Rummy Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Ok, so I'm browsing around and see a DivX DVD player for like less than £20 and think 'thats pretty sweet', but then when I thought about things a bit more, I came to the conclusion that I don't really know whats the difference between a regular DVD player and a DivX DVD player. Now, maybe it's just me thinking it's too obvious, but what IS the difference between the two? Anyone have one? Can it play like files straight off a disc, without needing to be written like a DVD? (also, my other thread can be closed now)
McPhee Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 DivX DVD players can play DivX straight from a DVD disk. Some of them have a card reader or USB port too for playing DivX encoded files (highly recomended, will save you a lot of money in disks)
Rummy Posted May 26, 2007 Author Posted May 26, 2007 So I could just whack a DivX file onto a disc and it'd play it, no need to burn it as a DVD? That's pretty awesome if it can, especially with the card reader extension! Thanks for the info!
Tom Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 my 360 doesn't play divx. do not get a cheap divx dvd player. I bought a cheap one and it's very picky over what divx files it plays. I would whole heartedly reconmend getting one though, it's very convenient and it works well.
Rummy Posted May 28, 2007 Author Posted May 28, 2007 Ahhh ok, thanks! I was only gonna get one because it was cheap, I don't really need it, and I'm gonna look at a way to hook my laptop upto a TV anyway when I get it, for such situations. I guess I'll not bother with the DVD player anymore, though if anyone is interested, there's one for like £20 over on ebuyer.
