DanielTimothy
Nicholas Nickleby a man who on his his father's passing looks to his uncle for help and employment.'Nicholas Nickleby' a story of the injustice and cruelty of the times. The novel's true unrelenting becomes aparant when Nicholas becomes victim to Dotheboys hall. When first Introduced to the school this Is shown to to Nicholas through the 'headmaster' Mr Wackford Squeers. The man Is a tyrant, first coming across as rude and idiotic, almost comical. This changes when Dickens Introduces what Mr Squeers Is preying on, the boys of the school. These "vicious faced" "students" all sick or abused are being leeched off. What really stands out as shockingly evil Is Squeers' pride for his business as If his contience Is untouched. Yet, regretedly he does not work alone."I do not know her equal" he drivelles to Nicholas when first meeting 'Lady' Squeers. She Is just as cruel and callace as her counterpart. They are shown as a team, one armed with a cane the other with a spoon. In acount of the way the boys are treated their affection for each other comes across as deeply sickening. Mr Squeers' 'love' and 'dear' shows Inishiative as a businesswomen by "treakling" each boy In the school. "It spoils their appetites and comes cheaper than breakfastand dinner" she has no regret In 'serving' out this purid concoction. Neither show mercy, humanity or shame for how to boys are inprisoned yet they show 'love' and caring for one another this enormous contrast put with the lack of guilt shows the Squeers' attitude for running a school. Now, lesson time, English infact (terrible subject). Somehow when Mr Squeers 'spells' out a word It administers a task for the students to do "A horse is a quadraped* go look after my horse rub him down well, or I'll rub you down". No ability of the boys Is let to go to waste, the rule here is one of fear. When the post arrives from London Is a prime example of this. Each boy singled out, humiliated or even beaten. One boy, Bolder, his farther two pound ten short angered Mr Squeers, who In turn "Caned him soundly: not leaving off indeed, until his arm was tierd out". This is how the students are used and kept in line and Is where Mr Squeers being a laughable character ends. His unforgiving temper and his judgement on hurting the boys unjustified or not shows Squeers to be a sinister part of this story, not a positive one.
