I know there's a Windows 7 thread, but I'm sure this'll become a big topic. Plus it'll be easier to keep track of (after all, we don't want to clog the other thread, do we! :heh:)

Anyways, I've (so far) attempted to run Bioshock and Call of Duty 4 on Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit). Both run fine up to the main menu, and then crash at the loading screen, just before actually getting into the game. I can't even do anything, I have to resort to holding down the power button on my PC till it switches off!

I've attempted to run Bioshock in DX9 mode, but that just gives me a blank screen and I need to power down my PC again.

In CoD4, I've attempted to run it in compatibility mode with XP (Service packs 2 and 3), but it just tells me to "insert the correct DVD and click ok to try again", when the DVD is actually in there. I can actually get into the game menu on Vista (Service Pack 2) compatibility, but it crashes before it can get in game. I have not installed Punk Buster.

I'll keep you all posted, but if anyone can help I'd be grateful. Thanks if anyone can help...

Probably asking the obvious here but which graphics card and driver are you using? Also are other games running fine?

Also the first thing google came up with might help you: http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/3139-bioshock-finally-working.html

i finally managed to get Bioshock running in 7000 32bit. i had to run the installer in Vista compatibility, otherwise it got confused by DX11. then i actually had to install DX9 from the DVD (!) otherwise i just got a blank screen. finally, i had to run the game in XP compatibility mode, otherwise i got no sound during the game.

I've got Call of Duty 4 running fine, neigh, better.

Hmmm, interesting. What graphics driver are you using. I have a really bad feeling that I shouldn't have updated my graphics card driver...

I'm running an ATI Radeon 4850 with the latest Catalyst drivers, updated since I upgraded to Windows 7. Have you changed from 64 to 32bit, by any chance?

UPDATE:

Okay, ignore my posts about Windows 7 and games not working, I got them working now! Here's some advice for peeps that have the same issue; check your nvidia control panel! For some stupid reason it had the multi display and phsyX options enabled, when I'm only on one GPU that doesn't support PhysX.

All's well now anyway, thanks to anyone that helped. ^^

The 8800 series supports PhysX so that shouldn't be the issue.

Some drivers I got through windows update though fucked things up so you might want to install all the drivers yourself, specifically stuff like soundcard drivers.

I did update the drivers last time, but to no avail. After a clean install, I still get the same issue. Though, as I posted in the "Windows 7" thread, I think it a hardware issue. I ave an overclocked processor, and an overclocked graphics card (the latter arrived overclocked when I bought it a few years ago.) Could that be an issue?

UPDATE...

Okay, I've sort of got games working. I installed the motherboard chipset drivers from disc, as well as manually updating my audio drivers.

After this I installed CoD4 and upon first playthrough, all was well. However, I quit to the main menu and when I went to continue my game it froze, again. It just keeps freezing on the loading screen, just before going in-game again now.

Team Fortress 2 works fine on first play, but when it goes to load a new map between rounds/after quiting a server, it also crashes. I can still play a round after rebooting though.

Seriously, what the hell is going on here?! I think I might manually install my graphics drivers, although the Windows auto update says they're the latest version. Plus being as I can actually get into a game first time, I don't think that's the issue here...

How do I view error logs? The games completely freeze my system when they crash, the only way to get out of it is to power down my pc and switch it back on again.

UPDATE...

Ok, this issue gets stranger and stranger. I installed the Nvidia 191.07 drivers manually, and my games still froze, I tried everything, to no avail. So I then went for the 195.39 BETA drivers, tried Team Fortress 2... and it worked! I quit a game, loaded a new server, it worked again! However, I attempted CoD4 again, and it froze. I rebooted my computer, loaded TF2 and when it was loading a server, it froze just before going in-game, again! I attempted to run the Left 4 Dead 2 demo today as well, but that also crashed at the loading screen.

Seriously... WTF?! O.o

EDIT...

Okay, I'm clearly wasting forum space here, I'm keeping this to the "Windows 7" thread. Ignore this thread now, please delete this one mods.
