With 800 stars expiring this month the soundtrack came along at just the right time! That'll do methinks!

It's got a great premise, and after a whole host of Civ games on Earth this shakes the formula up. Can't wait to see more, and I'm already excited for it!

I'm so glad Nintendo finally released a game in the 'Wars' series over here when they released this originally. While I still prefer the sequel, which managed to improve and tweak all the minor details, the original is still a ridiculously addictive slab of turn-based action.
I hope this sells on the WiiU.

June 6th then? Excellent, as this title has me intrigued. It looks like it has potential, and the previews I've seen have sparked my interest. Hopefully the finished game will turn out as good.

Nice review, and many of the comments are similar to other reviews I've read about the game. With two of the DS's breakout stars in their own game there was the potential to damage the image of either. Thankfully the developers look to have done a great job, with reviews looking to be scoring higher than their individual games!
I can't wait. I've enjoyed the Layton titles, and I am a huge Phoenix Wright fan. Roll on Friday! :-)

It's such a strange game for me, in that the gameplay it offers is really quite basic, but that's essentially the point of it, and it's effect on the gaming industry cannot be understated.
@Dcubed is right that there was additional depth to the game mechanics and it did have a lot of enjoyable Nintendo touches. Essentially though, the game was still quite limited in options, with limited holes in golf, lack of different tennis courts, no option to control your players, only a few 'goals'. There are few games that are immediately as playable though. You have this new control method that's completely different to console gaming before, yet you hand the controller to a person with whatever level of gaming experience and they'll be able to play the game. This alone was a staggering achievement and the way the game spread throughout the world was incredible.
Yes, many people probably only played one Wii game, but this was it. If Nintendo can find another 'Wii Sports' then the WiiU would become a completely different console. Rarely has one game defined a console as much as Wii Sports for the Wii.

There were a whole host of new ideas introduced with this game and a lot of original levels, even for a Mario game. I don't know whether it was because of the zoomed in perspective, slower speed, or because it was a GameBoy title, but for me it's always been too much on the easy side. I enjoyed finding all the secret exits and it was good that Nintendo brought over some of the newer concepts from the console games such as being able to carry turtle shells.
A short & easy game that's still fun to play. Plus as many others have said - it introduced the world to the great anti-hero that is Wario!

I got it and remember it being chaos when used by a mass group of 6th Formers! As Dr. Bob said above, it wasn't without its faults, but was a fun blast. The multiplayer wasn't good enough to displace the likes of Smash Brothers, Perfect Dark, or even Mario Party however.

Ok, those gameplay screenshots look gorgeous. I was with @Cookyman above at 1st, as the trailer was graphically sublime but none of it showed any actual gameplay footage.
We'll see if Rocksteady can add to the excellent gameplay of their previous Batman games, or whether it ends up being the same game with the graphical upgrade. They're saying the right things and the Batmobile offers opportunities. I'm looking forward to the first hands-on impressions.
The only downside: no Wii U support, which is another kicker for Wii U owners.

Once I start I game, I pretty much always finish it.This is why Paper Mario: Sticker Star in particular was a very nasty endeavour of which I dare not speak.
I'm of a similar ilk. I finished the main game and then thought it would be just a short burst to get 100% of the stickers... Eugh, I still have hate in my throat for that long old unrewarding!

The Ghost Trick (DS) demo was cleverly done, as they made a level especially for the demo that didn't actually appear in the full game. It also convinced me to get the game, and I'm so pleased I did!

I'm looking forward to it, and hopefully BBC will show a decent amount. Britain always stands a chance in the Curling, as it gains it's 4-yearly section of media coverage!

One of my favourite gaming series, and I was impressed with how the 3D was used in Dual Destinies. It's been a while since I played them, this will be hard to turn down. Bring it over here Capcom!

That's a fantastic example of giving the fans what they want and a real treat. All those years of finding parts of Hidden Palace zone and the frustration that it was barely playable & now Sega have done this to add to a game that has been released multiple times is generous of them. An excellent secret this!

I doubt the reviews have been particularly harsh. I expect that the majority of decent reviewers have accepted that the graphics will be improved over what is currently available and will simply punish a game if they're not, as opposed to gushing praise if they are, as this is simply the expectations. The gameplay should be what matters and this can be compared with current-gen games. I'm pleased to see that it appears this is indeed what is being done.

