The whale sections are scripted events, so they'll be in "full 3D" in that the camera will show it from a perspective that looks that way. Nothing you control will be 3D. It's all on a 2D plane, but the modern Sonic sections just use more "dynamic" angles.

I have to say, thinking about it more, doing versions of the 3D game levels on the 3DS version is actually stupid. Why? Because the 3DS game only has 2D (I mean sidescrolling) levels for both its "classic" and "modern" modes. So the classic emerald coast will be sidescrolling instead of 3D like it originally was and the modern version will be sidescrolling as well...which makes no sense at all obviously. I know the next gen versions have the classic levels as sidescrolling even for the 3D levels, but at least then the modern ones are closer to how they originally played.
-
As far as I'm aware, there's no confirmation of that. There's a screenshot of Emerald Coast, but for all we know that's a minigame or something because so far, we dont have a single other screenshot (as far as I know) from levels from the 3D games.. There's still a chance that handheld levels are in I think, unless im out of date on news. EDIT: http://scene.sonicth.ru/eng/?p=55 Okay, so seconds after I posted that, I found out I am out of date. There are loads of screenshots now of Emerald Coast.

Yeah well and he should be able to fly but he cant. It's gimped, it's only really in to appeal to fans simply based on everyone wanting to see it return. I assume they went full Tanooki vs the other "raccoon Mario" because it's cuter.
-
It'd also be weird for absolutely all the game's media to conveniently miss out having partners in battle. :/ I get the feeling when he's being followed by other characters it's more of a temporary thing and they may just be random npc's.
-
Really? Fighting alongside Mario in battles? Can someone link?
-
I'm not sure if it's been confirmed or not, but at this point it looks natural to me to assume Mario is going solo in this title. I haven't seen a single piece of media with any partners. Well, nothing in combat anyway. To be honest I dont get the feeling it looks story heavy either...

^To be honest, no, I'd just rather they stopped delaying a game which felt like it was going to be a launch title.

I want an RE game that's RE4 like, but more about scenes like the Mansion DLC in RE5 (the best thing about that game) and some of the Castle and Lab parts of RE4 too (mainly the sewers area, the dog maze and the regenerators in the lab). Also, with ammo, yeah, far less. You need to feel under serious threat for survival horror to work. Having to conserve bullets of good weapons really helps that in the old games. Like, fuck, I only have a few shotgun shells left and the next room could have Hunters in it... I think the close combat being powerful is an issue too with many enemies. In the older games you really dont want to be near to zombies...unless they're on the ground ready to have their head stomped. For overall fear too, I'd really like no co-op, because to work storyline wise it means always have a partner, which just isn't scary. Survival horror games need moments of isolation, if not mostly isolation. Also for fear, more scripted moments that aren't done in cutscene form. For example, things breaking through walls without prior warning like Mr. X in the RE2 second scenarios, stuff like that. It may be a bit "cheap", but it keeps you on edge realising that anything could happen and nowhere is safe.
-
I played RE5 entirely in co-op and only once. I just felt like I was playing a Gears of War game or something, except nowhere near as well made. Perhaps not having played it singleplayer I somehow spoiled the experience, but I doubt it as I didn't like the enemy designs, locales or the story (which I think had a lot of potential and ballsed it up).

REmake perfected the old formula, it wasn't really going to work especially well going forward. It was time for change, the change worked well. It could still be scary too, like those invisible enemies (I forget their name, they were in that sewer prison area). It's just they seemed to sacrafice that mostly so that they could play up the action because it was pretty fun with the control scheme. I love classic RE, but I think RE4 was a great and necessary change...it's just a shame that I think they've only made it work as a game once so far (i.e., RE5 is shit).

Resident Evil 4 had chapters right? I didn't give a shit about them in that...although maybe I'm wrong.

^Think of it as a Nintendo take on survival horror. There's a mansion, you explore it and solve puzzles and the like to progress further and you have to figure out ways to find and catch ghosts. From my distant memories of the original, it's not immensly deep, no, but no more shallow than any typical Nintendo title.

Anyone else find the colour scheme for the ice areas absolutely hideous?

If you're talking about the Metroid Metal albums by Stemage, which are widely regarded as amazingly awesome, then your taste is highly questionable!

The logo is shit. I swear Nintendo must not actually pay a graphic design team, they just get a random team member to fire up a cracked copy of Photoshop 7.0 and fuck around.

Aliens: Infestation by WayForward for DS
James McGeachie replied to darksnowman's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Well this has taken me by surprise. Sounds amazing, I'm genuinely excited about this. Like, this one article literally has me more interested than anything on the 3DS, Wii or next gen consoles. A developer doing something exactly right for a change... -
Why the hell should there a limit on how effectively you can use powersliding? That is literally all that snaking is, something that naturally occurs if you try to increase how often you can powerslide to its maximum. It becomes the only way to increase how well you can play the game after a certain point. The snaking argument is so very simple. People that cant do it, dont like it. There are bullshit excuses about "not wanting to race that way" or "thinking it looks dumb" or utter, unsubstantiated shite about how people can "win against most snakers anyway". If you get good at it, it feels exhilirating and fun, plain and simple. Like almost every other game that exists that you can play online, some people get really good at the game and other people struggle to compete. The difference with Mario Kart is that people found a way to collectively blame a certain mechanic for this, simply because it seemed like it could be argued to be exploitive somehow. For the record I'm fine with it being removed on the basis of there being a substantial number of demands for it to go and obviously Nintendo needs to listen to fans. However, I do wish there was an option for an advanced mode or something that still included it. An actual respect for the fans who enjoyed the intense competition of having it. To be honest I don't think Nintendo removed it though in any real acceptance of it being "exploitive", I think the only true reason they removed it was because it was a convenient excuse for them to try to make the games even more casual friendly.

^Shake Dimension is a great game, if it counts!

Everytime this topic has a new post I hope it's a video of the new Chemical Plant Zone with whatever the new music sounds like. God Damnit, maybe next time.

Images blocked now. Too little, too late Capcom.

He didn't have a mohawk and had a different face. I mean maybe somehow it's the same guy, but im pretty sure first-trailer-man was just there to show the plight of the random soldier on earth, fighting a futile battle and waiting for Shepard to save the day.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS
James McGeachie replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Cool...and owning a DS system, you'll now have access to shitloads of amazing games from the last 10 years as well. Now that is progress!
