Julius Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 Per the PS Blog, it's being remade in UE5: Quote Rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, Until Dawn has seen enhancements across the board, all made with passion and care for the original from the team of horror lovers, film fanatics, and veteran game makers at Ballistic Moon; and it's coming to PS5 and PC this year! Until Dawn has been rebuilt with the latest tools and techniques. New and improved animations build on the success of the original character performances. Characters, environments and VFX have been upgraded – all for a truly enhanced cinematic horror experience. Imagine giving Until Dawn this treatment ahead of something like ICO or [insert long list of 20+ games probably more deserving of a remake than this PS4 game]

Hero-of-Time Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Still baffled why this is even a thing. Although, a quick google revealed that the original is now 9 years old. That is bonkers to me. Feels like a relatively recent release. Time has ceased to have any meaning to me.
Happenstance Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I feel like it could still do well if its marketed at the younger audience that never played or watched people stream the original release. Its probably not gonna be one though that a lot of people will want to replay who had it originally.

Though I can't exactly say totally unexpected considering, well, current PlayStation, and this is getting driven as being a pretty big deal by them it seems So you can either pay £60 or you can buy the original Until Dawn for £10-£15 physical, its standard RRP on the PlayStation Store is only £17.99, and the real kicker? It's actually still included in the PS+ Extra catalog of games curious to see if it moves at all from that catalog to, say, Premium (TLOU Remastered is in Premium and Part I is a thing) or if they do any funny business like Nintendo have when releasing some Wii U ports on Switch. Having not played Until Dawn myself before and not being blown away by the trailers and comparison videos for this remake/remaster, I doubt I'll get to it anytime soon considering I have a list of spooky games I want to get to in October already...but if it were to make the cut, well, yeah I'm just going to play the original 1
Julius Posted October 9 Author Posted October 9 (edited) Reviews for this have gone up in a very weird fashion - IGN seem to be the only ones with a video review? - so I think it kind of got buried in the ReFantazio hype, but they are about as expected. IGN's review and Digital Foundry on the technical aspects: There are some real choice quotes going around from the written reviews, just flicking through. Quote Until Dawn is an overpriced and under-featured remake that seems less like a must-have bit of moonlit murder and something closer to a case of daylight robbery. - IGN Quote Until Dawn Remake is a painful reminder that change isn't always good. A poor totem system, bad performance and clunky controls really hold it back from joining other great remakes of late. - CGMagazine Quote Until Dawn drags a contemporary classic into a new generation [...] the problem is it costs three times as much as its nine-year-old predecessor, and doesn't have an upgrade path. For all of its grisly glamour, that makes this remake a tough sell – especially when it runs at half the frame rate of its predecessor when played using PS5 backwards compatibility. - Push Square Yeah, yikes. For comparison, the recent PC port of God Of War Ragnarök achieved an all-time peak of 35,615 players, while Ghost Of Tsushima: Director’s Cut hit 77,154.
