CompSci Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 ok guys i am a newbie when it comes to tv', can someone tell me that if i get a 100htz tv i will be able to run games and dvd's in progressive scan, if not what do i need to run games in progressive scan
Mr_Odwin Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I think 100Hz refreshes the screen 100 times a something, but progressive scan is a different way of showing the picture (not interlaced). They're not the same thing, and if a TV is 100Hz capable it doesn't mean it is progressive scan capable. A progressive video shows entire frames at a time, but an interlaced picture shows every other line of a frame (kind of). Progressive vid therefore looks smoother. For progressive scan I think you need to look for a 480p capable TV.

As odwin said, the p at the end of 480 stands for progressive, and if its 480i its interlaced. Look for it ending in p.
Will Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 100hz and progressive scan are two different things but if your buying a decent set its quite likely that it will support a progressive signal. Its definately worth checking that it will support progressive before you buy though.
DCK Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 If it can do an interlaced picture 100 times per second it should be able to do a progressive picture 50 times at least. Don't know if it works that way though.
