Once again wrong. NPD has shown that since last April, Wii has sold most 3rd party software including oh so vaunted X360. There are currently 35 3rd party million sellers. On typical month, only 25 percent of Wii's sales come from NPD TOP-20, while over 40 percent of X360 sales come from TOP-20. That is why you can't just watch charts, and make any assumptions about sales.

Because Other Consoles has pretty much degenerated into "Wii is our enemy! We are true hardcore gamerz" type train of thought, which is utterly retarded. And these assholes come to here complain. Perhaps you would find it funny that posters on this side would come to shit on other consoles section?
-
Yes he is. Having three word answers and calling others idiots isn't good way to discuss about anything.

Wrong. Majority of these losses were made before recession hit, and market is still growing 20 percent rate on this quarter, even with recession going on. To put it in simple terms, there is still no recession so far as consoles go. Of course, companies are blaming recession as it is easy thing to blame and makes you look good, but there is no single number supporting that it would be responsible for their problems.

So you think it is your divine right to come to shit on Wii threads? Holy shit, perhaps I should come to terrorize Other Consoles.

For several reasons: 1) Without new blood, this hobby dies. HD-generation has pretty much failed as excepted. Development costs have quadrupled in three years, but growth outside Wii / DS have been negative. Nearly all of Top-20 publishers are on the red, with three (Midway, THQ, Atlus) facing threat of bankcrupt this year. More than twenty prominent development studios have been closed thanks to failed projects. You can't get funding for risk projects, meaning more money for generic shooters and casualware. When market grows and is profitable, it can fund more risky, "artistic" projects. Everybody wins. 2) Public acceptance. Currently we have certain extreme circles proposing far more drastic censorship for videogames. As videogames gain more public acceptance, censorship demands start to look ridiculous. Furthermore, whole market can get respect it so craves. Once again, everybody wins. 3) Videogames need to mature up. Currently games are made by adolescent boys for adolescent boys. To truly achieve next level in design, market needs to mature and we must broaden our perspectives.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everybody has one, and everyone thinks that only others stink.

You know, there is very good reason why Mario Kart Wii clicks with expanded audience and is most popular game of this generation outside Wii Play. And that's motion controls. You know, you are exactly so sharp and subtle as sledge hammer. You have one extreme view, and don't want to even listen other views.

My opinion is that it isn't about how simple or physical it is, but how satisfying. Let's take DDR. Sure, you can play it d-pad. But do you really enjoy it? Let's play with legs, and suddenly everything is so much more satisfying. Physically motion and feeling it gives can be great tool for game, when used correctly. When used incorrectly, well, it sucks. It is always about balance.

At least I have a beard!

And here we have total douchebag and narrowminded graphics whore ruining whole discussion. Where in the hell you pounced anyway?

Well, at least you gave me solid answer, can't complain about that. I do appreciate all kinds of games, but like I said before, I think that for videogame be art, it must stop pretension of being something else, and embrace its own strong points. I'm not against having artistic ambitions, but I'm strongly against "cool kids" and cool, kewl = art thought process. Perhaps we should do another thread for the debate, as if we continue here, we are going to quickly threadcrap this thread.

If we are talking about movies, stuff like Elephant Man, All About Eve, Thin Red Line, Fight Club, Godfather, and heck, even Hero (although its artistic sensibilities come mostly from direction). I think that the problem that I have with videogames is that they try too much emulate other mediums without really succeeding in it. Artistic videogames are possible, but it requires that developers understand that they are not doing movie, or writing a book, but a videogame. Really hard to explain what I'm driving at.

Goldeneye did sell around 8 million, but rest of the games you mentioned certainly didn't break over two million. Twin Snakes certainly sold less than million.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Teppo Holmqvist replied to CoolFunkMan's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I'm not so sure about that. I mean, RE5 isn't by any stretch so good as RE4, and I don't really believe that it will be remember in same light as RE4 was. Downgrading already semi-meh game wouldn't certainly do any good.- 415 replies

And X360 and PS3 games are artistic? This is one my personal pet peeves about all videogames... [RANT-INCOMING] I find it always hilarious when kids come to explain me how stuf like Mass Effect, Halo, Okami, No More Heroes or Metal Gear* are "artistic" games. I guess if cardboard characters, aturday cartoon plots, and dialogue that would be laughed out from any other medium is artistic, yes, videogames are artistic masterpieces. I mean, seriously. I really believe that standards are detoriating as younger folk doesn't either read or watch anything else than gasoline-filled blockbuster movies. Even hollow philosophical waxing of Dark Knight was seen as intelligent and deep. [/RANT-INCOMING] * Excepts at least one angry Metal Gear fanboy come to tell me how I don't understand Kojima's masterpiece.

Indeed. Motion+ wasn't even financially possible on 2005's technology. Gyroscopes that Motion+ uses did cost up to 150 dollars per piece. We can thank InvenSense for great leap in the technology.

Yeah, imagine.

But then again, this is first time in 14 years that Nintendo's homeconsole will have full cycle.
-
As a outsider, it is obvious that X360 / PS3 users are minority here, but they are quite vocal about it. It doesn't help either that many of these users think that it is their divine right to come shit into Wii side, and think that freedom speech equals right to act like total douches. Of course it has gotten better after certain unnamed persons decided that they could have their own lovely xenophobic circle jerk at other consoles section.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles

Many of those screens are from pre-rendered cutscenes. Misleading marketing for the win.- 415 replies

Indeed. Let's take Excitebots as a example. Monster Games has been working on it for more than 24 months, and they even had engine / basic concept to recycle.

Actually they can, and this is how it has worked in the past for all winning consoles. The problem is that it is taken more than two years, over billion dollar in losses, and recession for 3rd parties to realize that Wii isn't fad and there is no great comeback for HD-consoles. Throwing money randonmly and bribing development to get exclusives is hardly innovative. It is archaic, expensive, and proven to have no effect on console performance, although butthurt fanboys want to think otherwise. They think that pissing 6 billion dollars a'la Sony into air is innovative and sustainable. That Nintendo has been able to create strategy where its competition doesn't practically matter, that is innovative. With few well placed maneuvers, they have turned market upside down, and made people who thought they knew the market look and act like fools. Nintendo's strategy is already used as a case in better universities, and it will be studied for years to come.

No idea, but at least it is maintained position 10 on UK charts for two weeks, and is currently at 24. So far as I remember, this is best chart positioning that lightgun game has had.

I'm pretty much sick that certain gamers tell how they represent whole gamerhood, and how games that the play are more precious than the games that others play. I hate how people think that they belong into some kind of cultivated intellectual elite because they play Halo 3 or Bioshock or whatever. Even worse is when same people think that they are actually better human beings thanks to this.
