. I wonder why they're doing such a game.

But it's good to know Ugo Volt is still in production. They're not rushing it, so that's a good sign.

The story of Chiquititas here in Portugal is simple:

There was a show of sucess named Floribela about a little girl who wanted to marry somebody and had the ability to sing well, and things like that (you're luck of having britcom and good series, we have "telenovelas" X_X), but then the show falled, so they made the Chiquititas, its even worst than Floribela.

Now, why the hell would they use a good motor for a simple game like "Chiquititas"? What the...

I bet they can use the motor to more games without this one, right? If not, they're stupid X_X

Soap Operas for those who don't know the term.

Probably the worst part of being Portuguese: Our national fiction sucks (save for one show, "Conta-me Como Foi")

On the other hand, we have Gato Fedorento, which is usually good.

Hell yeah, i love "conta-me como foi" too

SOAP Operas? That's a cool name, Telenovelas sucks, so i will be saying telenovelas :P

But we're going off topic lol

Very offtopic lol

I didn't play Floribella, but it had a very Pandemonium vibe to it. Still, it's nice to see portuguese devs doing games on an international scale.

Zelda Killerrrrrr! with lolitas.

Still... I think it fits as good on the Wii as it fits in the PS2 (although it's good that it's not a PS2 port, if it's a bad game at least it's a bad wii game; or something)

still, and if they're the Ugo Volt developer... well... I'd like Ugo Volt Wii ten times better than this; but their target public clearly are not us with this one (Ugo Volt would)

I still wish them luck though, if anything for being a small portuguese studio.

Biodroid is the company of Bruno Patatas, the responsible for the infamous "Pixbox" case, and then there's Move Interactive: The same guys who made Floribela and are making Ugo Volt ;)

What the...There was actually a Floribella game? O país tá doido! :heh:

Although I can see how it could look like Pandemonium. Everything related is bizarre and disturbing. :heh:
