Ok, so I'm browsing around and see a DivX DVD player for like less than £20 and think 'thats pretty sweet', but then when I thought about things a bit more, I came to the conclusion that I don't really know whats the difference between a regular DVD player and a DivX DVD player. Now, maybe it's just me thinking it's too obvious, but what IS the difference between the two? Anyone have one? Can it play like files straight off a disc, without needing to be written like a DVD?

(also, my other thread can be closed now)

DivX DVD players can play DivX straight from a DVD disk. Some of them have a card reader or USB port too for playing DivX encoded files (highly recomended, will save you a lot of money in disks)

So I could just whack a DivX file onto a disc and it'd play it, no need to burn it as a DVD? That's pretty awesome if it can, especially with the card reader extension! Thanks for the info!

my 360 doesn't play divx.

do not get a cheap divx dvd player. I bought a cheap one and it's very picky over what divx files it plays. I would whole heartedly reconmend getting one though, it's very convenient and it works well.

Ahhh ok, thanks! I was only gonna get one because it was cheap, I don't really need it, and I'm gonna look at a way to hook my laptop upto a TV anyway when I get it, for such situations. I guess I'll not bother with the DVD player anymore, though if anyone is interested, there's one for like £20 over on ebuyer.

I have a Recorder with DivX and it played Xvid as well (I think but I'm unable to check as I'm only home during weekends).
