The4thChildren Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Picked this up earlier and had a few hours. It's pretty good so far with lovely visuals and interesting characters/character designs. The fact it does not have random battles is lovely and if I can tolerate the turn based stuff I think Blue Dragon and I will have a future together.
Guest Stefkov Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 I just got up to the Murals place. That place as so colourful it looked too good.

With a game as big as this random battles would be an absolute killer.I tanned that Dinosaur boss when I leveled a bit and i'm in that drill now. Also thatnks for the heads up H-o-T.
Hero-of-Time Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 So I was SP grinding til 2 in the morning and before I clocked off I decided to have a shot at one of the secret bosses [spoiler=]King Poo My team of 5, with level 99 Job Classes and mid 40 level was totally destroyed. I think I managed to get 5,000 HP off the boss but he has around 16,000. Some major levelling up is required methinks.
Guest Stefkov Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 So are all the achievements for killing those sorts of enemies on the third disk?
theguyfromspark Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 There's no way I'll be getting more than about 5 achievements in this game, they consume way too much time that could be better spend playing other games.I'll do my best to see the entire story but after that, it's gone.
Hero-of-Time Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 So are all the achievements for killing those sorts of enemies on the third disk? Yup There's no way I'll be getting more than about 5 achievements in this game, they consume way too much time that could be better spend playing other games.I'll do my best to see the entire story but after that, it's gone. I know what you mean but for me its what I have been after in ages as too many games now last around 12-15 hours and its just not long enough for me Everything else has been shelved until I beat this game.
The-Ironflame Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 I'm doing most of my levelling and ranking up in these sidequests even though I want to progress through the story. Doing any earlier would have been too easy. I found the scorpion bloody hard, beating him felt like a achievement itself. This one too, didn't realise I had to destory his helmet cos you do little damage to it, he kept on instant killing my party
Guest Stefkov Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 I'm at the part where you have to escort the carriages and I got so far. The 3 that attack you right before you push over the rock and two rats attack. I attacked the lion thing, then the two rats attacked the carriages. I was so pissed off. The sabertooth things, their bite just kills instantly which is irritating.
The-Ironflame Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 . I attacked the lion thing, then the two rats attacked the carriages. I was so pissed off. The sabertooth things, their bite just kills instantly which is irritating. There are ones just like that but even more powerful later
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Stef mate, you ever played Grandia? I really like Grandia II on the Dreamcast, and this looks similar, is it? The turn based fighting in that game was outstanding.
ShadowV7 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Grandia II was an amazing game.I didn't like the battling system at first when you only have 1 guy but then I loved it when I got more characters. Great game that.

Great game that. Yeah...In fact I would go as far to say that Final fantasy 10 re-worked a bit of Grandia's religious undertones. Ahhh, so sad that game didn't get the attention it deserved.
chrizkerr2 Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 /cheer, managed to get Wagon Escort: Perfect on my first go! Just meet Zola too "blushes"
Guest Stefkov Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 /cheer, managed to get Wagon Escort: Perfect on my first go! Just meet Zola too "blushes" Right near the end of the escort, a lion thing and two rats attack the wagons, how'd you do that bit? I attacked the lion but the rats attacked the wagons. I was so close to the end it was so annoying.

Have field barrier up, and if its the bit I think you mean, get in position so you can take out the Tiger as soon as it spawns, then go inbetween the caravans to take out the Rat Packs (They spawn to the left of each of the caravans).
Hero-of-Time Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 So after 75 hours playtime I finally fully finished the game. Thats all sidequests, all achievements, all secret bosses all characters fully levelled up. I have to say that despite not really bringing anything new to the genre this is one of the best RPGs that I have played in a while. It just has a certain charm to it and I found myself getting very addicted to the game. The last boss was a walkover as is usually the case in an RPG when you fully level up. The King Poo and Golden Mecha were alot harder but aslong as you have double-cast power then you can pretty much own them both. At least with this finished I can start playing something else now
ShadowV7 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Reckon you'll ever do a second play through in the future?
Hero-of-Time Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Reckon you'll ever do a second play through in the future? I dont think so. Its very rare that I play any RPGs or any games for that matter twice unless I have things to unlock. When playing a game I try to unlock everything and then finish it before shelving it and moving on to the next game.
theguyfromspark Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 How does it fare, story wise? Worth sticking with it to see what happens or is the story fairly predictable?
Hero-of-Time Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 How does it fare, story wise? Worth sticking with it to see what happens or is the story fairly predictable? The story is pretty generic although there is a nice little twist at the end boss fight which I didnt see coming
Guest Stefkov Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 This wagon escort will be the end of me. three times I've just tried it, I just figured out I have field barrier 1 with Jiro and Kluke, so I stuck it on Jiro and now I can use the barrier. I ran into a rat and it didnt work, then I ran into another one and it worked. But then another rat hit the wagons.
The-Ironflame Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 HoT do you know where the King poo and Golden Mecha is? Apparently they really tough. the Aurora Ruins and that tree on the island
Hero-of-Time Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 King Poo is in the cave that you start the game in but you have to beat 2 other Giant Poos before he appears. Golden Mecha appears in Ancient Factory near end of the game. Both are the hardest battles in the entire game.
