why does everyone keep going on about unreal engine 3? it a solution to make making next gen games easier.... it's not a priority for rev as making games for it is not the order of magnitude more complex that ps3 and xbox 360 games are? frankly i hope most companies don't port their other next gen wares anyway. simply because they are unlikely to use the rev thoughtfully when they do. the overblown nature of other next gen games is not what revolution is about. full stop. they are not trying to compete of the same level at all. adding psyhics to bridge that gap will simply never be a priority because nintendo don;t see it as a gap but a positive differentiator that makes games cheaper to make, easier to innovate, and more attractive to stakeholders right the way through the delivery chain due to (comparatively) reduced cost.

but nintendo don;t have to convince nintendo to buy the thing... they have to convince gamers, retaillers and publishers.... all of whom have the GC fresh in their memory.
-
right up against ps3 though? i kind of hope they give themselves at least a small window to get in there before they have to be compared to ps3.

i still think that as trying to be cutting edge in the tech stakes was never meant to be part of the plan, a ppu is not going to go in. Nintendo never intended the Rev to compete with the PS3 or Xbox 360 in terms of grunt... suddenly adding a PPU when they aren;t even common place yet seems to contradict that stance. and anyway... in the same article... and also from his blog: anyway... he summed up my feelings about this 'issue' perfectly. the revolution was never intended to compete visually with the competition - but it beat them in ways sony and microsoft haven't even considered

zelda: twilight princess as a seperate SKU?
ultrajamie replied to ultrajamie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
the cataloging thing was joke... as i said above... the fact is TP has been developed from the ground up as a GC game (for numerous years now) so they are unlikely to make a new Rev Upgrade Version that has hooks which removed features when played on the GC. The reverse, however, is almost certainly the case. I also think it'll be two seperate SKU's because Nintendo will likely want to distance the Rev from the GC which isn't exactly sparkling image of success... and only releasing it is a Rev game that can be played on the cube brings the two even closer together and further from the competiton in peoples minds. -
a PPU is not goona happen. the specs we have seen so far are inline with the small leaks that have come out and rumours about the architecture... nintendo have been determined to keep the talk away from specs - so even if there was a PPU, they wouldn;t likely make abig deal out of it. also it would push up the cost and they resolutely refuse to make it more expensive. if devs are prepared to leak the sytem spec why would they not mention a PPU? because there isn;t one.

with the rev it's the experience that'll count. thats all that needs to be said really. even screens / video aren;t going to convey how the controller changes the way you interact,

i think nintendo is going to try and get it out everywhere this year so there'd be little benefit to importing really... also, even if there is a long (ish) wait - it's going to be out before xmas in the states and shortages are likely to mean hugely inflated imported prices - which is money i can spend on the games if i wait a few weeks. nintendo know that can;t just hand an xmas to sony and microsoft on a plate. especially when there current home console is effectively dead....

Your revolution game wishlist and why....?

zelda: twilight princess as a seperate SKU?

indeed we shall... maybe it'll also be a revolution game you can play on the ds. -
zelda: twilight princess as a seperate SKU?

great then i will catalogue it next to all my xbox 360 games that can be played on the original xbox. -
at the end of the say it's his job to generate hits on a section of IGn that often doesn;t have a lot of new content to shout about day-by-day. the ps3 section on ign is much the same.

no worries!
-
by 'everyone' do you mean the same press that get invites to all 3 of the major conferences?
-
i'm wondering... do you think that Zelda will be released as a seperate gamecube and rev game - or just a gamecube game with extras unlocked when the disc is in the rev. my money's on two different packages and hopefully a few visual upgrades to the revolution version too.

That was my point... you know, sarcasm

DS RPG Deep Labyrinth Possibly Coming to Revolution
ultrajamie replied to Stocka's topic in Nintendo Gaming
anyway... why is everyone getting excited by b-list japanese games by people we've never heard of. i'm waiting to see what the big hitters are up to. -
well if someone offers me a tv for a fiver around the world cup... i'll be sure to buy that and not a couple of very cheap SD cards for my rev.
-
no... they deff said it last e3. i just wanted to be sure things haven't changed since then.
-
See! All this is the reason i wish people wouldn't just look at the clock speed and go... oh no it's barely better than xbox. it will have beautiful games!
-
simple fact is, it's not going to be stereoscopic 3d.... the hardware inside the box is very conventional and no really up to providing acceptable 3d twice over for that kind of display.
-
thanks a lot! presumably then, prince of persia on the PS2 and Gamecube couldn;t offer the exact same gameplay features? (not to mention a game that was actually good)
-
but SD CARDS are confirmed, right??
-
couple of quick Q's as i have been offered some SD cards cheap... revolution uses SD cards doesn;t it? also, iwata stated at GDC that you can plug almost any usb storage in to the 2 usb ports on the back... would it be better to get some kind of usb-based mass storage device? any advantage to either way? i think using plug in SD cards (under the flap on 'top' / side) will be neater.... the rev is too beautiful to have nasty wires and plug in boxes.
-
absolutely... and if you are using a dualshock... a bit rubbish too.
