  1. I imagine we'll see a repeat on Nintendo's 2017 software strategy for the Switch Pro. BOTW2, a new game from the Mario team (which is rumoured to be a Donkey Kong title), possibly Mario Kart and then Splatoon 3 (already announced). I'm hoping for a few third party titles too - Red Dead 2 would be lovely.

I imagine they'll announce the console before E3 for two reasons:

    1. It gives time for specs and stuff to be discussed outside of their main E3 video, which means they can focus on their software line up for the next 12 months.

    2. It means third party announcements over the next few weeks can include Switch Pro footage / confirmation.

    PS5

    Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales - £42.99

    Sackboy A Big Adventure! - £51.99

    Demon's Souls Remake – £59.99

    Marvel's Spiderman Ultimate Edition – £59.99

    PS4

    Days Gone - £16.99

    Marvel’s Spider-Man - £16.99

    Death Stranding - £16.99

The Last of Us Part II - £22.99

    Ghost of Tsushima - £30.99

    PS Hits Titles for £11.99

£60? Fucking hell what a joke.

TLoU2 has just received a 60 FPS patch so I'll be purchasing that.

  3. Hopefully Demon's Souls will be competitively priced. If it's around £35-39 I'll probably bit. I was so hyped to play it originally but £70 is way too much.

Ghosts of Tshushima got a 60FPS patch right? If so, I'm tempted to give that a go. Nioh Collection is tempting but I only really want to play 2.

  4. I know there's a separate thread available for this game (which I'll leave a more detailed post in) but given this thread gets more traffic, I just want to point out that I've completed Disco Elysium an it's one of the best games I've played in years, and absolutely one of the more unique titles I've come across. I can't stop thinking about it, which can only be a good thing.

  5. Just reached the end of day 3 and the patches definitely seemed to have made a big difference. Really enjoying the experiencing so far.

It's one of those games that's difficult to talk about because the game is just so different to everything else out there, but it truly is excellent.

From what I hear, it's the purest form of Visual Novel. Don't expect any actual gameplay here.

If that's fine with you though, it's probably worth checking out. Because it's apparently very good in that regard.

Yeah, I just finished Raging Loop and thought it was EXCELLENT. It was my first VN experience where there was little actual gameplay (compared to say, Phoenix Wright or the Extreme Escape games). I've heard incredible things and could do with another Switch game to play at night.

  7. It looks like the all-time number 1 ranked game on Metacritic is now The House in Fata Morgana (small sample, but still), which releases on Switch this weekend.

Is anyone getting it? I've heard from numerous people that it's the greatest ever visual novel but I assumed there was an element of hyperbole in their statements. Very tempted.

@S.C.G Is this something we'll be covering?

After checking this out it does indeed sound good, and well received. It is the sort of game that you have to wonder if it might come to Plus though, or get even cheaper down the line.

I've just discovered the joys of Remote Play, so it'll be the perfect game to play in bed (or when the other half is watching TV).

Honestly, I completely underestimated remote play and how excellent it is. I'm just over half way through Shadow of the Colossus (remake) and I've split my time between playing in bed on my Macbook and playing on the TV. If there's lag, it's not noticeable.

Played a couple of hours of 13 Sentinels and I'm enjoying it so far. The combat in the game isn't the most engaging yet but as I'm mostly just playing for the story that's fine. The story itself is being told out of sequence, jumping from point to point so it's quite interesting trying to follow everything and piece together what's happened.

I've heard amazing things about this game. I'm tempted to buy it given that it's 50% off. @Zell Not sure if I've mentioned it before but 13 Sentinels is supposed to be an incredible visual novel, with light gameplay elements too.

  10. Just got to day two (noon). Man, this game is excellent.

There's nothing more satisfying than passing a skill check that you've got a 40% chance of succeeding. The dialogue is really superb, with a couple of interactions really sticking out (Cuno and the racist Union bloke).

The one downside is the small font on the sub-menu's. I feel like there's a lot to the game that I'm missing out on because of that.

  11. That race was so good. I'm still thinking about it!

It's a real shame Imola is three weeks away. With overtaking so hard there, I really feel like Red Bull need to qualify 1-2 and just control the race from there. The cars seemed closely matched in Bahrain but Max was consistently faster in S2; I imagine they'll maintain a small advantage in those kinds of corners throughout the early races.

Really? I've not read anything about a huge increase in power.

I can't see how you can fit a One X in the Switch's form factor. I'm expecting marginally better than a PS4, if that.

From the Bloomberg reports and other reports around what chipset they'll be using (which come from reliable insiders such as NateDrake over at Era), then we know it's a big increase.

