Tony_Montana Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601080&sid=aZYiQeR40dlI Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Walt Disney Co., the world's second- largest media company, is creating a video-game studio to make titles exclusively for Nintendo Co., targeting audiences for its animated characters. this will surely change nintnedo's image of being 'kiddy' ...
Tellyn Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 It's good news though, Disney can draw in loads of kids which means more money for Nintendo which means more first party games.
raven_blade2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 More development support! Not quite the type we need, but more is always better.
arnold Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I know it's mainly a square game...but a Kingdom Hearts for the Wii?? Yes please =D Ok, it's a big hope but you never know.
ZeldaFreak Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 remember disney owns abc and a few other big tv companies so you may get franchises based on those products as well
Sarka Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 We shouldn't judge now - their games might be marvellous. It's a new studio! And one that Disney will be paying a lot of money to make. If they get a few good developers some of the games may be quite good. At least their movies and are good - that'll hopefully translate to lovely stories/cut-scene's on the games.
Kazzahdrane Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Kingdom Hearts 2 sequel on DS? Yes please. Chain of Memories wasn't my cup of tea but it sold fairly well I think.
Gaijin von Snikbah Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 This is great news. It is a good sign that Disney choose to develop for Nintendo instead of other consoles. Disney have some quality talent.
Jamba Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Not to be too technical but it is actually a Buena Vista Games studio. BVG have made the odd really nice game that I know of like Tron 2.0 . Having a totally Wii/DS centric studio is exactly the type of thing that is needed though. Devs really need to understand the controller and the system. solitanze Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 More exclusives, thats good. Disney made some very good games on Nintendo consoles previously. Some such as Mickey Mania, Pinocchio, Toy Story etc on Snes come to mind...
dabookerman Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Fucking fantastic news, i cant wait to play Little Mermaid Wii.
antster1983 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 More exclusives, thats good. Disney made some very good games on Nintendo consoles previously. Some such as Mickey Mania, Pinocchio, Toy Story etc on Snes come to mind... All developed by Traveller's Tales except Pinocchio by Virgin Studios London. But still, not a bad bunch of games at all
solitanze Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 All developed by Traveller's Tales except Pinocchio by Virgin Studios London. But still, not a bad bunch of games at all So what did Disney just license the games or give permission to use their characters and thats it, didn't have any actual input in game development?
antster1983 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 So what did Disney just license the games or give permission to use their characters and thats it, didn't have any actual input in game development? Well, yes. They were too busy making films to bother with games back then. The Lion King was developed by Westwood Studios (RIP), The Jungle Book and Aladdin (not the SNES version) by Virgin Interactive themselves. In fact, the head of development on Aladdin was David "Earthworm Jim" Perry and many of the Aladdin team went with Lisburn's favourite son to form Shiny Entertainment.
The Bard Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I'd love it if they put the Megadrive version of Aladdin out on the virtual console.
ndreamer Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_of_Illusion_Starring_Mickey_Mouse i remember this title very well one of the best games that was in my collection, but this was by sega if they can make games even half as good as castle of illusion they should be fine.
