McPhee Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 You know what I mean :P The first game was it's own story with a few events carrying in to the second game (The assassination attempt at the end, Geralt's memory loss). The Witcher 2 is more like 'The Witcher 2: Part 1', a lot of loose ends aren't tied up and they'll flow in to The Witcher 3.
Shorty Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 As much as I loved this game, it was over all to suddenly. The part in Flotsam makes you feel that the game will be huge, and that you'll repeat the cycle of side missions and stories in various towns whilst chasing Letho. But really it's just three acts, and each is half the length of the previous - partly due to content, partly due to the sharp difficulty decrease which comes with easy to acquire epic weapons and suddenly very frequent level-ups. Brilliantly crafted story, great fun to play and well made, but left me wanting much more. I really felt that the end of the game could've easily been the half way point.
Aimless Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Whilst I agree the third chapter's a bit brief, bear in mind the second is almost completely different depending on how you finish up the first. The consequences of your actions are far more palpable than in your usual BioWare game; much as I enjoy that studio's output, the ramifications of your actions generally tend to be slightly different flavour text as opposed to something genuinely divergent. I also think it's worth mentioning that The Witcher 2 is very lean for an RPG, tending to forgo the usual fetch-quest bulk that accounts for a good chunk of other games; the first loved to make you run back and forth through its environments. As such I think it's better that the game left you wanting more rather than outstaying its welcome. In other news, seems my bandwidth theory was more or less on the money: CDP are interested in releasing the game on PS3 once they're finished porting the 360 version. That shouldn't be taken as an announcement, of course, more a statement of intent.
Shorty Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Later this year. 360 trailer on the previous page. I assumed though, that had I gone with Roche, the second act would've been little more than a mirror image of Iorveth's version, and that the end would've have played out fairly similarly. I won't give it another playthrough though, I'll probably buy the 360 version and jump straight into the hardest difficulty. I doubt it will look as good as the PC version on Ultra settings though!
Mandalore Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I beat the original game yesterday. One of the best RPGs if not best games I've played in years, really looking forward to playing the sequel.
