Wesley Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 So I was thinking of buying a domain for a portfolio/server/testing ground. I saw that wesley.co.uk was up for sale by Sedo but asks for an offer. Does anyone know what a decent offer would be? Also, if I don't make an offer for this, what websites are the best for domains (price wise)? Also... hosting? What are decent hosts today? I haven't done anything like this for yeeears.
Dyson Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Unfortunately your offer is too low and cannot be accepted! Please submit an offer above the seller's minimum price of: 500 £. Unfortunately it looks like someone has bought it with the sole intention of selling it on, quite a common practice. They figure the domain is worth £500, though, so that's definitely not worth doing. I was quite lucky with http://www.dysonism.com I suppose - by the way, I got the domain name with Godaddy. £6 for a year I think, good price, think there's free hosting too but not sure.
Emasher Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I've been using Host Excellence for a few years now. They're pretty good. With their basic package (about 5 bucks a month) you get 1 domain, 20 sub-domains, and 1000 free POP email addresses. Plus they have a great online control panel.
Wesley Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Temple of Dysonism is an awesome name. Well, cheers guys. I'll check out those companies but without "wesley.co.uk" I don't think I'll go for any. Probably just get a blog...
RoadKill Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I use http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ because they're fucking cheap, £2.99 for a UK domain a year, apparently their customer service is shit but I've never had my domain go down and I've never needed to contact them, so I'd still recommend. I don't use them to host my pages though, I only use them for the domain, so I have no idea how good their hosting is.
Shorty Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I use godaddy.com because you can get a pretty decent 2 year linux hosting package with it and get the domain name free. Also if you look around there's often voucher codes for godaddy that give you big discounts (once I got a year's hosting and domain name for about £6). If you go with them, just make sure you take the linux hosting package not the windows one, because it's shite.
Ten10 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I'm thinking of maybe using JustHost they seem to offer a pretty good package for about £4 a month. Doesn't quite beat £6 a year but they have a good track record. Never mind just read a few reviews turns out they suck. Been having a look around and this seems to be good http://www.nouptime.com/
