Haden Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 As the summer streches ahead of me I have decided to try and fulfill an ambition of mine and try and learn to play the guitar. If anyone has one that never gets used let me know! I have various 360 games Halo 3 Crackdown Bioshock that I could get rid of in exchange and of course money can be discussed although I lack any! Oh if you dont have one but know a cheap place to get one for a noob like me give me a hollar. Anyhow thanks for any replies.
welsh_gamer Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Have you tried 'The Works'? I got a full size acoustic guitar for only £12 from there around Christmas.
Haden Posted July 26, 2008 Author Posted July 26, 2008 Oh that sounds ideal. Is that a shop in the UK? Ive never heard of it googled for it and found a quite expensive guitar shop dont know if I got the wrong one?
tapedeck Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Argos are decent mate. I got an acoustic for £19 with case/books/reed tuner and it still gets used today. Great for just learning with. The works is primarily a book store but they do musical instruments. Ebay is always a good bet too. I would say just start learning with a normal acoustic (not electro acoustic), then when you've picked enough up, go electro. And are you teaching yourself? I learnt that way, (although I'd had piano lessons which made notation/chords etc easier) I would reccommend looking online for some video tutorials (youtube is ok) and http://www.ultimate-guitar.com is good too. Happy jamming buddy. And prepare for some teensy pain for the first few weeks, skin is gonna harden all over your fingers. Woo! Rock on! If all else fails buy GH!
kyletherobot Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I think he means don't buy it if you want to learn to play the guitar, cos, as good as GH is, its not all the realistic.
MadDog Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I think he means don't buy it if you want to learn to play the guitar, cos, as good as GH is, its not all the realistic. Ah right ok :P I thought he was saying GH wasn't a good game
Tellyn Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Ah right ok :P I thought he was saying GH wasn't a good game Yes, but it's not going to teach him how to play an acoustic guitar over the summer, is it?
Guest Jordan Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Pshhh... playing the drums on Rock Band is the closest thing you'll get to actually playing the drums. Guitar Hero controllers are nothing like playing the guitar.
Jon Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Pshhh... playing the drums on Rock Band is the closest thing you'll get to actually playing the drums. Guitar Hero controllers are nothing like playing the guitar. Not really, Rockband drums aren't really like playing the really things. Probably closer with some pans and frozen noodles.
Dyson Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Not really, Rockband drums aren't really like playing the really things. Probably closer with some pans and frozen noodles. That bad eh? Ah well... I can dream. I'd say they are actually. If it didn't have a foot pedal it'd be stupid, but you learn to co-ordinate your foot rhythm and your hand rhythm through RB. On top of that there are some key things that you learn, if you were to play RB solid for a week or so then get put on a real drum kit, you'd be better than somebody who was just put on a drum kit. The same can't be said for GH.
tapedeck Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I see the throwaway comment I made took a life of it's own. Th interwebz strikes back and all... I just meant if Haden wanted to just cut loose and rock out over the summer, GH would be a good alternative. But yeah, GH is NOTHING like playing the guitar. (Apart from requiring practice to nail certain songs!). Anyway, did he (Haden) even get a guitar? Or is he too busy playing GH now! :p
Haden Posted July 29, 2008 Author Posted July 29, 2008 lolerskates this thread exploded. Did you mean the junior guitar at argos tapedeck? Thats the 19.99 one. I might just see if there is a spare one among friends or family.
tapedeck Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Yeah mate, the junior one. £19.99. Think they have another one too...but it's like £80. Keep an eye out on the local ads to. There's always musical instruments going in my local paper. Maybe a mass give-up of guitar? Who knows. Best of luck anyways.
