Nintendohnut Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Hey peeps. I'm looking for a digital photo frame for my girlfriend for her birthday. My price range is around £50-70 but I don't know what I'm looking for really so any help would be greatly appreciated! At the moment I'm looking at the nix range of 7inch frames, like this one: NIX 7 Inch Cordless, Flat Screen High Resolution 800 x 480 Digital Photo Frame - Internal Rechargeable Battery, 2GB Internal Memory, Auto Rotate Sensor, Touch Sensitive Controls - TS07E It looks pretty good I think, and there are some good customer reviews, but I would really like to read a professional review, or go into a shop and have a look first hand. My problem is that a) I can't find a single digital photo frame review page that is professional rather than a 'rate when you've bought' thing, and b) I'm not sure whether this brand will be stocked anywhere as it seems quite a small brand. So yeah... I call for your help. Does it look good? Can you help me find a review? Even better, can you help me find a shop that would have it? Thanks for your help guys!
Cube Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Are you sure it's what you want to get her? I don't know anyone who still uses theirs - it usually ends up in a cupboard after a few weeks. For a photo frame, these digital ones are a ton of hassle (due to needing power, turning on/off, etc). It's a nice present, and a nice concept, but they really aren't good in the long run.
Nintendohnut Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 This one seems okay, it has a rechargable battery, and a function that allows you to turn it on/off at certain times of the day automatically. She's just got a new camera, so I thought it would be a good present... Also seeing as we're both at uni at the moment, she would just have it in her room (which isn't massive) and it would usually be within arms reach. don't know, but I think as long as we keep it updated with new photos then it should be okay. Basically I was trying to think of what to get her and this seemed like a good idea.
Cube Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I wasn't saying not to get one, just wanted to make sure it wouldn't go to waste. Closest thing to a review would be one for the next model up: http://www.digital-photoframes.org/8-inch/nix-ts08a-digital-photo-frame-review/ I'd expect the one you've got there (this one) would be similar except a bit smaller and without the audio/video/calender functions.

Oh right okay No I think she'd use it (hopefully) and if not... I'll make her. And those links are great thanks I read the review of the 8 inch one and one of the main plus points is that it is 4:3 so photos do not have to be cropped. Is this usually an issue with small frames? I don't really see the point in paying so much more for the 8 inch if all it does is show all of a picture, but if the seven inch crops horribly or something then it might be a problem. Although this doesn't seem to be mentioned by many people in user reviews... Thanks for your help Cube, those links were really useful
Mr_Odwin Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Digital photos (generally) have an aspect ratio of 4:3 so anything different to that will either add black bars or involve cropping. That's my main beef with most of these digital photo frames.
Nintendohnut Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 Yeah I'd like to get the 8inch one instead to display photos properly, but when it's £65 for the 7 inch high def one, and £90 for the 8 inch, I can't see the point. Thanks for the help here guys, any more would be appreciated (recommending a better one or whatever) but you've helped me feel more confident about getting this one.
