New Nintendo Patent

Recommended Posts

Hmmm, cools. A HDD huh? Nintendo changing the design for Revolution perhaps?

I see a HDD as a must on a console.

One of the geratest annoyances ever is when you have to save a game and dont have a memory card (thus having to pay yet more money on a console) or you are out of save-space. Plus, one of the reasons a Xbox is so fast is becuase it caches a lot of information to the HDD.

It would make sense for them to include it on the Revolution so that you can save all your NES, SNES and N64 games on it after downloading them.

A HDD would be a really nice addition to store all the downloads and this could also mean that we can download additional maps for games or some sort of game extensions... if Nintendo decides to support that.

It says EXPANSION DEVICE. Im thinking it is a hard drive with a wireless connection to the Revo. Maybe Nintendo is thinking about incorporating a web browser into the Revo.

It was filled 2004 and published 2005 - it is not that old. After all the Revolution basics are nearly finished I guess.

Wasn't this the 64DD patent that was misunderstood last year?

The important part is this:

Parent Case Text

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a continuation of U.S. application Ser. No. 10/144,748 filed May 15, 2002, entitled "Security System For Video Game System With Hard Disk Drive And Internet Access Capability", now U.S. Pat. No. 6,712,704, which is a continuation of U.S. application Ser. No. 09/384,189 filed Aug. 27, 1999, now U.S. Pat. No. 6,468,160, entitled "Security System For Video Game System With Hard Disk Drive And Internet Access Capability", which is a continuation-in-part of U.S. application Ser. No. 09/288,293 filed Apr. 8, 1999, now U.S. Pat. No. 6,599,194, entitled "Home Video Game System With Hard Disk Drive and Internet Access Capability", which applications are hereby incorporated by reference herein in their entirety.

So the original patent, upon which this is simply an expansion, is from 1999, pointing towards the N64 DD add-on.

And this forum is annoying the heck out me, keeps on saying this is a duplicate of one I posted within the last 5 minutes, despite it failing to actually add the post to the thread. Hopefully adding this extra text will stop it being a pain!

I really think that 512MB of internal memory is enough.Maybe if they took it up to 1GB it would be better but its more than enough for save games and old games. My only doubts are about maps and stuff you download but I sill think its enough. HDDs only make the console more expensive, bigger, hotter and it requires more power.
