In order for the industry to come in flat or slightly up for the total year, the back five months of the year have to come in 11% (or more) higher than the last five months of last year. While year-to-date results are weak, there are some big titles set to be released over the next several months, including Madden this month, which should help spur sales. The worst comps should be behind us, and looking beyond August we have The Beatles: Rock Band, Halo 3: ODST, and of course, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to look forward to. Hardware sales have slowed considerably on nearly every platform. The Xbox 360 is the only console system showing a unit sales increase year-to-date, while the NDS has the highest sales of all hardware platforms both for the month, and year-to-date. NCAA Football 10 was the top selling game for the month, with combined sales of 689K units across all platforms. Wii Sports Resort was the top-selling software SKU for the month with 508K units sold with a 2.5% attach rate to the hardware install base. Of all genres, the music/dance genre has suffered the greatest declines this year, with nearly $390 million less revenues than the same time period last year. Edited August 13, 2009 by Dante
Zechs Merquise Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 More good news for Nintendo. PS3 getting hurt hard again, and Jap sales were great this week, with Wii at 46,000 units and PS3 at a mere 6,300 units.

It seems like sony hurt you in some way as you take every chance you can to take a shot at them. Personally, it is disappointing to see ps3 sales so low as it means Sony will be less inclined to drop prices, meaning my stubborn friends will still be reluctant to buy one. It's the reverse for Nintendo, but the result is the same. No price drop, and other stubborn friends will still not buy the wii.
Dante Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Sony released this chart with their press release:
D_prOdigy Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 They forgot the others don't have Sixaxis either.

That might just have something to do with Sony supposedly making a big announcement on the 18th, with most people suspecting it will be a price drop or a PS3 Slim. I don't think it has anything to do with Nintendo.

Dante Posted August 16, 2009 Author Posted August 16, 2009 The people who bought Gamecubes and/or N64s. Ive have owned Snes, N64, Gamecube and now a Wii but if Wii saw selling like the Gamecube, Nintendo by now will have give up on the console and force more on the DSi.
Daft Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Sometimes I wish there was a 'Loser' option just for Zech's comments.
dwarf Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I like Zechs Merquise, he's a brilliant member of this forum and offers great insights in discussion. He is a valuable person to have here and I thank him for his non-biased opinions and witty banter.
killer kirby Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I love this generation of gaming xD, please never end.

It pisses me off that every time the PS3 has a half decent week you get the great 'it's the big comeback' posts all over the web, well I like to point it when it happens the other way. And SONY are getting creaming in all territories at the moment.
dwarf Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I didn't know questions could be answered so badly. Personally I haven't seen any 'It's the big comeback' posts, especially here in N-Europe, you're just trying to have another dig at the PS3 aren't you? Otherwise you wouldn't be pissed off when there's no reason for it - you take pleasure in reading the numbers when Sony aren't doing well. Maybe the people you talk to are all half-wits like yourself. I would detail the sheer brilliance of your last line but I can't be bothered.
Pit-Jr Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I cant recall the PS3 ever having a half-decent sales week In honor of the Wii's success in July, im gonna buy Arkham Asylum next week
Ren of Heavens Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I wont say this is good news for the Wii. It has the biggest hardware decline compared to July last year (555,000).
