Gaijin von Snikbah Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 I like snow. It makes everything more peaceful and quiet. And you can throw really big snowballs at other people. They get mad and kick your ass.
Guest Ford Prefect Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 when you get snow and ice for long periods like you do here plus the kind of slippyness that you just never get even on black ice in england, you learn a whole new way of walking. you go along at the same normal speed but the instant you feel the traction beneath your feet go you lock your legs up and just go with the flow, slide till you gain traction again and then carry on. i managed to learn that local trick last winter and only fell over twice the whole winter and one of those isntances was because i was wearing a battered pair of steel toecap boots cos i'd just come from work.
Roostophe Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I don't mind snow and cold weather. One good thing about winter is getting warm. It's easier to get warm than to cool down. After being outside for about 20mins at breaktime at school it's a relief to walk into a warm classroom, even if it is a Maths classroom!
Mundi Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Snows great! Until it it gets 1 metre high and you have to take a bus to school then it get´s annoying. But still, i wouldn´t mind a little snow, been cold as hell here and no snow or rain
Guest Ford Prefect Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 with the way things are going here i'm fully expecting it being like a winter they had here a few years ago before i moved up. my dad had to climb out of a bedroom window one morning, dig his way down to the front door to get back in, then dig out from there. its showing every sign that its going to be a fucking harsh winter....
jakeee Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I wonder when it'll snow in southern Finland. It has already snowed in Lapland. I hope it won't snow in two weeks. After that... Let it snow!
Guest Ford Prefect Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodø ^ thats where i am now, no snow here yet and not as cold technically but feels as cold or worse due to the wind. brought my new russian black rabbit fur hat along for when it gets really shitty, warmer than anything synthetic...
Yoshiking Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 We haven't had any snow here yet, which is amazing. It's bitch cold though. I can't remember the last time we entered November without snow.. It's a glorious miracle! For you who keep saying you'd prefer cold weather over wet weather: Imagine wet and cold weather.. It tends to snow like hell and then suddenly it'll be warm one day, and it'll all be melty and screwy. I hate the weather here. As someone says.. Anyone who doesn't have snow has no right to complain. And if you say you want snow you're delusional. One good thing about snow though, is that christmas wouldn't be the same without it. I could do with snow all other parts of the year than December though.. The past 2 or so years it's been snowing in November, then suddenly it's melted before December and it's started snowing again the day before christmas eve. Which is kinda strange.
Guest Ford Prefect Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 i'm in Bodø now, its snowing well here also, must have a foot on the floor at least. so the snow is working its way south. give it time it might reach down to you in trondheim.
Bogbas Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Summer = warm = Great Winter = snow = Great It's the time in between that sucks. Everything is wet and cold. Like right now. It snowed a nice 5cm last weekend but it rained water yesterday. As you can imagine the conditions are pretty much wet and cold as yoshiking said. Can't wait to go downhill skiing though Plus if I can get a hold of a rearwheel drive car, I'm going to set up an ice track on a lake.
weeyellowbloke Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Woo, snow. I see some of you have had some bad experiences with snow, I can see it can be right inconvenient sometimes, but I still love it. Frankly I reckon Winter is far better then Summer, I hate the heat it just leaves me wanting to die, where as there is nothing in the world better then going out on a sub zero day, everything looks and feels gorgeous. Unfortunatly it seems to be shaping up to be a wet winter for Britain. No frost for me.
Yoshiking Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Downhill skiing is awesome. However, when you're forced to go cross country skiing by your parents, not so awesome. The worst part is here in trondheim the weather never knows what it wants. Generally we tend to end up with this sloppy, wet snow, at least from february and outwards. It would be ok if it wasnt for that.
DCK Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 You know, snow isn't that bad. But I don't see why it has to be so cold for snow to come *shrugs* Summer > Winter, no question about it.
Bogbas Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Downhill skiing is awesome. However, when you're forced to go cross country skiing by your parents, not so awesome. Well after you ski (cross country) with a backpack that has ~30kg stuff in it for 30km. You have a new found respect for going cross country skiing with just the stuff you actually need. And I hope that the sun won't shine too much on the winter months. December and january for example. Because it gets very cold when the sun shines. It's a lot warmer (still below zero though) on cloudy days.
Guest Ford Prefect Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 The view from my hotel window in Bodø. if its as cold as yesterday it feels like its about minus voetsek.......
Twilight Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 O___O That´s my face when I looked outside this morning: Yep, that´s propably about 40 centimeters of snow. And all of it appeared last night. You can imagine that the morning was chaotic all around the town because roads were covered with snow, busses were late because they had gotten stuck, people couldn´t get cars out of their carages, etc... But no, the schools weren´t closed. No matter what kind of weather is, they´re never closed here.

No matter what kind of weather is, they´re never closed here. up where i live they are pretty good, soon as the weather starts to close in all the buses, especially the ones carrying school kids have snow chains on and there are snow ploughs etc rattling up and down all the main roads every 20mins or so.... its not unusual for us to go to bed with a clear sky, wake up next day and find a metre of snow or even more. before i moved up here, a few winters ago my dad has had to climb out of a 1st floor window and dig round to the front door then dig out the cars.....
