Pancake Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I was going to buy one of those Play TV tuner things so i can record TV on my PS3, but while reading reviews for it i noticed people were talking about transferring the recorded TV on to their computers to watch. I guess this is just an option, for if you wanted to watch it elsewhere? But you still can watch it on your TV, via the PS3, right?? The reason i want it in the first place is because i prefer to watch stuff on the TV, rather than the comp! And i miss a lot of programs, cos i have to be in bed early for work. Does anyone know? Don't wanna pay £33, if i still end up having to watch it on the computer!
Shorty Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I'm afraid I don't know anything about TV Tuners, but is your computer close to your TV? Or do you have a laptop? I'm assuming with you having a PS3 that your TV is decent, and has HDMI ports or at least a VGA port. So you could do what I do and just connect your PC to your TV and use it as a second screen? This of course means that you have to have HDMI out on your computer, but if you do it would be a very cheap option with even quite long HDMI cables costing about £5.
Pancake Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 I have a laptop, so it can be put next to TV. I don't have the HD thing though. Hmmm... i don't know... maybe i'll just order this Play TV thing and see.
Shorty Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Are you sure? If it's a modern laptop it will probably have it. It's nothing special: It's the first port on this image The port on the far right is a VGA port which would also transfer your image to the big screen, but not the sound. If Play TV works, let us know
Ike Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 You can watch your recorded programs from your PS3, transferring them is optional. Although I think you should be able to stream it from your PC to your PS3 if you did transfer. Also, there are (unofficial) drivers for the Play TV so you can use it on your PC.
Diageo Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 You could always do what I do and get a program that is a media server and send the video to your PS3. For free.
Pancake Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 I've already ordered it now, but thanks.
