  1. The rule of thumb has been "current consoles here, old consoles in Retro" but then looking at the description of this forum it says "Talk about Nintendo's consoles and their games here, including the Nintendo Switch, Wii U & 3DS." which may need updating a bit!

But yeah perhaps move but you can leave one of those redirect things for a week or so in order to make people aware it exists in Retro.

  2. Hmm so looking at last year I didn't really have any. I mentioned travelling but that was more a plan (which happened) than a resolution. Also wanted to bulk up and actually I've kind of ended up doing the opposite. January 1st I weight 71.5kg and today I'm at 66.3kg. Travelling did make me lose about 5kg because when you can't control your food intake its hard for a veggie to get sufficient protein and my muscle mass was the first to go. Ended up spending the latter half of the year doing a recomp of sorts.

    Anyway, 2024!

Next year is going to be a transitionary year for me. Decided I want to travel again in 2025 and look to move somewhere. I thought getting back from travelling I'd have gotten it out of my system and look to settle down (given I've basically spent the last 20 years constantly moving from one thing to the next) but nah, don't want to be here.

I'm going back to my old job on a one year contract to save some more money and to give myself time to get my career in a better position to freelance. I came back from travelling and did PTing for a while and the idea was to do freelance web design alongside it but need to build up a portfolio still. Got some projects under my belt, just need some time to get my ducks in a row.

My loose goals for the year are:

    • Save about 50-60% of that salary
    • Become more structured in my language learning (still figuring out how exactly but it has definitely slipped off lately)
    • To bulk (yes, its a repeat)
    • To get in a better position so that at the end of the year I can begin freelancing properly (develop new skills, sort out portfolio, sort out the business side of it etc)

I don't know if this should work just like Twitter links, but with people moving away from Twitter, Mastodon is becoming a good alternative. I was wondering should links from there show the same as Twitter links? I have just tried in the Lego thread and the Mastodon link just remains and link and doesn't embed the post into the forum here like twitter links.

Could this be implemented if possible?

Just adding in a link for the purpose of showing how it doesn't load in.

Day later than promised but I've had a look and it seems that is all down to IPS (who make the forums) and looking on their support forum it's not available and little call for it. It may happen, but doesn't seem like it would be anytime soon sorry.

I see those online and it baffles me why they think I'd want a 50% physical product

They're not really for you, they're for grandparents buying gifts. And to improve visibility on store shelves without having to pay for a cartridge.

He's not a founder, but he did start out by working in their original flagship store in London Tottenham Court Road and produced the original Computer Exchange cartoon advertisements that appeared in the gaming magazines of the time.

I know this is getting into the weeds but this made me question if they were originally on TCR and have moved to nearby Rathbone Place or had always been there and just said TCR because its more well-known, especially given the shop on Rathbone Place looks like its been there for decades. And according to Wikipedia...neither. Was on Whitfield Street originally.

    Anyway, procrastination over I guess.

BTW, on the topic of pronunciation shaming...

Here's an Australian SEGA advert that'll make your skin crawl...

    :D

If we're going to talk about pronouncing Sega did you know that in Italian "sega" means "he/she/it saws". Now if one imagines what else the sawing gesture could look like you soon hear "seeeeeegaaaa" in a whole new light.

(Okay not really about pronunciation but I can never not share that).

You've been browsing Reset Era too much...

Basically Americans pronounce it as "facks" because they don't facking understand how acronyms work.

Now.  Ima gonna go off and play some Snez.

    Watching American videos actually.

Although if we're being picky they do actually know how acronyms work, but not initialisations. Acronyms are words in their own right (eg scuba), whereas initialisations aren't. Depends if you consider FAQ a word.

Please don't tell me you say S.N.E.S and N.E.S. :shakehead

That's a good point, Americans spell that one out but we don't.

Looking forward to see this case get explored further. Curious to see what are the significant differences between this and the Apple case.

As I mentioned above part of it seems to be the differences in the OSes and a juror has confirmed that the fact Google deleted messages that could have been used in the trail worked against them. Google's own conduct, both as a business and a defendant, doesn't seem to have helped them.

  9. Okay now for the actual thoughts on the film

    Spoiler

It's a good film. I have not watched all 34 Godzilla films but I like when they are a good allegory for something else. The original was a reflection on the war and atomic bombings, Shin was about the Tohoku earthquake etc. This seemed a bit less obvious other than "the government is useless/doesn't care about people", but felt reflective of the country's history. I saw the director mentioned the film got interrupted by Covid and he gave allusions to it in the film so maybe it's that.

There's a few twists towards the end. One is pretty obvious (more so if you speak German), one hit me a few moments before and I felt it was a bit cheap but I saw some people say it's a good reflection of the randomness of war and the suggestion Godzilla would return is pretty obvious but unsure if they actually plan to do another film or simply to put it out there.

Good visuals too and there were a few shots of Godzilla swimming with its head above water and I couldn't help but think of this:

    happy-dog.gif

And the character Kenji Noda is a style icon. Tried to find a decent picture but couldn't.

    Wow, was not expecting that!

Remind me, how did the Epic V Apple case go down?

    Apple won that one.

From what I've seen most interpretations of the difference basically boils down to 'Google's OS is open source and Apple's isn't. Apple not allowing you to create your own app store is consistent with their platform outlook [and thus what people sign up to], Google is being selective about which parts it allows to be open".

  11. Just got back from Godzilla Minus One and I'll do full thoughts tomorrow (it's past my bedtime!) but a warning to @Happenstanceand others.

They started the film and some things weren't subtitled so I thought "hmm maybe it's just unimportant stuff" then it became obvious it wasn't that. Few people started going out to speak to staff and eventually could see the top of the next line so it was clear the image was too zoomed in and if it was only one line you couldn't see that.

After they paused and zoomed in (making it worse) people went again. Eventually they reset the film (10 minutes in at this point) and had to come back after a few minutes and zoom out.

The subtitles were below the image itself so I think it is the file rather than the cinema and there's a chance it could be fixed beforehand but might be an issue with screenings so perhaps best to be cautious.
