Will Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Yeah, I thought it would sell hundreds of thousands!!! Good to see Wii selling the best though. Is the guitar hero franchise getting old already!??!! It has sold hundreds of thousands! Guitar Hero generally sells best on Wii so no surprise that this one is too, it does need a few weeks before it surpasses the 360's big start though. Dante, where does that weighted chart come from?
Dante Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 49, 2008 The All Formats Christmas Chart is only two weeks away and Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ is still very much the gift of choice, holding on to No1 for a 4th consecutive week despite a 15% sales drop. Last year’s Xmas No1 ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ was released a week earlier and only grabbed top spot in Christmas week itself, while this year the popular war game has the potential to hold on to No1 right up until Christmas. It has now sold over 1m units in the UK (it took ‘CoD 4: Modern Warfare’ 8 weeks to reach the same landmark). Nintendo emerges as this week’s strongest competitor as ‘Mario Kart Wii’ receives a power-up from widespread TV advertising, boosting it from No4 to No2 with sales rising by 15%. All four of Nintendo’s All Formats Top 10 games increase in sales with ‘Brain Training’ flexing its puzzle solving muscles, up from No5 to No4, the fluctuating ‘Wii Fit’ back on form with a 43% jump in sales, up from No12 to No8 and ‘Wii Play’ sales up 5% (down one place to No9). EA are not out of the running as ‘FIFA 09’ is a non-mover at No3, ahead of fellow EA contender ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ which slips 3 places to No5 (sales down 21%). Lara Croft continues to shimmy her way up the All Formats Top 10: ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ climbing one place to No6, just in front of ‘Fallout 3’ at No7 which enjoys a 60% surge in sales, benefiting from a retailer price promotion. Activision Blizzard’s ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’ is still rocking the Top 10 despite falling from No9 to No10, but Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2009’ and Sony’s ‘Resistance 2’ are both All Formats Top 10 casualties, falling to No’s 16 and 20 respectively. Another retailer promotion helps Microsoft’s ‘Fable II’ achieve an 81% increase in sales, rising from No35 to No19, while retailer promotion on ‘GTA IV’ coupled with the release of the PC version means Rockstar/Take 2’s record-breaker is back in the Top 40 at No22 (sales up 160%). There are two All Formats Top 40 new entries: ‘Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City’ on Wii at No26 and the latest ‘Prince of Persia’ on Xbox 360/PS3 at No30. Dante Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 49, 2008 One week to go until the All Formats Christmas Chart and the top 3 games are all non-movers, with sales of ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ rising by 2%, ‘Mario Kart Wii’ sales up by 1% and ‘FIFA 09’ sales down 1%. The gap between Call of Duty at No1 and Mario Kart Wii at No2 is 27,000 units, leaving Nintendo with it all to do in the coming week in order to claim what would be the Japanese giant’s first Christmas No1 since N64 ‘Zelda Ocarina of Time’ 10 years ago. If Activision Blizzard can hold on to the No1 spot for another week they will claim the longest uninterrupted All Formats chart topping run-in for a Christmas No1, with 6 consecutive weeks. Sales of the Top 6 games are relatively flat, meaning a 3% rise in sales for ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ is enough to drive it up one place to No4, while a 3% drop in ‘Brain Training’ sales pushes it down one place to No5. The price-promoted ‘Fallout 3’ is still a Top 10 contender with sales up 6%, rising from No7 to No6. Nintendo still have 4 Top 10 games with ‘Wii Play’ up 16% in sales, up from No9 to No7 and ‘Wii Fit’ (-5%) holding at No8. ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’ is on song this week, sales up 18%, rising from No10 to No9, while ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ almost slips out of the Top 10, down from No6 to No10. As is normal for this week of the year there are no new entries that make the Top 40, but outside the All Formats Top 10 there are several strong climbers, including the bundled ‘Lego Indiana Jones’ (+31%) up from No13 to No11, ‘Sonic Unleashed’ (+87%) up from No33 to No12, the competitively priced ‘Quantum of Solace’ (+53%) up from No27 to No13 and ‘LittleBigPlanet’ up from No29 to No16 (sales up 58%, handing it No1 in the PS3 Chart ahead of CoD). dazzybee Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 I think it should be on single unit sales personally I can't believe a game that came out over 6 months ago is only underselling a sequel from a huge game, that is out on 5 platforms and only been out 6 weeks (Mario kart and CoD if people didn't get that), absolutely phenomenal Come on Mario Kart - you can do it!!!
