I'll be getting my first camcorder this week to do some home videos and I'm going to need some video editing software. Not looking for anything fancy, just basically the ability to cut up bits of video and put them back together again, maybe add some titles, not really bothered about flashy effects or anything, and it must be free.

Any recommendations?

Well, there are a lot of free applications for Windows that let you make some clean editing.

Jahshaka, ZS4, Virtual Dub are some good examples.

Personally, I love Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, and Imovie is pretty decent too, but neither of those fall in the categories you mentioned.

Hope that helps.:)

But Windows Movie Maker is a buggy poo-ridden piece of crap. My recommendation would be to just leave the video that way it is, as tinkering (except straight cutting) will require re-encoding the video stream.

You're just confusing me now.

Haha.

My advice: If you want to do a really good video edit go with a Adobe Premiere.

If you just want to make a little simple home movie Movie Maker will be fine.
