Charlie Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 For me, it's taking 6 months to go and work a ski season. A lot of friends and family have done this and had the time of their lives and come back amazing skiiers. 6 months out in the Alps would be incredible. The work isn't too bad (depending on your job) and other than that it's just skiing and drinking. Sadly, I think I'm past the stage of my life where it's acceptable to do as I'm pretty settled with my girlfriend (don't think she'd enjoy me taking off for 6 months) and I run a side-business and can't really leave that with my business partner...
Shorty Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Of three things, there are two I've never done, and one I've started working towards. Climbing and snowboarding are the two I always put off. Climbing would be pretty easy given the huge facilities in my city and proximity to the peaks. Snowboarding has always seemed too expensive. The third thing though I'm happy to say I've started. I want to ride a motorbike around Europe. Probably France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland. I'm not much of a traveller, I spent 6 months living in the US once but I was an invincible teenager then, nothing worried me. So it's going to take some planning, money and guts! I've bought my first bike, need to work my way up to something bigger, put in thousands of miles of practice and start planning. I imagine it'll be several years away, but I'll definitely do it. And maybe while I'm in Austria, I can cross snowboarding off the list
Charlie Posted September 18, 2015 Author Posted September 18, 2015 That trip sounds amazing, definitely get planning that. How would you feel about dropping everything to go away for 6 months? Would your life/job wait for you?
Shorty Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Yeah my job would let me go on a sabbatical with enough notice, I'm fairly certain. I've been with them many years and they're all really good people. There's a lot to be done before I can do it though. I need to either rent out a room, move in with someone else or move somewhere much cheaper so that I can start saving. That's probably the biggest step I need to take to get the ball rolling. Here's a pic that captures what I want to experience
Ashley Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Not always but since I finished my masters I've been wanting to make a career out of creative work and I may not actually make any money, but I'm quitting my job next year to pursue it. Which only sometimes feels scary.
Raining_again Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I want to compete in weightlifting/strongman :-)