Dante Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 51, 2008 EA win it in injury time as ‘FIFA 09’ tops a hugely successful year by scoring the Christmas No1 ahead of Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ which drops to No2 and Nintendo’s ‘Mario Kart Wii’ which falls from No2 to No3. It is EA’s 6th All Formats Christmas No1 in the past 8 years. A perfectly timed retailer promotion saw sales of ‘FIFA 09’ soar past its rivals, up 89% on last week, while Call of Duty could only manage a 13% rise and sales of 'Mario Kart Wii' jumped 40% bringing it within 3,000 sales of Call of Duty. EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ makes sure of holding on to the No4 position as retailer discounting helps sales climb 27%, while Nintendo’s Brain Training is the only All Formats Top 10 title to drop sales, a non-mover at No5 with sales down 1%. Nintendo can celebrate a successful Christmas period however, with half the All Formats Top 10 made up of Nintendo published games. Nintendo’s games have enjoyed a strong presence in the All Formats Top 10 throughout the year and this week is no exception. Mario Kart Wii has been out for 37 weeks with only 4 of those weeks spent outside the Top 10. ‘Wii Play’ moves up one place to No6 and ‘Wii Fit’ drops 2 places to No10, but it is ‘Professor Layton and the Curious Village’ which exceeds all expectations, re-entering the Top 40 at No8, proving to be a popular Christmas stocking filler, no doubt helped by strong demand and renewed stock. Activision Blizzard’s price promotion appears to have centred more around ‘Quantum of Solace’ than ‘Call of Duty’ as the Bond film tie-in is back in the Top 10, up from No13 to No7. ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ gets a well needed Christmas sales boost this week, up from No10 to No9 with sales climbing by 22%. Dante Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 1, 2009 2009 begins in a similar fashion to 2008 – with FIFA on top of the All Formats Chart. ‘FIFA 09’ is not only Christmas No1, but is now the first All Formats No1 of 2009, knocking ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ off top spot for a second time, despite a 41% drop in sales. Sales of Activision Blizzard’s shooter are down 50%, but it remains 5,000 sales ahead of EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ which is a non-mover at No3. Activision Blizzard do have reason to be cheerful however with 3 games in the All Formats Top 10: ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’ moving to its highest ever chart position, up from No7 to No4, and ‘Quantum of Solace’ only slipping one place to No9. The rest of the All Formats Top 10 all shuffle positions with old favourite ‘Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games’ performing well, up from No9 to No5 and ‘Wii Play’ replacing ‘Mario Kart Wii’ as Nintendo’s highest charting game this week at No6. ‘Mario Kart Wii’ slams on the breaks heavily this week as sales slide 60%, putting it one place behind Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry 2’ at No8. Sega fill the last Top 10 position, steady at No10 with ‘Sonic Unleashed’. In fact, every game in the All Formats Top 40 drops sales except Nintendo’s ‘100 Classic Book Collection’ which breaks into the Top 40 for the first time at No27. Dante Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 2, 2009 ‘FIFA 09’ holds on to No1 in the All Formats Chart as the top 3 are all non-movers for a second consecutive week. However, the gap between FIFA and ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ at No2 has now shrunk from 5,000 to 400 units. EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ sticks at No3 as sales of almost all Top 40 titles more than halve. ‘Wii Fit’ is a notable exception, star jumping up the chart from No20 to No4, no doubt boosted by some well-intentioned New Year resolutions to shed pounds gained over Christmas. All Top 40 games lose sales, but ‘Wii Fit’ only drops by 1%, topping the Wii Chart for the first time since week 44 2008. The remaining Top 10 games all shuffle places, except ‘Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures’ which re-enters the Top 10 after a 6 month absence, up from No17 to No9, benefiting from competitive retailer pricing. Dante Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 3, 2009 Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit’ looks in great shape at the top of the All Formats Chart as an 18% jump in sales pushes it up 3 places to No1, relegating last week’s chart topper ‘FIFA 09’ off the top spot and dropping to No4 (sales down 35%). It is the 5th time ‘Wii Fit’ has reached the top of the All Formats chart, a position it has so far never managed to hold on to for longer than one week. The last time ‘Wii Fit’ claimed No1 in the All Formats chart was the beginning of August last year. ‘Wii Fit’ is only 1,262 sales ahead of Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ which manages a relatively respectable 18% drop in sales, holding on to the No2 spot. EA however are not out of the running, charting ahead of ‘FIFA’ with this week’s only All Formats Top 40 new entry – ‘The Lord of the Rings: Conquest’ new at No3. It’s a close run thing between the top 3 with just over 2,500 sales separating ‘Wii Fit’ at No1 and ‘Lord of the Rings’ at No3. ‘Wii Play’ (-19%) is a non-mover at No5, ahead of ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ (-52%) which skids from No3 to No6. ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ (-29%) and ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’ (-34%) both keep their grip on the All Formats Top 10 - ‘Mario & Sonic’ a non-mover at No7 and ‘Guitar Hero’ down 2 places to No8. Continued strong sellers on Wii and DS make up the last two spots with ‘Carnival: Funfair Games’ (-18%) slipping back into the Top 10, up from No11 to No9 and the evergreen ‘Dr Kawashima Brain Training’ (-17%) is up from No13 to No10. Other than ‘Wii Fit’ there are only 2 other All Formats Top 40 titles that see sales gains this week. They are ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ (+26%), up from No33 to No18 thanks to a retailer price promotion and ‘Halo 3’ (+20%), back in the Top 40 at No29. The release this week of ‘Mirror’s Edge’ on PC can’t stop EA’s adventurous new IP from falling from No23 to No27 (-38%). Choze Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 LBP still doing very well. Really sad to not see Prince of Persia. Its a classic! Was surprised to read that PS3 owners brought the most games and spent more on them in 2008 than the other consoles. To be honest nott surprising.

