Just finished the game. Great fun Any post-game or is that it? I can't see any at quick glance.

This week, in Japan Ponta (I don't know: http://www.ponta.jp/) Lawson (The retailer) Kirby Super Star Dot Series

Your assumption being that whatever Nintendo puts out, no matter how innovative, will have the "shine" taken because VR exists. You made that statement and I'm countering it because it's flawed, cynical and just not true.
-
You're making a hell of an assumption though. People said similar about Nintendo and being innovative before the Wii and look what happened there. To dismiss whatever Nintendo will do just because VR exists is very narrow minded.
-
A hybrid would end up either with a really expensive handheld or a really crap console, or both. That's why it won't happen. Plus, as it has been said, Iwata said it's not a hybrid.
-
Oculus was "miniscule" initially when they came forth with the idea.
-
That's a bit cynical. Surely Nintendo could do something new and innovative and it take the "shine" off of VR? It works both ways, my friend.
-
The most exciting things about VR are things unrelated to gaming. Problem is how anti-social it is though.
-
I think some games will be like that, based on what we've heard. Especially since they detailed using the cloud for saves. That said, not all games will be on both formats. I highly doubt that Pokémon would be on NX Console or a local multiplayer game like Mario Party NX would be on NX Handheld. Nintendo needs to be careful with this and find a balance. The reason their handhelds have persisted while others like Vita have collapsed is that Nintendo know games designed for handhelds sell handhelds. Vita went for making the console experience portable and that doesn't work and is a large part of why it didn't do well. If Nintendo go that route, they deserve to fail and that's also why a hybrid isn't logical.
-
It being a hybrid would be horrific and would do more damage. Besides, Nintendo already shot down it being a hybrid, comparing devices to how the iOS devices are in relation to eachother. Not a hybrid but brothers.

VR has some fantastic uses, and is fun to use (though when I did start feeling iffy after about half an hour when I tried it early last year...hopefully it has stabilised), but its gaming usage is fairly limited. It's limited to first person games else what's the point? And first person titles aren't all the industry has. It'll be a part of the future of gaming, without a single doubt (although not as soon as people think), but it most certainly won't be the future of gaming. The scope, while large, is limited.

The next costume is up

The rift is, yes, but you also need a decent PC to get good use out of it too, so add another £500-£1000 onto that. Edit: Whoops, already been brought up

I don't think that VR will be the golden goose you and others seem to think, especially considering the ridiculously high cost of entry. To be fair, The GCN controller ports on Wii were for backwards compatibility. The Wii U adapter was only added to the Wii U for Smash Bros. Wii U to appease the vocal hardcore fanbase. For controllers, Nintendo has their standard already. GamePad and Pro Controller are pretty much the same controller. Just because it's compatible with older controllers doesn't mean "Nintendo has too many", it means you can use whatever you have around and still have the whole experience, not necessarily having to shell out £200 every few years to get a full set again. I remember a lot of people saying that about stereoscopic 3D. Yergh, you sadist :p The PS4 controller has the most uncomfortable analogue stick placements in my opinion. They're so far from the edges of the controller it hurts my thumbs to use. Pro Controller has it perfect.

Just came out of the blue

Out of nowhere? It has been a part of the topic all day... And it does have the same impact, as evidenced by Nintendo's stuff setting worldwide trends, getting great exposure. Why are you so reluctant to see this?
-
It has shifted, yes, but it being a live conference makes no difference compared to a pre-recorded conference. A lot of Nintendo Directs had things available "now". You're missing the point entirely
-
Those reveals would have had the same media and consumer reaction if their E3 conference was pre-recorded. What we're saying is that the reveals get the same mass reaction pre-recorded or not. The actual conferences are for those who attend.
-
Maybe, but that could just be because more people are into Sony stuff right now Just because A=A does not mean A=B. The fact is that Nintendo Directs have far more reach and impact than you give them credit. Yes, you may not like them, yes you may prefer conferences but let's not ignore facts here.
-
Same with Directs
-
That's what I remember seeing when I watched Microsoft's last year and PSX last month wasn't that much more.

Well we need to get adjusted data but Nintendo Pre-E3 2012 Direct 1,036,851 viewsNintendo E3 2012 198,976 viewsNintendo Direct April 2013 331,621 viewsNintendo Direct November 2015 1,143,409 views
-
You're really downplaying the relevance and reach of Nintendo Directs. They get huge exposure Typically, the E3 conferences get around 1 million views on Youtube (Sony's: 844,501 views, though to be fair other places have reuploaded it themselves and get a good amount of views) after and around 100,000 watching live. Nintendo Directs have similar amounts (maybe less watching live) and look at views for the last Direct 1,143,409 ). Unfortunately I can't get the data on the Digital Event because Nintendo idiotically deleted it and reuploaded without the charity stuff. The reach is far more than you give it credit for. Also, Nintendo still attends things like E3, has conversations, press meetings etc. Stop downplaying what they actually do Again, Nintendo Directs have huge reach, the news from them are reported by the mass media (especially when hardware is included), they get people talking. They are no different to conferences except for the "atmosphere"
-
But the majority of the ambience, the cheering and whatnot, is piped through the sound. Every time there's a conference, you hear roaring applause and it cuts to the audience and there's one person clapping, barring huge announcements. It's false ambience. Except the fact that everything in Nintendo's Directs spreads around as much as everything in an E3 conference. They set worldwide Twitter trends, they get people talking, press cover it all. You're acting like Directs have no reach, no impact and that only conferences do when that's far from the truth. Maybe in yesteryear, sure, but this is 2016.
-
Nintendo's Directs are in one place and it gives lots of information in a very short time, all without conference. There's also a lot of expectations with Directs. It's all psychological. Prestige is irrelevant. I watch the things for information and details, not for prestige
