Do we know that the NX is even a standalone console?

supplemental-computing-device-640x294.jpg

The Wii U already has HDMI outputs, wifi, bluetooth etc. What if "104" is like a gamepad, streaming data from the cloud, storing data ahead of time to create a buffer to smooth out inconsistencies in the connection and then streaming the data consistently to the Wii U as it needs the data... a weak connection requires a higher spec "104", while a strong connection allows for a base spec "104". the "104" can be embedded in the NX, but owners of the Wii U can simply buy the NX upgrade pack...

As for internet connections.. this is using wikipedia, so I'm sure there are more reliable sources but:

In Mbps:

South Korea 29, increase of 2mbps in a year

Norway 21, increase of 2

Sweden 20, + 1

Hong Kong 19, +3

Switzerland 18, +2

Latvia 18, +1

Japan 18, +1

Netherlands 17, +1

Finland 17, +1

speeds are on an upward trend. Not 100% sure what the government broadband index is.. but South Korea is at 4.4/5 at number 1... Japan at 4.3, USA at 3, France at 3.9, Germany 2.6 and the UK at 2.7. So those, I believe are the main markets for Nintendo, right?

Just thinking, the gamepad, as I understand it, applies new technologies developed with other companies to reduce lag significantly, so that the game pad works. The game is running on the Wii U, the image is streamed to the gamepad, input is transmitted by the gamepad back to the Wii U, the game responds and the image is streamed back to the gamepad. Now most on this forum (or at least the most vocal) have complained about the issues with range, but what if Nintendo, rather than extending the range of the gamepad, have dedicated these years to developing a system where the gamepad is replace by the Wii U, and the Wii U by a server? plug the "104" into the ethernet port at the back of the Wii U, and you have yourself an NX.... ::shrug: just a thought. If the NX is essentially an upgrade kit, maybe £180 with a traditional controller and a download code for Zelda NX.... the NX itself is about X1 power, but then also has the Wii U as a frontend and the server as a back end...

It's going to take something really special to get people not only talking about them

A week can't go by without a new NX rumour, the console is building hype by itself and everyone is talking about it.

I think you're mistaking hype with curiosity. The rumours might well be spreading curiosity amongst the gaming community (and nothing amongst the general masses who won't see them), but I've yet to personally feel hyped about it because of any of the rumours - in part because that's what they are.

Maybe others are different though.

In terms of Nintendo fans, sure. From what i've seen in my circle of mates and work colleagues none have any interest in what Nintendo are doing, yet they do keep an eye and enjoy talking about what is on offer elsewhere. These are the people they need to get talking about them. They can't rely on the ever shrinking core fan base to keep them going.

Also, what Ash said.

It will be interesting to see if they can win gamers back with the NX. A LOT of bridges were burned this generation and many have moved on and found their gaming needs being met elsewhere.

As Zelda at E3 showed, it doesn't take that much for them to be the talk of industry. If their console knocks it out of the park it should get a few people back onside.

They need a hell of a lot more than that. :D

Being the talk of the industry is very different to being talked about by the general public.

I doubt anyone outsides gaming forums cares much for the NX right now. There's very little hype. There's hardly any hype on here and it's a Nintendo forum. And before you leap on that comment, no, it's not because we have an unwarranted grudge against them.

It's because we don't know anything about NX. And most of us were disappointed with the WiiU. So much so we went out and bought a PS4.

Funny that, considering it hasn't even been announced yet. There's no hype for Playstation Neo and I doubt anyone outside of gaming forums cares about Scorpio either and that's actually been announced.

In name only.

And I think a 3,300 post / 125,000 viewed thread points to a fair amount of hype. Type in Nintendo NX on Google or YouTube and you'll see thousands of reports and videos on the console. For something that only has a codename, that's not bad going.

And before you leap on that comment, no, it's not because we have an unwarranted grudge against them.

Unwillingness to offer them any praise whatsoever is probably more accurate. It almost felt like people were put out that Zelda was getting such acclaim.

Why? What on earth does this have to do with the NX? Why must everything be a competition to you?

Nobody is bashing the NX or anything like that. They're merely saying at the moment there's not much hype because we don't know much but there is an interest in specialist circles. Yes, we also don't know much about the Neo but nobody is saying there's hype for that. Again it's mostly curiosity (about what it will actually be). But there's a bloody thread to discuss that and you're not in it at the moment.

I'm referencing how the industry works. It's really not that hard to understand.

And I was saying how I disagreed, that there was plenty of hype and interest around. A quick look on Google, Gaf or Youtube would prove that.

Why did you need to do the former to explain the latter?

How did the former support your point that there is hype for the NX when you are saying the industry has no hype for consoles it knows nothing about and/or is not on the immediate horizon?

Why were you unable to make any of these points without trying to criticise others?

Why could you not have just shown the hype for the NX that is out there rather than trying and diminish another company?

Why did you feel the need to turn it into a competition if there's so much hype for the NX? Surely showing that would have made a better argument than "yeah but Neo!"?

Yeah I'm not going to bother anymore. You can't actually build arguments you just decide to attack the opposition. This isn't an American election it's a friendly chat about gaming consoles.

You said that "no one outside gaming forums cares about the NX", I tried to show what a useless argument that was by suggesting that no one outside of gaming forums cares about ANY unannounced gaming console. In the gaming industry, plenty of people are interested in NX and it's developing hype all on its own, with barely any publicity from Nintendo themselves, IMO. Bodes well for when they do eventually reveal it...

The ridiculously over-defensive on here may not see it but I'm not attacking other consoles, I'm constrasting hype and buzz between the three console manufacturers. That's all.