Dante Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 UK TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - Week 4, 2009 Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit’ goes from strength to strength at the top of the All Formats Chart with a 21% rise in sales, holding on to No1 for the first time since it was launched 9 months ago and weighing in with its sixth week at the top. If it is to become Nintendo’s longest serving All Formats No1 it will need to better Pokemon Gold’s 7 weeks and then Pokemon Yellow’s 10 weeks at the top. Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (sales up 3%) fends off another EA new release this week as ‘Skate 2’ debuts one place behind it at No3 (just like EA’s ‘Lord of the Rings: Conquest’ did last week). In fact EA claim the next 3 games in the All Formats Top 5 as ‘FIFA 09’ is a non-mover at No4 and ‘LOTR: Conquest’ drops two places to No5, sales down 31%. However, Nintendo have the most Top 10 games this week with 4 thanks to ‘Wii Play’, down one place to No6 and both ‘Mario Kart Wii’ and ‘Professor Layton and the Curious Village’ slipping back into the Top 10. ‘Mario Kart Wii’ jumps from No13 to No8, boosted by hardware bundling, while renewed stock of ‘Professor Layton’ propels it back into the Top 40 at No10. Nintendo can’t claim all five of the Wii/DS exclusives in this week’s All Formats Top 10 because Ubisoft’s own Wii Fitness game ‘My Fitness Coach’ is a new entry at No7. The release of the PS2 version of ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ puts it back in the Top 10 at No9. Dante Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit’ (-17%) takes a third consecutive week at the top to equal Nintendo’s previous 2nd best chart topper, ‘Pokemon Gold’ which also managed 7 weeks at No1 back in 2001. To become Nintendo’s longest serving All Formats No1 it needs another 4 weeks at the top which will better ‘Pokemon Yellow’ (10 weeks at the top way back in 2000). Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (-11%) remains at No2 and EA’s ‘FIFA 09’ climbs one place to No3 (+9%). Nintendo’s DS ‘Professor Layton and the Curious Village’ continues to climb thanks to replenished stock (+54%) up 6 places to No4. EA’s new release from last week ‘Skate 2’ falls 2 places to No5 (-28%) followed at No6 by Nintendo’s ‘Mario Kart Wii’ (+5%). Nintendo’s ‘Wii Play’ drops one place to No7 (-19%) whilst the other new release from last week, Ubisoft’s ‘My Fitness Coach’ drops one place to No8 (-12%). Eidos remain at No9 with ‘Tomb Raider: Underworld’ (+2%) and EA re-enter the Top 10 with ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ climbing 3 places to No10 (-3%). This week’s new releases do not make the Top 40 but EA’s ‘SimAnimals’ debuts at No16 on the Wii Full Price chart and at No20 on the DS Full Price chart. On the PC Entertainment Full Price chart Ubisoft debut at No6 with ‘CSI: New York’ and THQ debut at No18 with ‘Saints Row 2’. Dante Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Nintendo are showing no signs of over-exertion, as their fitness drive moves into a fourth consecutive week at the top of the All Formats Chart. Sales of ‘Wii Fit’ are only down 2% on last week – the lowest sales decline of any All Formats Top 10 game this week. ‘FIFA 09’ (-12%) shimmies up one place to No2, knocking Activision-Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ down to No3 (-20%) – its lowest All Formats Chart position since its launch 13 weeks ago. Every game in the All Formats Top 10 loses sales and Nintendo’s ‘Mystery Case Files: Millionheir’ is the only Top 40 new release, debuting at No4, one place ahead of similar title ‘Professor Layton’ (-14%). Nintendo manage 5 games in the All Formats Top 10 with familiar favourites ‘Mario Kart Wii’ (-13%) and ‘Wii Play’ (-16%) both non-movers at No’s 6 and 7 respectively. This week last year the software market was up and there were 3 new games in the All Formats Top 10 and a new No1 with Capcom’s ‘Devil May Cry 4’. In 2009 the software market has not yet witnessed its first weekly sales increase, while Nintendo and Wii Fit’s dominance at the top in 2009 is in stark contrast to the 5 different games that were All Formats No1’s during the first six weeks of last year. EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ (-28%) may have dropped out of the Top 10, from No10 to No13, but the American publisher still has two Top 10 games despite a 37% drop in sales for ‘Skate 2’ – down from No5 to No8. Despite falling sales, Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic’ (-5%) and Activision-Blizzard’s ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’ (-18%) climb back into the Top 10, both up 3 places to No’s 9 and 10 respectively. A retailer price promotion on the Xbox 360 version of ‘Left 4 Dead’ (+32%) sees it climb 14 places to No15, while another EA title, ‘SimAnimals’ (+90%) enters the Top 40 for the first time at No22, in its second week of release.
