The Lillster Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=24334 Platform holder wins four trophies Nintendo's rival platform holders failed to get a look-in at the MCV Excellence Awards last night as the company walked away with no less than four trophies. Samdecahedron Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Go Nintendo! But i suppose the real question is how GAME won Specialist Games Retailer. Did they just pick names out of a hat?
Tyson Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I disagree with alot of them, such as Blizzard being an "unsung hero," but still, well done to Nintendo.
McPhee Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Go Nintendo! But i suppose the real question is how GAME won Specialist Games Retailer. Did they just pick names out of a hat? I think they deserve it, they've improved loads over the past 12 months. Gamestation on the other hand have stayed pretty much the same
Charlie Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I've never seen why everyone hates GAME so much. What have they ever actually done wrong but employ the occaisional member of staff who doesn't know absolutely everything about games?
Cube Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Distribution Team Winner: Koch/Nindie Finalists: Gem, Centresoft, Just, EUK Last I heard, Koch were losing out on deals and are doing rather badly at the moment...(I work for a company that usually deals with koch)
Zechs Merquise Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Well, that is good result. I defo think they were right about the best publisher.
Samdecahedron Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I've never seen why everyone hates GAME so much. What have they ever actually done wrong but employ the occaisional member of staff who doesn't know absolutely everything about games? Whenever i go in, I'm watched by the staff, and as soon as i look at something, they come over asking me if I'm OK. When they don't care. And add-on sales, they drive me up the wall. But most of all it's their ridiculous prices. Wii buyers didn't get any bundle savings at launch, trade-ins are awful and they charge a ton for second hand games. Gamestation on the other hand are friendly because they're nice people (not because they're trying to push products on to you) and the prices are great, as well as trade ins.
Smiter Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 I guess it depends on the store. My local GAME has good staff, it all feels nice and laid-back. The manager always seems to be on the counter (at least when I visit) and he's a cool guy. Doesn't know everything about games but he's friendly. They don't force themselves on you like Currys employees (or any other major electronics chain that employs salesmen). Agreed, the trade-ins aren't the best, but I find my local GAME more relaxing than my local Gamestation (which has a smaller space and so feels kinda constricting). Still, whichever store you like, the best deals are almost always found online... Oh, and congratulations Nintendo. They've definitely been getting better in recent times. (Even if Paper Mario, Trauma Center and Pangya have been delayed for ages in Europe... *mutter*)

Gamestation on the other hand are friendly because they're nice people (not because they're trying to push products on to you) and the prices are great, as well as trade ins. Gamestation are begining to suffer from the trade ins though, 90% of my local store is second-hand games + consoles and they have crammed so much in there that its impossible to move around when its busy (i.e. weekends). I also dont find Gamestation any cheaper than game, they have the occasional good console bundle but other than that they're pretty much the same for price. I still like Gamestation but i use it more as a bargain bin than a games store these days. New games all come off the net or from Game/PC World/Discs & Disks (local independant)
flameboy Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 I've always hated Game, I think it is because they are a far more corporate company and are arrogant for being in number 1 spot, but who can blame them. I worked at HMV who are still number 1 for music and they are arrogant beyond belief. I have always found the staff more friendly in gamestation and they will stop what they are doing and have a chat with you etc...something that has never happened in game.

I find that happens a lot more in GAME than Gamestation.
