Lyrics Of The Day

Recommended Posts

Tori Amos can go suck my balls, I can't stand anything I've ever heard of hers, and as my ex loved her I have heard far too much. I'll never forgive her for what she did to Slayer.

*groans*

Oh please. She made the song her own, to great effect. It's actually haunting and creepy. Not putting down the Slayer version (can't compare them), which is great at what it is.

To be honest, her version actually highlights the lyics, which I quite like, considering it's a heavy metal song (i.e = usually atrocious lyrics).

I don't understand why people complain about cover versions being too similar, but then also complain when they aren't sound-a-likes.

EDIT: Plus most of her lyrics are just incredible, and actually require thought and understanding. I like things that require interpretation.

I find with artists like Tori Amos people use lyrics as a defense. Arguing that deep and meaningful lyrics make it a better song. If I had written the best song in the world and conveyed a message as my own experiences and then later admitted it was made up would that make it a bad

song?

You say metal songs usually have atrocious lyrics but thats because they are much more straight forward when compared to someone like Tori Amos i.e. hell, blood, the devil, dark imagery etc. It doesn't mean that if they aren't meaningful and personal they are worse lyrics, because it doesn't suit the style of music. As a fan of metal and in this case Slayer I want and expect this and the simple aggressive vocals are just an additional layer to the song. It shouldn't be seperated and analysed as Tori Amos did in the cover. "She made it her own", she removed a section of the song and warped it and this is seen as interesting why? It's hardly a cover, it's a more acceptable form of plagiarism.

i'm happy for lyrics to be open to interpretation but I can't see whats wrong with it being handed to you on a plate once in a while. Why should a thing of beauty have to have meaning? It's so self-indulgent to pedastalise your music taste because you have to think into it. I like it when people sing about Hell. And Blood. It fucking rocks.

I'm not opposed to normal lyrcis, I just dislike the fact that Metal lyrics often are shoehorned into one type, but as you say it fits.

Beauty doesn't have to have meaning, per se, I love a tonne of music that's either virtually intsrumental, or in other languages/made-up languages, etc.

I just like "thinking into songs", it makes the experience more engaging and interesting. However, I couldn't be arsed doing that with every song ( no one could).

I justlike when it feels that someone's true feeling and essence are put down lyrically, and I think Tori Amos does/has done that in many of her songs.

[/is over it, though it still perturbed by how her Raining Blood is pointlessly hated]

-------

Devils and Gods now that's an idea

But if we believe that its They who decide

That's the ultimate detractor of crimes

'cause Devils and Gods

They are You and I

Devils and Gods

They are You and I

Devils and Gods

Safe and Inside.

Probs bluntest lyrics I've heard from a woman in a long time!

Every time I see your face

I get all wet between my legs

Every time you pass me by

I heave a sigh of pain

Every time I see your face

I think of things unpure unchaste

I want to fuck you like a dog

Ill take you home and make you like it

Everything you ever wanted

Everything you ever thought of is

Everything Ill do to you Ill fuck you and your minions too

Your face reminds me of a flower

Kind of like youre underwater

Hairs too long and in your eyes

Your lips- a perfect suck me size

You act like youre fourteen years old

Everything you say is so

Obnoxious, funny, rude and mean

I want to be your blowjob queen

Youre probably shy and introspective

Thats not part of my objective

I just want your fresh young jimmy

Jamming slamming ramming in me

Every time I see your face

I think of things unpure unchaste

I want to fuck you like a dog Ill take you home and make you like it

Everything you ever wanted

Everything you ever thought of is

Everything Ill do to you

Ill fuck you til your dick is blue

Sébastien Tellier - L'Amour et la Violence

Tell me what do you think,

About my life,

About my childhood.

Tell me what do you think.

I love it too,

The love and the violence.

---

The song is actually in French:

Dis-moi ce que tu penses.

De ma vie,

De mon adolescence.

Dis-moi ce que tu penses.

Moi j'aime aussi,

l'amour et la violence.

---

I love this song. It's soothing.

I can't wait to see him in January. Everyone should listen to his album 'Sexuality', it is brilliant.

