Not so much a conspiracy theory so much as it is just common sense. Sony needs retailers to sell their games and hardware; retailers need to be able to make a margin on the games they sell (since they make next to no margin on the hardware). Therefore, Sony needs to ensure price parity with retail, or retailers will refuse to stock their hardware (why would retailers actively spite themselves and sell a piece of hardware that they end up just losing money on, without the ability to sell games to make up the margin? It's The Razor and Blades model without the Blades!) See the PSP Go and how it ended up having a great big whacking retailer margin bolted onto the price (making it way more expensive than any other PSP model).

It's not really a sequel, it's a tech demo playground; sort of like the Playstation VR Playroom. Neat that it gets bundled in for free though. Oh BTW, another "bold" prediction. Project Athia will also never actually see a release.
-
Well I guess that's sort of an exclusive? Really petty. But what else are they gonna do for content?
-
Also... calling it now. Pragmata will never see a release. It'll be Deep Down all over again.

Ahh, I thought I recognised the name Lucid Games; they're the ex Bizzare Creations folks! THAT's why the game looks so fun! Anyway, it was a strong show overall. But I did catch how most of the announcements were third party games that will not be exclusive... You aren't pulling the wool over my eyes Sony! I'm surprised that they're releasing Spiderman 2 this year; but I'm calling it now, this ain't a true PS5 exclusive. It's a cross-gen title (it's really obviously a PS4 port). The rest of their first party lineup (sans GT7 and Demons' Souls Remastered) aint coming out until 2022; the fact that they didn't even announce release years for them speaks volumes. The big shocker here is the Digital Only hardware model; NOBODY was expecting that one! Also, it looks like the form factor might actually be larger than the typical console form factor and more like the Series X after all (it's basically a mini PC tower). Wasn't expecting that... That might change things a bit... As far as the games themselves go? Destruction Allstars is the big standout for me. That looks really great! Looks like a ton of fun! I'm also very impressed by Rachet and Clank; they have actually designed it around the SSD storage for a legitimately cool looking gameplay gimmick! Very Nintendo-like! I like it very much! More of this and less of the CG cutscene bullshit please! RE8 also looks... very interesting! Gives me vibes of the legendary "Hookman" version of RE4; more Castlevania than Resident Evil! Will look forward to playing that on my PC/Series X! And that's really my big takeaway here. How much of this is actually going to be exclusive? Why should I buy a PS5 for these games specifically?
-
Oh snap!! They're releasing a digital only model!?
-
Bloody hell! Pragmata is from Capcom!? They're making something actually original!?!? Well blow me down!
-
Well now! RE8 looks... different to what I was expecting!
-
That music is gonna be stuck in my head alll bloody night long now...
-
Oh ok, Astrobot 2 is NOT a VR game? Edit: Ahh, it's a tech demo showcase thingy, not a real game.
-
Interesting that most of these games don't appear to be exclusives...
-
Hey! Superbrothers are making a new game! Cool!
-
Am I the only person who gets Bum Simulator vibes from Ghostwire Tokyo? It kinda comes across as a parody game to me lol!
-
Hey! They're finally making a new Oddworld game! Awesome! They've been teasing this for years now!
-
ME @ Goodbye Volcano High...
-
Agreed. Looks fun! Let's just hope it's not F2P now...
-
Ooh! Sumo Digital making a 3D Platformer LBP spinoff? I'm interested!
-
Indeed. They've done a great job with it!
-
Hey! Rachet & Clank looks like actual gameplay! Wasn't expecting that!
-
Hmm... Spiderman 2 not a PS5 exclusive? Is it even a bespoke PS5 version at all? Looks kinda like just the PS4 game running on PS5 via BC...
-
Not even coming out at launch? Doesn't bode well if they can't get a basic PS4 to PS5 port out by launch...
-
IT'S A BOX!!!!!!!!!! Edit: Oooohhhkkaaayyy.... PS4 footage for some reason? Playing up BC? Edit2: Ahh, GTA5 port.
-
Yeah... getting the Ludo medal is NOT fun... Fuck Ludo.
-
Well that confirms that they've already seen the video in advance... I bet DF already have a hardware breakdown video ready to go
-
I'd be very surprised if it wasn't. Bluepoint have been developing it ever since they released Shadow of the Colossus PS4 in February 2018. They've had plenty of time to work on this and even though they haven't had a lot of time to port it from PS4 to PS5; they're pretty efficient at what they do (plus at the end of the day, it's a remaster and not a new game). It should make the launch day date. I doubt that they'd let a mildly upgraded Bloodborne port stop them from releasing DS Remastered on launch day (Bloodborne itself will be used as an example of how the PS5 can be used to upgrade existing PS4 games for free anyway).
