stuwii Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 can it only hold that one page of 15 or more were talking flash memory here
Rummy Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 you mean the internal 512MB? Well it's really quite very variable, some people have done calculations with average game sizes and that and worked out that it's probably alot, but I dunno how accurate those are. It also depends on what else is taking up your memory. If I'm not mistaken some of the new channels take up a fair chunk of space, save games take up a tiny amount, pictures and notes on the message board must take up memory too, so really I don't think it's easy to say.
stuwii Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 i am taklking about that wii screen with 15 boxes is that it or are there pages?
Tellyn Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 i am taklking about that wii screen with 15 boxes is that it or are there pages? *sprays insecticide* That's hardly games is it!? They are CHANNELS. Note the '+' symbol at the side of the screen. Grab a Channel and hover it over that icon to go on to the next page, or just click it to browse through. OR as Kurt said, you can browse with the controller's + and - buttons.
motion Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I think he changed his question half way through. What does flash memory have to do with channels. No one could possibly be stupid enough not to realise that there are more pages can they?
Fields Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Someone asks a legitimate question and everyone laughs at him and insults him? ONLY ON N-EUROPE!
Rummy Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I thought you meant as in terms of memory, as you mentioned memory, and there are actually only 12 channel spaces per 'page' if memory serves me rightly, not 15. I think at the moment though, there are only 3 pages, so thats like 36 spaces for stuff. I imagine if it comes down to it they'll release a system update to make more space, or the wii will automatically add a new page to accomodate for it. In future, try and be a bit clearer with what you're asking please? I'd also recommend reading the instruction booklet too actually, I'm sure something like this would have been covered in there.
motion Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Someone asks a legitimate question and everyone laughs at him and insults him? ONLY ON N-EUROPE! Or, someone (let's say me) states his own personal opinion about a sport and is insulted and told to fuck off by people (let's say you, among others). Only on N-Europe?
WardyBoy14 Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Woah - don't we have some harsh users? I think he meant VC games, and considering they're stored as channels it is the same question...although I can't see how you cannot notice the + sign...

Only on N-Europe? That's not hhow I remember it. Someone started a thread for football fans to discuss football, then someone came along and called us all 'thugs' and 'chavs', before filling approximately 8 pages with the same ill-thought out points over and over again without even acknowledging what other people were saying.

You are so full of shit it's unbelievable. I never called you all thugs and chavs. I said there is vast amounts of hooliganism/violence (among many other things) in football. That's all. Deal with it.
Jonwah Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 How much do channels generally take up? So far I've only got the news and internet ones and I can't remember how big they are. Is there any way to remove a channel such as the news channel or that opinions channel that I haven't got yet?
Tellyn Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Yep you can delete all downloaded channels through the Wii Options menu (botttom left corner of Wii Menu).
motion Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Still, would it have killed Nintendo to throw in a gig or two of space rather than a measly 512mb? It's a bit worrying that less than three months after launch, all the space on my Wii is nearly filled up. Or does Nintendo feel it can make more money by selling External USB Hard drives?
Jasper Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Still, would it have killed Nintendo to throw in a gig or two of space rather than a measly 512mb? It's a bit worrying that less than three months after launch, all the space on my Wii is nearly filled up. Or does Nintendo feel it can make more money by selling External USB Hard drives? Flash memory is not cheap, you know. It would have driven the price of the console up. And I know many think it's not much, but it's enough for what it needs to do. If you'de stuff it with MP3's, then it's not much, if you'de fill it with game saves, messages to your Wii and channels, it's a lot. There are a maximum of 48 avaible channels and maybe Nintendo can expand it later on - but for now, it's not necessary, because once you have that much channels you're Wii's internal memory will be full anyway - so you can't have a new one untill you delete older ones. Smart thinking. I think we're amking a big problem out of this. Every Gigabyte would have made the console more expensive. Let's keep that in mind while laughing at the PS3-buyers who are throwing €600 in the face of the retailer.
motion Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Adding 1gb would have probably added about £5 or £10 to the cost of the console, if that.
DCK Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Flash memory is not cheap, you know.Lately, it's as cheap as dirt. 1 GB would be perfectly doable and add about $3 to the manufacturing costs.
Jasper Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Lately, it's as cheap as dirt. 1 GB would be perfectly doable and add about $3 to the manufacturing costs. Hm. Odd. I used to think that a gigabyte might cost you a lot. What's in there anyway? Is it something like an internal SD card? Or is really haywired into the system? Ah well. I'm happy with the system this way - we can't store anything on it anyway, except game saves. No MP3-files, no other files, no media except for some lossy JPEG. So it's a little lacking anyway. If it had an Xbox-style Media center, I bet we wouldn't be happy if they included ten gigs. I accept my demise upon pricing of Flash memory. I thought it was expensive (that was one of the things that had driven up the cost of Wii, said Miyamoto). Lesson to be learned: Don't believe PR.

Of course, Nintendo announced the amount of memory way back in 2005 when price was an issue.
stuwii Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 im talking about wii game data here not channels, like zelda and excite truck
That Guy Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Well err, 512mb. Depends how much the games saves take up, doesn't it?