The Stranglers - Golden Brown

Golden brown texture like sun

Lays me down with my mind she runs

Throughout the night

No need to fight

Never a frown with golden brown

Every time just like the last

On her ship tied to the mast

To distant lands

Takes both my hands

Never a frown with golden brown

Golden brown finer temptress

Through the ages she's heading west

From far away

Stays for a day

Never a frown with golden brown

Never a frown

With golden brown

Never a frown

With golden brown

Communication

For twenty seven years I’ve been trying

To believe and confide in

Different people I found...

Some of them got closer than others,

And some wouldn’t even bother,

And then you came around.

I didn’t really know what to call you,

You didn’t know me at all,

But I was happy to explain.

I never really knew how I’d move you,

So I tried to intrude through

The little holes in your veins.

And I saw you.

But that’s not an invitation,

That’s all I get,

If this is communication,

I disconnect...

I’ve seen you, I know you,

But I don’t know how to connect,

So I disconnect...

You always seem to know where to find me,

And I’m still here behind you,

In the corner of your eye.

I never really learnt how to love you,

But I know that I love you,

Through the hole in the sky,

Where I see you

And that’s not an invitation,

That’s all I get.

If this is communication,

I disconnect...

I’ve seen you, I know you,

But I don’t know how to connect,

So I disconnect...

Well, this is an invitation,

It’s not a threat,

If you want communication,

That’s what you get.

I’m talking and talking,

But I don’t know how to connect.

And I hold... a record for being patient

With your kind of hesitation.

I need you, you want me,

But I don’t know how to connect,

So I disconnect,

I disconnect...

The Cardigans are definitely one of the most underrated bands of all time. I think they are brilliant. I consider them and Daft Punk my two long standing bands and if you know me even slightly, putting anything in the same sentence as Daft Punk is high and mighty praise.

I love this song. Check out the acoustic video just above. :D

I bought their Greatest Hits, which came out earlier this year. Not that much of a fan of the early stuff, but they're definitely cool.

I like Communication, but I prefer Don't Blame Your Daughter (Diamonds), I Need Some Fine Wine, And You, You Need To Be Nicer (whew!) and You're The Storm.

----

One of my favourite songs lyrically is The Couch by Alanis Morissette. She shifts between characters (IMO), leaving you to work out who she's voicing.

-----

You hadnt seen your father in such a long time.

He died in the arms of his lover.

How dare he?

Your mother never left the house.

She never married anyone else,

You took it upon yourself to console her.

You reminded her so much of your father,

So you were banished

And you wonder why youre so hypersensitive...?

And why you cant trust anyone but us.

But then how can I begin to forgive her?

So many years under bridges with dirty water.

She was foolish and selfish and cowardly if you ask me.

I dont know where to begin in all my 50 odd years.

I have been silently suffering and adapting, perpetuating, and enduring.

(Who are you younger generation to tell me that I have unresolved problems? )

Not many examples of fruits of this type of excruciating labor.

How can you just throw words around like grieve and heal and mourn?

I feel fine, we may not have been born as awake as you were.

It was much harder in those days, we had paper routes uphill both ways.

We went from school to a job to wife to instant parenthood.

------

I walked into his office, I felt so self-conscious on the couch.

He was sitting down across from me, he was writing down his hypothesis.

I dont know....

Ive got a loving supportive wife who doesnt know how involved she should

Get.

You say his interjecting was him just calling me on my shit?

Just the other day, my sweet daughter, I was driving past 203.

I walked up the stairs in my minds eye.

I remember how they would creak loudly.

She was only responsive with a drink,

He was only responsive by photo.

I was only trying to be the best big brother I could.

Ive walked sometimes confused sometimes ready to crack open wide.

Sometimes indignant, sometimes raw.

Can you imagine I pay him 75 dollars an hour sometimes?

It feels like highway robbery.

And sometimes its peanuts.

I wish it could last a couple more hours.

So here we both are battling similar demons (not coincidentally)

You see in getting beyond knowing it slowly intellectually,

Youre not relinquishing your majesty.

You are wise, you are warm, you are courageous, you are big.

And I love you more now than I ever have in my whole life.

I see it as the person seeing the therapist/doctor talking to the loved one, the person talking to the therapist/doctor, and then the therapist/doctor themselves.

I only like a couple songs before Gran Turismo but that album, which I think is their best, and every one since I absolutely love.

I really like their slower songs like Higher and the acoustic versions of their tracks are just awesome.

