Falcon_BlizZACK Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Couldn't really get an answer before but I need to know now. Would the 360 accept any old usb wireless network adaptor apart from the official one? So would one of these work? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Browse/catalogId/1500000701/identifier/8963221.htm Help much appreciated, help me and a new LIVE player will arise.
Aimless Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 You can't use any wireless adapter, but you do have cheaper alternatives to the official offering. I'm afraid I don't know that much as I use Microsoft's product for the lack of hassle/form factor, but I think the rule of thumb is that any third-party USB device is a no go, but wireless bridges that connect through the Ethernet port should be all right. USB devices can't be used as they aren't able to install drivers on the 360; the official adapter is supported out of the box. Anything using an Ethernet connection is standards based and has no need for installation. For specific model suggestions you'll have to wait for someone else's contribution as I don't have a clue.
Wesley Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 I tried using my Mac to a BTHomeHub and got strict NAT. I then tried getting a NetGear to port forward to my BTHomeHub but it wouldn't act as a relay for the life of me. I gave up and bought the official Wireless Adapter. Therefore, I advise that you do the same to avoid complications and possibilities of it not working all together! EDIT: Unless you know someone who has the same thing that works.
Nintenchris Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 You could use your laptop as an Xbox 360 "wireless adapter" if you have a laptop that is http://lifehacker.com/340158/use-your-laptop-as-a-free-xbox-wi+fi-adapter says how to there ^ ^ ^
RoadKill Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 You can use any wireless adapter that has an ethernet port, not USB
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Thank you people, much appreciated. I may just end up getting the official one then or try CEX for a preowned one. But I'll look for some ethernet only ones as Roadkill suggested.
Shorty Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Is it possible for you to do what I do, put your 360 near your wireless router and plug it in to the router by ethernet cable? Will save you time and money.
