I just bought a DV cam.

But how teh hell do I transfer movies from the cam to the PC?

It looks like a need a DV card. Do I need to buy a TV card with a DV Inn or can I just buy any DV card.

If you have a firewire card you should be able to transfer the video fine. You just need to purchase a 6 pin to 4 pin Firewire lead, should only cost you about 10 euros.

What model camera is it?

You'll most probably need some software, the camera should've come with some simple capturing and editing software. If not then just search on Google for some free software if all you need to do is capture and cut. If you want to go the more professional route then you should procure a copy of Adobe Premiere. Nah, they don't register as files unless your camera uses a Hard Drive instead of MiniDV. As others have said you'll need a firewire cable (as long as your camera supports it - it should do) or alternatively, a USB 2 cable. If you've not got a firewire port on your comp then you need to get a firewire card.

You will need some sort of program to 'capture' the footage from your cam, onto the computer. I'm pretty sure things like windows movie maker will do this. As said before though depending what methods you get programs by, get Adobe Premiere or even better get Adobe Premiere Pro.

All you need to do with that is shove your camera to play mode, plug in the firewire cable at both sides, goto File then Capture in the Premiere menu and find the bits of footage you want to transfer. Line them up to be played and just click record on adobe.

Sometimes you might need to go into your cameras menu and select some kind of send through firewire or send through DV-out option before you'll see anything on your computer screen. Not all cams do it automagically.
