As the title says, Firefall Website is a free to play MMO shooter created by Game developer Red 5 Studios.

 

It has pvp and pve elements already built into the game. To play, it currently feels like Unreal Tournament, Quake and Tribes.

 

It is currently in closed beta - a proper one where you can expect the game to change with each patch - and has an astounding amount of potential to be a great game. The developers and even the CEO of the company, regularly post and read the forums - everyday in fact - providing and listening to feedback and implementing favoured ideas from the forum goers via the voting system. You can use 1 to 4 of your 10 allocated vote points, to help the developers know what the game really needs.

This is something I would be interested in! Looks really good, however that video didn't really touch on actual gameplay or social aspects.

 

I need something new for my PC as I'll be spending more time there soon. I'd love that beta invite @Deathjam, if it's still going, give me a shout :-)

It's actually very hard to find an up-to-date gameplay video of Firefall as it changes so much and as it's an MMO, there is alot to actually cover.

 

EDIT: If anymore people are interested, I can possibly get more invites via some friends.

Its basically a greatly expanded Borderlands MMORPG. Probably the simplest thing for console gamers to understand. It does have even more RPG and action elements. The game is big. Firefall is also very social. So think WOW rather than most MMORPG. Certainly not like KOTOR or GW2 which were not MMO's truthfully. Towns are mostly populated by other players instead of npc's in the beta. There are bosses were many players team up. Quests take you in massive open world environments. There are sub elements. This game is a great match for next gen consoles.

 

The PVP is weak for me imo. I'd prefer if it was like a normal fps for that side of the game. PVE is looking very promising however as mentioned above. Its a cut above what most people play on consoles as RPG or single player FPS nowadays :)

 

Planetside in comparision is a MMOFPS (not an RPG) in comparison and plays like a proper next gen fps but with gigantic/massive scale. That is free to play and has superb gunplay. Takes time for unlocks however in comparison to something like COD but abilities play a much bigger part and there is tons to unlock...

Ah so someone else has tried this. You got a founders pack? Bought the one that gives access to the lgv which, as the world expands with each patch, is really needed to get around. The pvp style is supposed to harken back to the old days with stuff like quake, tribes and unreal tournament. Will play more when it's a little more balanced and they actually add in the armies functionality. Oh and the developers are very keen to point out that it's a shooter first, with MMO and RPG elements tied into it.

 

As for Planetside 2, gonna give it a go soon. When I loggged in for the beta, I was pretty overwhelmed with the amount of information being flooded into my screen. Much worse than starting something like battlefield for the first time. Didn't know where to start so just logged right back out and went back to firefall.

Maybe thats how you describe it. Closest comparison i can make is Borderlands when it comes to shooting. It is abit better than that though. Its nothing like a serious fps though which is why i am not that keen on pvp right now. Maybe if you level up more?

I also have invites if anyone else wants in. I haven't had a chance to get into it yet but it seems to have a lot of potential. Still in that "overwhelming don't-know-what-I'm-doing MMO noob" phase though.

Not my description. DEVELOPERS description and intent of what game they are trying to make.Very important. As for pvp, enjoyed it a bit but when they had US servers, found it was next to impossible to reliably hit my opponents. Now we have EU servers, haven't had chance to test it out but for the moment, the PVE is where its at for me.

 

 

Planetside 2 is awesome. You will love it. Has next gen all over it :)

 

Graphics did not impress me too much but it's about scale so almost quantity over quality. As for the gameplay, we will see.

There are two keys in your inbox.

 

There seems to be aquite a few bugs that I've encountered already. During the main quest, it wouldn't update my inventory, so despite having over 1400 Crystite, it said I only had 10, so i couldn't build the Basic MPU. A few hours later the server had updated and I could continue. Now on the next part, there aren't any Hisser Burrows or Thresher Cores for me to search.

 

They need to fix these bugs if they want people to play the game.

Yeah they know of the bugs. Next patch is a in a few days, aiming for monday which should provide many noticeable changes.

 

Imagine the game as a diamond in the rough (very rough). Still has a long way to go. I wouldn't worry too much about the quests as they are placeholders, they probably wont be in the game in the current form when it drops the beta tag. They have been in the game since day one and haven't changed as the concept and design of the game has changed. They also send out the wrong messages of how one progresses in firefall.

 

EDIT: Must stress this more, PLEASE visit the firefall forums and leave feedback of what bugs you find and the problems you have. The developers read it every day and if it's a really good post, don't be surprised if you get a direct response.

Apparently my internet connection is not 'good' enough. Downloading the game takes forever and crashes a lot -.-

 

Going to try this again tomorrow. Hopefully it'll work then.

Lots of people were having trouble with the downloader. If you check the firefall forums there are some unofficial torrents.

Destiny looks to be a game in a very similar vein to firefall.

 

Destiny is not a MMO. Its a paid package game like COD. Bungie have been very confusing with their unveil. It seems more akin to borderlands(non open world) with its coop mode and competitive mixed in. Not bad. Will hopefully push for the standard console fps to not follow the 'COD package' of single player, some extras and competitive.

 

Lets see when Bungie decides to reveal their game. For now firefall is miles away more ambitious. I hate the current beta right now though. Its all dark and rubbish. I want to go back to testing the exploration aspect.