Embrace

Natures Law

I tried to fight the feeling, the feeling took me down,

I struggled and I lost the day you knocked me out,

Now everything’s got meaning and meanings bring me down,

I’m watching as a screening of my life plays out.

Every day I fight these feelings,

For your sake I will hide the real thing,

You can run all your life, all mine I will chase...

You should never fight your feelings,

When your very bones believe them,

You should never fight your feelings,

You have to follow nature’s law.

I’ll live with never knowing, if knowing’s gonna change,

I’ll stop the feeling growing, I will stay away,

Like a broken record stuck before a song,

A million beginnings, none of them the one.

Every day I fight these feelings,

For your sake I will hide the real thing,

You can run all your life, all mine I will chase...

You should never fight your feelings,

When your very bones believe them,

You should never fight your feelings,

You have to follow nature’s law.

I wrote her letters and tried to send them,

In a bottle I placed my hope,

An SOS full of good intentions

sinking, will you give it to me,don’t make me wait,

You build me up, knocked me down,

But I will stand my ground,

And guide this light that I’ve found.

You should never fight your feelings,

When your very bones believe them,

If you let them show, you’ll keep them

I know you hurt, but soon you'll rise again, again, again....

You should never fight your feelings,

When your very bones believe them,

You should never fight your feelings,

You have to follow nature’s law.

Dandy Livingstone - A Message To You, Rudy

As made famous by The Specials

Stop your messing around (ah-ah-ah)

Better think of your future (ah-ah-ah)

Time you straighten right out (ah-ah-ah)

Creating problems in town (ah-ah-ah)

Rudy

A message to you, Rudy

A message to you

Stop your fooling around (ah-ah-ah)

Time you straighten right out (ah-ah-ah)

Better think of your future (ah-ah-ah)

Else you'll wind up in jail (ah-ah-ah)

Rudy

A message to you, Rudy

A message to you

Stop your messing around (ah-ah-ah)

Better think of your future (ah-ah-ah)

Time you straighten right out (ah-ah-ah)

Creating problems in town (ah-ah-ah)

Rudy

A message to you, Rudy

A message to you, Rudy

Oh, it's a message to you, Rudy

Yeah, it's a message to you, Rudy

Nice message, but the lyrics are pretty bland, to be honest. I can think of much better lyrics to songs with the same message.

Phonography - Britney Spears

And I make no apologies, (Huh-huh)

I'm into phonography (Huh-huh)

And I like my bluetooth,

Buttons comin' loose (Loose)

I need my hands free, (Huh-huh)

Then I let my mind roam (Huh)

Playin' with my ringtone

He got service, I got service

Baby we can talk all night

Go!

[robot voice]Let's talk about biology,

Make believe you're next to me

Phonography, phonography

Talk that sexy talk to me

Better make sure that the line is free

Keep it confidential, you and me

Phonography, phonography

Dirty talking, call it phonography! [/robot voice]

I've been trying to show you over and over...

Look at these my child-bearing hips

Look at these my ruby red, ruby lips

Look at these my work strong arms

and

You've gotta see my bottle full of charm.

I lay it all at your feet,

You turn around and say back to me,

He said

Sheela-na-gig, Sheela-na-gig

You exhibitionist!

The Format - A Save Situation

It feels like you've been asleep for days

the television is on

I cant stay awake

I'll fall down,

again

And when your friends leave,

oh they get gone

its such a pet peeve when you prove me wrong

I'll fall down

and we all fall down

I need to get back to Tempe,

its been two years since i've been here before

back down to the streets that lead me

the ones that keep me,

away from Glendale

O-o-open your eyes and let me in

I swore to god i'd never swear again

and we all fall down

yeah we all fall down again

I also love how that is the last song of their first album and the first lines on the second album are "Ashes to ashes". Win!

Splender - I think God can explain

Theres a lot of things I understand,

And theres a lot of things,

That I dont want to know.

But youre the only face,

I recognize, its so damn sweet of you,

To look me in the eyes.

Its all right, Im o.k.,

I think God can explain,

I believe Im the same,

I get carried away

Its alright, Im o.k.,

I think God can explain

Im relieved, Im relaxed,

Ill get over it yet,

The scent of vaseline,

In the summertime,

The feel of an ice cube,

Melting over time,

The world seems bigger than both of us,

Yet it seems so small,

When I begin to cry.