The performance of any console is ultimately dependent on three things: CPU (framerates, AI), RAM (textures, loading, although the latter is more complicated) and GPU (graphical effects, resolution). Last gen home consoles had very weak CPU's because of the technology available at the time. The available chipsets available for the Switch 2 / Pro should easily outperform Xbox One X / PS4 Pro CPU's and by some margin. The raw GPU power will be closer to XBO / PS4 but DLSS means is a gamechanger and should allow for 4K resolution pretty easily. The huge CPU and DLSS GPU buffs should mean that ports of games from last gen consoles should run at least as well as they did on Xbox One X, if not better :)

It's best not to think of this as a 'Pro' but instead an iterative upgrade. A game like Zelda might run at 30 FPS / 720p-900 docked on the OG Switch, but 60 FPS x 4K should be possible thanks to DLSS technology (which is exclusive to Nvidia btw).

They won't make any of these exclusive to a Switch Pro. Enhanced, maybe, but not exclusive.

I imagine this will be the case for 1st party titles until around 2023 or so, at which point the new system will become the baseline model going forward.

From what we know, this is a huge increase in power, essentially going from a console much weaker than the XBO / PS4 to a system much more capable than both. In fact, it's probably going to be closer to the One X / PS4 Pro.

Fully expecting plenty of 3rd party titles to come to it that won't run on the OG. Would love to see Red Dead 2 and Resident Evil 8.

  14. Just finished Spiderman: Remastered which I thought was excellent. I've decided to hold off Miles Morales but was wondering what to play next. Thankfully, Disco Elysium comes out next week which I'm really hyped for. I recall it getting a lot of GOTY nods last year so I'm super stoked to finally play it.

  15. I can't see Liverpool and Klopp splitting after this year. They are the perfect match for each other.

As tough as this year has been results wise, I honestly think that all the team needs is a mental break (i.e. a proper off-season) and for key players to return. Clear out the likes Origi and Shaqiri / Ox and get a couple of additional players in and before you know it, they'll be back to winning ways.

Maybe it's that I'm older now but that trailer looked a bit generic JRPG fantasy. Like, typical Tales fare, the kind of story you'll probably forget soon after it's finished. That voice acting was also very am dram (particularly the narrator).

To be honest, only Tales of Symphonia ever hit home for me, and that's possibly because of the timing of when it came out (when I was a teenager, and there weren't many games filling this niche on the Gamecube when it landed in UK).

I've even played a lot of them - some absolute stinkers (like Tales of Legendia) and some that are generally well regarded that I thought were not really that good (Abyss and Vesperia - although Vesperia was very recent and really showed its age in terms of QoL issues).

I'll wait to see more but I have a feeling that they'll never properly step up their game with the Tales series in terms of plot, characters, and voice acting; it feels destined to keep its very "B movie" RPG feel.

Agreed about Symphonia - it's the only one that really impressed me and got me hooked, despite the cliches. The 60 FPS gameplay certainly helped, but I think it did some cool things with the plot and world building too. I did buy the Vesperia remaster but it was just too slow paced for my liking. I had to stop playing about 15 hours in.

The link to my old post was point-scoring and meant for others' benefit, there was no need to remind me of my own views.

I think your reasons for the dissonance is fair enough. I'd add:

    3. If the Switch Pro comes out at the end of the year, it'll be nearly 5 years after the OG release, which is more than enough time for a spec bump. Especially if it's a modest one. Nintendo have never chased power, so I think those expecting a super-charged console will be disappointed. Their 80 mil install-base is too important to leave out in the cold, so I'm not expecting a big boost in performance, unlike the Pro and the X.

    The 3DS -> New 3DS was a bigger jump than the PS4 -> PS4 Pro. By a considerable margin.

Simply based off of the likely chipset and the fact that we know they can't manufacturer the current Mariko chip for much longer , I'm willing to bet that it's going to be much larger than the above jumps anyway. The 80 million install base will still get games as software will be compatible with both devices (like it is in the Apple / Android ecosystem) but it's going to be a good performance increase. 2-4 years down the line they will turn the new model into the base model imo.

Anyway, let's just wait and see. With devkits going out, I imagine Digital Foundry will do a speculative video by the end of the month, where they pretty much know the final specs but have to phrase it like speculation (like with Series S).

Regarding the whole 'Nintendo don't chase power', that's only true to a certain degree. With N64, GameCube and Switc, they released the powerful piece of hardware they could for their target release price. Even the CPU /GPU combo in the Wii U cost near enough what the PS4's chipset cost Sony. They'll have a manufacturing target price for this new revision (which will certainly replace the current console) and they'll aim to match that as much as possible.

  18. I actually think it's going to be a fairly good upgrade, a bit like going from the N64 to a Dreamcast (as opposed to N64 -> GC). The original Switch will continue to get support for the next 3-4 years but then the new model will become the 'base' model for software going forward.

4K (via DLSS) and a CPU that easily outperforms what the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X can do is fairly likely. The Switch came out in 2017 with a high end 2015 Tegra chip, so a two year old chip now plus DLSS is going to be great.

Happy Birthday! And try out Astro's Playroom first, it's great.

Any PS4 games you're keen to play in upgraded form?

I've actually got a huge PS4 backlog. I pretty much avoided every AAA title from 2018 onwards because my PS4 got far too loud whilst playing.

I've just ordered The Last of Us 2, but I'm going to hold off playing it until it gets a patch.
