Hamishmash
I recently did this drawing. It mixes together the art style of the Tintin covers with the subject of the Zelda games but I think it'd be more effective as part of a series so I am thinking of making more (and re-drawing this one). http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvoomfViFe1r5ejtko1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323992283&Signature=5EFZd2PGDBXu8c%2BpIRFVb8m8Peg%3D To make them more authentic, I'd like to use French titles for the games I'm adapting, but when they were released in France, they just used the English names. Is it possible if any of you could help me? I know it's a bit of work, but I'll give credit and I just think it'll look better than the english names. Words specific to the game (in other words, words which can't really be translated, I have indented like -this-). I've also changed the titles SLIGHTLY in order to make them more Tintin-y. The -Hyrule- Fantasy The Adventures of -Link- A -Link- to the Past (As this is word play it might be difficult...) -Link's- Awakening Ocarina of Time (I don't know if there is a French word for Ocarina or not...) The Mask of -Majora- The Oracle of Ages The Oracle of Seasons The Wind Waker The Adventure of the Four Swords The -Minish- Cap (as in hat) The Twilight Princess The Phantom Hourglass The Spirit Tracks (as in train tracks) The Skyward Sword (or any variation of the word Skyward) THANK YOU AND LOVE YOU ALL. Mike
With my degree in French, I really should be able to do these no sweat, but alas, I am a little rusty.. If nobody beats me to it, I'll give it a go over the next couple of days, but to be honest, you'll get better results from a native speaker! Actually, come to think about it, as most of the games are named after objects that appear in the game, there'll probably already be an official translation for most of them out there, as for example the object the Wind Waker would have been called something like 'la baguette du vent' in the game. I'll have a root around French websites, to see what I can find.. Edited December 15, 2011 by Mike
Eenuh
Ok, I've given this a try. My French is very rusty so looked some stuff up, and this is the best I could come up with. If anyone here is great at French, feel free to correct any mistakes I might've made. Hope this can help though. La Fantaisie d’Hyrule Les Aventures de Link Un Link Vers Le Passé (not sure about this one, could be au passé instead of vers le) Le Réveil de Link L’Ocarina du Temps Le Masque de Majora L’Oracle des Âges L’Oracle des Saisons La Baguette du Vent L’Aventure des Quatre Épées Le Chapeau Mystérieux / Le Chapeau des Minish (first is the literal translation of the Japanese title, second uses the Minish people like the English title) La Princesse du Crépuscule Le Sablier Fantômatique Les Voies d’Esprit L’Épée du Ciel / L’Épée vers le Ciel (The Sword of the Sky / The Sword towards the Sky)
Hamishmash
Those are beautiful. I love L’Épée vers le Ciel. It's as clunky as some of the Tintin titles.
Jonnas
A -Link- to the Past (As this is word play it might be difficult...) The Japanese title is "Triforce of the Gods" which would become "La Triforce des Dieux". Considering the English title seems to have been made for the sake of a pun, I believe this would be more appropriate. Ocarina of Time (I don't know if there is a French word for Ocarina or not...) Ocarina is one of those universal words, I think. Also, I remember trying to play OoT in French back when I was learning. Weird stuff, "Arbre Mojo" and "Village Cocorico". Speaking of such changes, Wikipedia tends to be a good way to find official translations or, failing that, literal ones. Here's the French page with the official species' names, if you're interested in something other than just the titles.
Hamishmash
It's all fascinating. It's like seeing the foreign names for Pokémon and the interesting way they construct them. Does anyone think this is a good project? I know it's a bit of a random mash-up and I hate those but... maybe I think if there's a set of them, it'd get more attention. Sméagol
Can’t help, but just wanted to say that cover is amazing. Captured the Tin Tin look & feel perfectly!

French Poké-names are fantastic I'm not one to mind changing names along with languages, especially when it's done as well as in Pokémon. Does anyone think this is a good project? I know it's a bit of a random mash-up and I hate those but... maybe I think if there's a set of them, it'd get more attention. I'd be interested in seeing those, honestly I like what you did with that cover up there. The only downside is that it is not an actual album that I can read
Hamishmash
Well I started sketching out "La Triforce des Dieux". It's gonna have Bunny Link looking into his magic mirror and seeing the reflection of a shocked looking regular Link. The Wind Waker one was a bit broad, but I do want the covers to just show moments from the games, sometimes funny moments or memorable moments, rather than be a "poster" were everyone is posed. Also, my Wind Waker one copies the cover for THe Black Island. So I may copy some more covers.

Also, my Wind Waker one copies the cover for THe Black Island. Truth be told, I also prefer covers like that, showing more about the premise of the work than anything else. Posters are better left for movies. I can't wait to see those Zelda covers in Franco-Belgian style. It's a series that really lends itself to that sort of thing. Deathborn
I'm french so I think I can help... La Fantaisie d’Hyrule Les Aventures de Link Un lien avec Le Passé (the pun don't translate at all in french) L'éveil de Link L’Ocarina du Temps Le Masque de Majora L’Oracle des Âges L’Oracle des Saisons La Baguette du Vent L’Aventure des Quatre Épées Le Chapeau Mystérieux / Le Chapeau Minish (first is the literal translation of the Japanese title, second uses the Minish people like the English title) La Princesse du Crépuscule Le Sablier Fantôme Les Voies Sacrées (official translation but not literate. If you want a translation more "train-oriented" and literate, use "Les Rails Spirituels") L’Épée Céleste (Skyward is hard to translate in french. It would be something like "L'épée pointée vers le ciel/les Cieux" but it is kinda heavy and doesn't sound good.) Hope this help!
Hamishmash
Cool. I like having options. What does Les Voies Sacrées literally mean?
Jonnas
If "Voies" means the same as the Portuguese "Vias", then it refers to Paths, Roads, Tracks, etc. and it is commonly used for car lanes, or vehicles in general (Though Deathborn would have to confirm this), thus "Les Voies Sacrées" would mean "The Sacred Roads" or something very similar. "Rails" is specifically for vehicles on tracks, like trains and trams.
Hamishmash
The Sacred Roads... that's such a nicer namer. Thanks.
Hamishmash
Quick question, is Le Légende de Zelda right? I know I can check online, I just want a double check...
Deathborn
Cool. I like having options. What does Les Voies Sacrées literally mean? What Jonnas said! And for your last question, it's "La Légende de Zelda".
