Twilight Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 http://eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=61604 Some tidbits: - 512MB of flash memory is expandable. - Revolution´s disc drive is the first slot-based disc drive that can handle two different formats - number of third parties have already committed to providing their back catalogue for download -It is possible that you could download trailers, in-game music or demos of games that would expire in 30 days, or a game that you could share with another person - Merrick confirms that Hideo Kojima is working with Revoluton project. - "With DS, we were 14 weeks, which was the tightest Nintendo has ever been with a console launch and that was an achievement. But with Revolution, we expect to do better than that. That certainly is our goal." - Europe might not get left behind for once. It´s possible that Revolution would be launched in Europe before Japan or USA (seems very unlikely, imo)
Darv Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Hmm, some interesting stuff, but the whole slot disc being able to handle two formats is nothing new. Not if he's talk about the size of the discs because my CD player in my car will do small discs as well as the normal sized ones.
Mike Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 An interesting interview - good find! I don't believe for a second that Europe may get the Revolution before Japan and the US, though. We're lucky if we get even a couple of games per year before another territory at the moment. Can't wait to get some more concrete details on the Revolution, though - it can sometimes be hard to believe a lot of things said in interviews like this, what with Nintendo changing its mind and putting back release dates all the time.
mike-zim Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 excellent. this is good news. it does how ever throw up more questions than it does answers.
demonmike04 Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 excellent. this is good news. it does how ever throw up more questions than it does answers. Lol, Nintendo always gives that feeling. But hey, when they have time to hint, i've got time to wait. Im just happy Nintendo are keeping us tuned into the development, without us getting bored of waiting.

system_error Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 It is a nice interview especially because Merrick really talks about stuff instead of just giggling catchy phrases like Kaplan. The comment about the EU launch before Japan sounds good but it is complety off limit. At best it is Japan and then a very close US <-> EU launch. I think the drive is able to play small GC DVDs and regular DVDs for movies/games. Games might come on a custom DVD format - maybe with DRM and/or more space.
Innovance Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 i dont get how he can say a massively multiplayer game isnt nintendos style??? Animal crossing, if anything wouldnt a massively multiplayer type thing be the next step for this franchise? I wonder what kind of disc format itll use, i hope it isnt going to be DVD, it wont be HD-dvd or bluray either or the GC discs, so what is left??
BigTac Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Merrick also had this to say: Our time is almost up, according to the kindly PR gentleman with the stripy scarf, so let's end with a tricky one. What does Merrick think of Epic Games' Mark Rein and his suggestion that games based around the freestyle controller will be "gimmicky", "cheap" and downright "crappy"? Merrick appears to be unconcerned. "Mark has a very narrow section of the business. Epic builds middleware, they're very technically savvy guys, but he doesn't have a Revolution controller, he doesn't have a dev kit, he's talking about something he knows nothing about. "So if he'd like to get a dev kit and really dig into it, then I'd be interested to hear what he has to say." There you have it, Epic Games' Mark Rein - come and have a go if you think you're hard enough. And now there's just time for one more trip round Cheep Cheep Beach before it's off home to reflect on what we've learned, ponder the future of Nintendo and wonder why it's surprising that frankfurters taste exactly the same in Frankfurt as they do everywhere else in the world. Ah, life's great mysteries.
