DCK Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 DCK allow me to say that you're a pretty negative person towards Nintendo, in expecting the worse output for them (I remember it about the rev tech discussions)... just sit back... relax and see the E3 conference While you're sceptic give them a chance... See what they can do with a name alone. Yes, in contrast with many of you here I am very negative. Though I love Nintendo for the fantastic games they make, I sometimes get the feeling that they're so incredibly stupid. This is only confirmation for that feeling. I don't have blind faith that everything will be ok because it is Nintendo - I don't see them as a wonder company that owns all. Nintendo dissappoints me too much. Overall, I doubt that I'm that negative - this name and the specs were just such a major dissappointment to me.
Hellfire Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Except to say that there were no specs revealed and the name hardly matters. This whole "I'm a Nintendo fan, but they keep screwing up" attitude has been going on for too long. Nintendo always did things differently and always made good games. Nothing has changed. If NIntendo did what most people like you want, we'd have Nintendo CoolRevoX that would cost 700$ with awesome graphics and loads of ports, stupid adverts (like the PSP squirrel one), a realisitc Mario FPS with a prostitute peach and a Zelda where Link ran on on walls in slow motion. You people have been saying since the dawn of time that nintendo keeps disapointing you, then why do you say you're a fan? Just swallow it up. I'm not bashing you and you have the right to say your opinion, this is just mine. Just to make it clear, I don't have a grudge with you or anything
DCK Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Being a fan does not mean 'swallow everything your ... does' in my book. If I'm not a fan, or not 'true' enough (come on!), well I'm okay with that. I've been very positive about the controls, I've been very positive about the DS and I have been very positive all the way about the GameCube. This, however, I find plain ridiculous, and it's a big thing for me to swallow. I got over the specs, still not positive about them, but I got over them. Now I will have to swallow this too, and I'm just nibbling it.
Belease Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Waaa waaaah, IGN agreed with people who dislike 'Wii' as a name. Guess what - it's a stupid name. Everyone knows it. Nintendo fanboys can rationalise it all they want, but Wii is retarded for a console's name and IGN are saying what they really think. Boo bloody hoo. Okay, if you like Wii, good for you. But stop moaning about other people having an opinion on it being a dumb name. You can't stop people from making obvious associations and listing the reasons why that name is stupid. Yeah, we probably will get used to it, more's the pity. But right now, 'WTF' is pretty much justified from everyone. Nintendo probably love this anyway - so there's no need to get your knickers in a twist about the shocking immaturity of the games media (like that should have been surprising.)
Smowza Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 The hardest thing about it for me is the crap i'll get off people i know, the're already drooling over the ps3 and i find myself defending the big N all the time. It was impossible to defend the GC when ps2 had new release after new release. I've watched the vid from nintendo and i know the reasoning behind the weird name so i'm educated and fairly supportive of the name, but they know nothing and will still know nearly nothing until the things released. Nintendo needs to really advertise this name and they dont have a particually good record here in the UK. That really worries me. p.s. IGN have not done themselves any favors by showing such lack of maturity. Here on forums and between fans etc is fine (i did some piss taking myself), but from a huge and fairly respected site like IGN it's pathetic imo.

People are moaning about others being so immature because we don't come here to listen to ppl continuously go on about it like 10 year old school boys would. Wii is no more retarded for a games console that the "X-Box" is.

I dunno, I think a lot of people are moaning because even professional games writers think it's stupid. Even if you think it's the best name evar, accept most people, upon hearing 'Wii' will think 'that's stupid'. Just accept it. There's no reason to be shocked, surprised, hurt and morally outraged about people's reactions, it's not like they're beating your mother.

I don't think Wii is the best name ever, far from it in fact. I was just like most others that said 'Holy Fuck No!!!!!!!!' when they first heard about it. Im not saying anyone is wrong for saying that they think it's the worst name ever; that's their opinion and they are entitled to it. All I suggest is let it sink in and they might like it more. : peace:
ShadowV7 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 It's really sunk in to me now.I still prefer Revolution however.
LazyBoy Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I'm with DCK on this one, Wii is a rediculous name. I seriously find it hard to believe that no one at Nintendo turned around and said, "no, you can't name your next console after piss". I'm still gonna buy the console and love the games, but i'm just saying, this is the purple console of the next generation, a big f***ing mistake. And to anyone who says i'm just being a fanboy or i'm being unfair, no, i'm not, Wii is just stupid. It just is.
Shyguy Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 seriously guys, what are you talking about. Wii is a FANTASIC NAME, it just shows that nintendo are jumping into the lava once in a while and with the profit of the gamecube on them, they obvoisly have the money to take that chance The name means nothing to me when im sat waving that sexy FHC around the room staring at the screen. that little black box with the logo "Wii" will just be sat next to my subwoofer of my PC or ontop of my television. Wii, shows there are no boundries between countries / people / sony fanboys :P (they are an entirly different race based on whines and threats, but then again, who am i to say :P ) some people may think im a fanboy who is trying to defend nintendo but doesnt like the name either, you my friends, are correct :P
