Caris Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 That could be for 20 years for all we know. Bungie have said there main platform for making games is still gonna be the 360 and MGS for publishing. Honestly this isn't a big deal at all. Worst case for Xbox owners is that the PS3/Wii gets Oni 2.
Ramar Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I wonder what's in this for Microsoft. It's not happening, but this leaves open a possibility for Sony or Nintendo to actually buy Bungie, and the Halo franchise. Even so, there's nothing restricting Bungie to publish Halo on other platforms when their exclusivity contract with Microsoft expires. Erm.. Microsoft own the rights to Halo.
Dilli Gee Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Evident by how Halo Wars is being developed by Ensemble Studios, and not Bungie.

EDIT: Never mind, didn't realise there was another page lol I really do question the value of Bungie tbh. Sure, they make good games but without Halo are they really worth the high dev costs? They're next project could well be a very expensive flop...
Choze Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I guess there is no discounting the support Halo got. Fps console games sell well generally with abit of support(Turok sold millions on N64). I think fps gamers on consoles have lower standards too. However many point out that the marketing machine behind Halo is one of the biggest for any game ever. No other game gets that priveldge. Not even World of Warcraft. Honestly this isn't a big deal at all. Worst case for Xbox owners is that the PS3/Wii gets Oni 2. Thats like saying EAD will give Yoshi. Either way its a huge step back for MS. In the short term its no different but In the future it can mean many things as Bungie are saying in interviews. Losing a first party is strange. A first party turning to 3rd party is pretty bad.
DCK Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Alright then, I thought Bungie owned Halo, and then it would have been blatantly stupid. This is better for Microsoft too, then.
darkjak Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Microsoft have the rights to Halo, don't they? Are you sure that MS own the HALO rights? The original Halo was originally a MAC game, then moved to the PC... Halo had been in development for a REALLY long time. I've seen a tech demo from like 1997 on gametrailers, and I have an old game magazine from like 1999, when the DC was released, with some near finnished looking screenshots, where the writers complained that the game allready back then had been delayed for ages... Anyways, I hope that Bungie will try to make some game for the Wii. Halo DS would be nice as well...
Calza Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Yes Microsoft do own the rights to Halo. They bought it.
Wesley Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Yes but what darkjak is trying to say is... are you sure? lol
Choze Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 With so many defections from MS it almost reminds us of the Dreamcast when SEGA went 3rd party. Now Bioware are owned by EA.
