Publishers wary of creating Nintendo titles, says Wii developer

So true. Nintendo fans are always interested primarily in Nintendo games; third party games are a nice 'extra', really.

The reason ppl own multiple consoles is because of this strange misconception devlopers have of Nintendo console owners. At the best, 1st party titles are few and far between and there is a market to print money with the right games between these titles....

It doesnt take too much intelligence to work out the point when not to release a game on a Nintendo console imho.

The creators of Sadness ( Nibris ) have spoken about this issue.

In response to the interview snippet with Brian Dreyer, Piotr Babieno from Polish indie developer Nibris has spoken exclusively to C3. This is what he had to say:

The Wii has a lot of potential - all of us agree on that. Nintendo always make the best games because they have the best creators, like the greatest person in video game history - Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto. I think that in the gaming industry there are about twenty visionaries with the courage to create their visions, and at least half of them work for Nintendo. That's why Nintendo has the greatest games

Brian Dreyer notes that many publishers are afraid to put new IPs on market. They prefer remakes rather than new fresh things. It's fine when we have great IPs like Final Fantasy, Mario, Zelda or MGS; but now many games on Nintendo Wii and DS are just ports and nothing more. Publishers have to believe that fresh games and new IPs make this market bigger and better. We need more new IPs and less sequels and I think that's the point that should come out of this interview. This is the reason why Sadness will never have a sequel.

Nintendo brings to us two of the best piece of hardware ever - DS and Wii. Both of them have a much much better potential for creative work than XBOX 360 or PS3. There a lot of fresh game ideas but publishers sometimes have to risk. Then they can think of profits like Nintendo.

Nibris are good guys. I hope they have successful development on Wii and DS.

Besides third party devs should use their heads a bit more. If they want success, they should create good original games and release them at a time when no good Nintendo game is out. They can capitalise on any droughts of Nintendo software to ensure maxmium sales.