Its all right, Im o.k.,

I think God can explain,

I believe Im the same,

I get carried away

Its alright, Im o.k.,

I think God can explain

Im relieved, Im relaxed,

Ill get over it yet,

Im so much better than you guessed,

Im so much bigger than you guessed,

Im so much brighter than you guessed.

Its all right, Im o.k.,

I think God can explain,

I believe Im the same,

I get carried away

Its alright, Im o.k.,

I think God can explain

Im relieved, Im relaxed,

Ill get over it yet,

Ill get off of your back,

I think God can explain.

I think God can explain.

I think God can explain.

Great Divide

There's a monster growing in our heads,

Raised up on the wicked things we've said.

A great divide between us now,

Something we should know.

There's something to remember,

And something to forget.

As long as we remember,

There's something to regret,

Something we should know.

There's a mountain higher than we knew,

It's high but such a bitter view.

A great divide between us now,

Something we should know.

A great divide between us now,

On different sides of a great divide.

A little bit apt (snow etc) but also this song means alot to me, it was a ''our song'', shhh :heh:

Arcade Fire- Neighbourhood #1 Tunnels

And if the snow buries my,

my neighborhood.

And if my parents are crying

then I'll dig a tunnel

from my window to yours,

yeah a tunnel from my window to yours.

You climb out the chimney

and meet me in the middle,

the middle of town.

And since there's no one else around,

we let our hair grow long

and forget all we used to know,

then our skin gets thicker

from living out in the snow.

You change all the lead

sleepin' in my head,

as the day grows dim

I hear you sing a golden hymn.

Then we tried to name our babies,

but we forgot all the names that,

he names we used to know.

But sometimes,

we remember our bedrooms,

and our parent's bedrooms,

and the bedrooms of our friends.

Then we think of our parents,

well what ever happened to them?

You change all the lead

sleepin' in my head to gold,

as the day grows dim,

I hear you sing a golden hymn,

the song I've been trying to say.

Purify the colours, purify my mind.

Purify the colours, purify my mind,

and spread the ashes of the colours

over this heart of mine!

Have to agree with you on Tunnels. Funeral is a fantastic album. Not a bad song on there.

Speaking of which, I love the song Haiti.

Haïti, mon pays,

wounded mother I'll never see.

Ma famille set me free.

Throw my ashes into the sea.

Mes cousins jamais nés

hantent les nuits de Duvalier.

Rien n'arrete nos esprits.

Guns can't kill what soldiers can't see.

In the forest we lie hiding,

unmarked graves where flowers grow.

Hear the soldiers angry yelling,

in the river we will go.

Tous les morts-nés forment une armée,

soon we will reclaim the earth.

All the tears and all the bodies

bring about our second birth.

Haïti, never free,

n'aie pas peur de sonner l'alarme.

Tes enfants sont partis,

In those days their blood was still warm.

I have no idea what they're singing in French. Doesn't really matter, but it'll be good to know.

PJ Harvey & John Parish - Taut

Jesus save me

Jesus save me

Can I tell you something ?

Can I tell you a story ?

It's about me and Billy

'Cause I remember

I remember it all started when he bought that car

It was the first thing he'd ever owned apart from me

And the colour was red

And the colour was red and he drove me

He drove me out of my mind

I'm over it now

It was spring or summer sixty five I don't remember

Steaming and sweating and sticking against the wheel

And I could see the tendons stand out in the back of his neck

And he used to make me pray, wearing a mask like a death's head

When he put me there in the back seat, and he said

Jesus save me

Jesus save me

Inherited his father's hate that what he'd say

And he custom of destruct the pain of every escape but somehow

He could make joy come loose inside

I would feel really I would feel really and truly alive

And I would do anything for him

It just wasn't enough

It was never enough

He'd turn to me and say

He'd, he'd say "even the son of god had to die, my darling"

And he wanted everything

He wanted everything

He wanted the honey from the king

Each new moon

He used to make me pray

Every morning

Hidden in the backseat, such Jesus

He'd make me pray

And he'd in there when he wanted everything

He wanted the honey from the king

Say it

"Even the son of god had to die my darling"

Go on, say it!

Jesus save me

Jesus save me
