Olympic Gamer Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Okay, I've recently had to change my protection details twice on my netgear as a MAC address which is foreign to my house keeps appearing and every time it does, our internet speed cuts drastically so I have came to the conclusion our shoddy neighbours are doing something with it. Now, I cant be assed to constantly update the details and change protection regularly, so i've decided it may be a good idea to possibly block to mac address that seems to be the culprit. I cant find anything in the settings, but is there a way to block it?
Raining_again Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I believe you can lock down your router and only allow your own MACs to connect. I know that's how we do it with our internet (netgear router) think its under access control? I'm not sure really as my father does the router maintenance. Sorry I can't be of more help! But don't use that as sole protection on your router as it isn't THAT secure.
Marshmellow Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Most routers have ways of blocking mac addresses. (Or at least the all that I've worked with) I'm assuming that you know how to access your routers page or whatever it's called.. (192.168.x.x). Look under wireless, or security, or settings, or features, anything along those lines. Look for something called "Mac Address Filtering" or "Mac Filtering" and then go there and put in all your pcs mac addresses that go through that router, and then update your router and you should be set.

Marshmellow Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Haha I guess that could've been rephrased a little better. Usually with Mac Address Filtering you put which mac address's which you want to allow to connect through your router.
Olympic Gamer Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 Thanks for the help every one. There were no ways of blocking MAC addresses so I used Raining Agains way of only allowed the MAC addresses I specify. I'l probably have to change that when I move as my family arent very tech savvy and no matter what I teach them and how many times I show them, they never learn. Thanks again.
