ReZourceman Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Haha, fair enough, I just wanted to back up what I said earlier because you questioned it.
Happenstance Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I need another new series to start reading. I miss the feeling of reading trades for the first time, these days its all re-reading them since I already read the singles.
gmac Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Secret Six by Gail Simone was DC's best comic in my humble opinion
Happenstance Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I think I've tried that and thought it was ok but not really my thing. Is it the one with Catman?
gmac Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 yeah, Catman, Bane, Deadshot, Ragdoll, Scandal Savage and Banshee are the main six with other minor villains showing up throughout the run.
Happenstance Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I can never really get into villian books, it's the same thing with Thunderbolts.
gmac Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 How about Planetary by Warren Ellis and John Cassaday then? only 4 trades another really good book, this one is sort of a team book with nods to both Marvel and DC and other popular fiction throughout
Happenstance Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 It's one I should probably look into again but I've got a feeling I've checked out the first issue before.
gmac Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Hmm, what about Locke & Key or Fables? or Rucka and JH William III's Batwoman: Elegy or Criminal by Brubaker and Phillips (Crime Noir books with overlapping stories)
Paj! Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Animal Man by Grant Morrison. It's brilliant. Clean, concise superhero storytelling that (eventually) gives way to the Morrison-ness that of course lies within. But at a 'tolerable' level (this is no Final Crisis). READ IT NOW.
ReZourceman Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Scalped by Jason Aaron is insanely good with flawless dialogue and an immersive and believable setting. Highly recommend that plus its about to finish.
Happenstance Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 So whats Planetary actually about then? Also, is this the first trade? Got a bit confusing looking through Amazon with reprints etc. http://www.reedcomics.com/planetary-volume-over-world-other-stories-p-39251.html Also, anyone ever read the Grimm Fairy Tales books? Theyre ones I always see pop up. Ended up going with Artifacts Vol.1, keep hearing good things about it.
ReZourceman Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Did anyone read The Infinite? I enjoyed it. It was good/okay, for a first issue, I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes. Liefelds artwork was pretty much fine for the most part, although the guns in the first few pages did change design about five times between panels in a guys hands its....kind of hammy. Like a slanted back, then no sights, then straight and no grip, etc. Lolz.
gmac Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 yeah I've read it, was pretty enjoyable, the only issue I had with the art was the constant grimacing
Paj! Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 (edited) Also, anyone ever read the Grimm Fairy Tales books? Theyre ones I always see pop up. Judging a book by its cover, but every cover I've seen of those comics just makes it look absolutely dreadful. The sort of stuff that gives comic readers a bad name. The absolute nadir. Edited August 14, 2011 by Paj!
Happenstance Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Yes thankyou, I do know what the covers look like
Paj! Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Yes thankyou, I do know what the covers look like You're so unnecessary sometimes.
Dan_Dare Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Really good lineup. No Thor makes me sadface - though I gather he's due for not inconsiderable changes post Fear Itself. Ms Marvel, Black Panther and The Vision, on the other hand, gives me massive wood. I'd have preferred Rulk to stay and Wolverine to go, though.
Daft Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 So I'm picking up, BATMAN #1 BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT #1 GREEN LANTERN #1 BATMAN AND ROBIN #1 SUPERBOY #1 DETECTIVE COMICS #1 ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN #1 FLASH #1 JUSTICE LEAGUE #1 I kind of feel like I want to get more...but I'm not sure how many I want the next month. I doubt I'll keep getting all the Batman books. Definitely Superman, Action, JL, Batman and Flash. (Might get Superboy depending on whether I like his new costume...which I probably won't since I think his old t-shirt and jeans costume was stunning.) Any recommendations?
ReZourceman Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 That you catch up on Invincible. Red Lantern Corps could be interesting, but I think you've got the most important ones there. I'm GLing (all), Batman (Capullo/my first Snyder*), Justice League, Action and blogosphere. *I wanted Severed by Image.....its already £6. :/ Second printing or trade wait.
Paj! Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I'm gonna get Justice League Action Comics Batgirl Animal Man Wonder Woman And thinking about Catwoman, Batman, Batwoman (since it looks stunn) and Supergirl.
Daft Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Slick. I will eventually read Invincible. Will Batman and Superman team up in their own movie? As one commenter put it; it's the movie we deserve, but not the one we need right now. Are they making a Flash movie?
Happenstance Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Of course at this point its hard to give suggestions but id say maybe give Batgirl and Nightwing a try. Also Teen Titans is one of the biggest effected books by the relaunch so it should be interesting. Plus it has a former Robin and Superboy so its at least linked to your other comic interests.
Daft Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I was tempted by Nightwing and Teen Titans. May add them. Cheers.
Happenstance Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Ive got these preordered anyway: Batman Batman & Robin Detective Comics Nightwing Batgirl Superman Action Comics Superboy Supergirl Justice League Justice League International Wonder Woman Aquaman Teen Titans Green Arrow Green Lantern Green Lantern New Guardians The Flash Blue Beetle DC Universe Presents
