ShavenWolf Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I don't know if this is deserving of its own thread, but I was given a SNES a couple of weeks ago without a power cable, so I'm having to hunt one down myself. I was just wondering, does the NES power cable fit in the SNES? I'm after a NES too and it would save me buying a separate power cable if it does work! Thanks!
flameboy Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I am pretty sure it does...pretty sure they are the same...if not though they can be picked up really cheap on ebay
Nolan Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 They will work for each other, buuut iirc they are not the same voltage/wattage etc. it'll work but it won't be good for the machine or powersupply.
ShavenWolf Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 Ok thanks guys. I'll check the voltages when I get my NES. Whenever that may be.
McPhee Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 It works, i used to use the same cables for both back in the days when i was too young to realise that it could have killed one of the machines :p
McPhee Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I sold the SNES a couple of years back. The NES still works, though there's a loose connection in the internal power supply that needs resoldering, but that was due to wear and tear (unplugging, plugging back in, moving it around a lot and generally not taking as good care of it as i should).
Rummy Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (edited) You could probably just buy a variable DC power supply thing from Argos or something, just check the rating of the SNES/NES to make sure it's got a high enough current rating and you should be fine. It's less awesome than having an official power supply, but more awesome than potentially melting your consoles inside. EDIT: Actually I think Flameboy might be right, my SNES says it's 9V, 1.3A and so far the internet tells me the NES is the same rating. The SNES also says only to use it with 'NES-002-GBR' which makes me think that it is infact the same supply, but still check to be sure cos of all the different models/revisions, but as long as they're both european, all signs point to it being totally safe! Thanks! A quick look round eBay shows that there's loads of adaptors for both NES and SNES consoles, which also leads me to believe it's totally safe.
ShinynewJB Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 My NES came with a generic power supply (ie. not Nintendo) and it works fine. Infact, while I have the official Nintendo SNES power supply, I'm using the generic power supply for both of them right now. That is, before I just read this and realised I could be risking my precious consoles! So I'll be taking the SNES power supply upstairs. Never realised it wasn't too good for them.