It came from nowhere and, while far from perfect, it was a fabulously fun game with many clever touches. I'm jealous of you guys that are late to the party and haven't had an opportunity to play through the game before. Enjoy!

Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)
A fun little diversion from the main Paper Mario series. While I enjoyed the use of stickers, it just all felt a little too streamlined for me. It isn't a patch on the main Paper Mario RPGs. There were a number of clever moments where you could use specific stickers to exploit the weaknesses of the larger enemies. This did lead to a number of difficulty spikes where the enemy was quite simple with the right stickers, but without them the proved frustratingly difficult. The paper sprites looked good in 3D. Fun without being exceptional.

This is a really tough list...
- A Link To The Past
- Oracle of Ages / Seasons (definitely need to play both for the full experience)
- Link's Awakening
- Phantom Hourglass
- Minish Cap
- Spirit Tracks
- The Legend of Zelda
- Zelda II: Adventure of Link
You can't really go too far wrong with any of them. I wasn't a fan of Zelda II, and both the NES games are incredibly tough. I'm not sure whether you'd put Four Swords Adventure in the list, as it's so different to the others (levels instead of an over world for instance). Going through the list again though - what a great series!

I'm holding out for a Ogre Battle 64 re-release on the Virtual Console. I loved my N64 games, but this and Hybrid Heaven were two games I really wanted to play but passed me by somehow.
Oh, and although I doubt the licence exists with DNA / Rockstar, but a Spacestation Silicon Valley release would be fun to play!
-
I've just gone and bought the original (thankfully on XBox after reading this!). Can't wait to play it now. It's also one of the few games that 'Edge' magazine gave an illustrious 10 to!

It's a tricky one. I did it a couple of years ago so we could save money, but we only ended up staying for just over 3 months as we went and found a place. Her parents were much more accommodating than yours though it sounds!
I'd suggest simple wins such as offering / doing tasks before you're asked, even if they're as simple as making drinks. A lot of what they're asking sounds pretty unreasonable and you shouldn't feel guilty if you've already made plans to do things. They could ask you first when you're available, so not your fault. It's hard because it is their house, and so their rules. You're a guest and so you will need to respect their habits. However, they shouldn't be taking the biscuit - confide with your other half and sometimes you will need to say no, or explain why you can't do something.
It'll all be worth it when you finally move out!

Congrats Rez! That's fantastic news! She looks a pretty lady too - the boy done good! :-)
Having got married just 2 months ago you're going to have a huge amount of stuff to organise, but try not to get to stressed with it and try to enjoy the planning as much as possible. Best wishes to you both!

How successful was Monster Hunter 3 /Tri over here? With the holes in the release schedule as well, surely this has to come out over here!?!

I remember reading about the craze in Japan and showing my friends at school an article in N64 Magazine about it and how popular it was going to become. Needless to say I got completely ribbed by my mates who couldn't believe something as bizarre-looking and Japanese as Pokemon would translate well over here!
I ended up importing Blue from America as it wasn't coming out In the UK for a few months. I thought it would be good, but I wasn't too sure, especially with it only being a GameBoy game with the Color (still hate the American spelling!) being out. It didn't take long for me to be hooked though, line & sinker! I loved it, and enjoyed it even more when it came out over here and I finally had friends to play and trade with. Happy days indeed! :-)
Review Scores
in General Gaming Discussion
Posted
I actually prefer the "out of 100" scoring system. The most important aspect for whoever is reviewing the game has a definition of what the scoe bands actually mean (I.e., is 50 an 'average' game or is '70' deemed average). I understand that there's minimal difference between a 71 and a 72. Weirdly, I've always imagined that the difference between a 92 and 93 say, is bigger than 52 and 53. When a game scores over 80 or 90 it becomes much tougher to distinguish whether one game is more fun than another.
It's more about trusting the reviewer. Magazines such as Edge and Famitsu have great reputations for the honesty and accuracy of their reviews, and being especially good at understanding how many enjoyment the average gamer will get from a game. I used to read N64 Magazine and found their review scores tended to mirror my own enjoyment, whereas I couldn't trust the old Nintendo Official Magazine, which struggled with giving games (especially Nintendo /Rare games) less than 90 (here's looking at you Starfox Adventures).
I'm not a fan of re-reviewing games following additional content, as I'd rather it was all out at the beginning. Saying that, I do appreciate that DLC is commonplace so there should be a way of identifying if a game has actually been improved following DLC, bug fixes, etc.
