I have been Splatoon free for 2 months and one day. I um.. I may have clocked up over 500 hours on that particular game. It could be closer to 600. But actually you should ask @are1981, pretty sure he must have hit 4 figures for hours spent on the game! The turf wars really annoyed me with not being able to switch gear, particularly when playing with a friend, as often you'd lose the friend for a match or two (literally unable to find them as online in the friends list). I got pretty good at switching out for particular gear though, and in the end could generally tweak my loadout and get back to the lobby in time for the next match. That may have been helped by the drop off of users after the end of splatfests. I think the main things I want from splatoon 2 would be single player to be fleshed out a lot... it was one of the best part of the game. Also co-op single player mode - like 2/3/4.. maybe even 8p co-op levels would be awesome (online and local play enabled). Beyond that... having some quick way to switch load outs without dropping out the lobby would be nice!! Splatoon 2 isn't enough to hook me on it's own yet though... Also thanks rummy.. I'm fighting the urge to jump back into splatoon now

Face reality... they're coming to Switch first WWhd in 2018, then TPhd in 2019 with a Zelda BotW follow up in 2020..21. also on Switch2. 2022.

I'd say if you choose to trade in, not down your Wii U number code bit, just in case. And make sure you unlink the NNID or w/e they want to have done! don't want some randomer getting all your eshop stuff/deleting your NNID completely.

Same team though. It's basically the 3ds with gamepad analogue sticks. Considering how much this thing packs in, it really does make me wonder why they felt the need to make the gamepad so chunky...I can only assume it was to reduce the cost but... yeah :/ Imagine if the Wii U pad had been like the switch, just minus the detachable controllers and actual console inside. Would have looked so much nicer!
-
To be fair, with the switch coming out in a few weeks, and Wii U sales being as sky high as they are... this is a lot more credible. Even the last 4 times were credible :P Probably they have enough to last the year, I imagine Wii U sales must have dived off a (admittedly not very tall) cliff after the March 3rd date was announced for the Switch....

Although wouldn't the one joy-con have a gyro in there? Could use the gyro for looking (not a clue how easy that would be to implement and use though!)
-
That reasoning would have been welcomed from me though... sending a message to nintendo that analogue triggers are wanted. But the message wasn't that. I think the dev genuinely just wasn't sure about what they were talking about and was thinking about a single joycon being used... which presumably would not be the case. I mean, even a single joy con isn't too terrible if you think about it... about on par with a snes pad right?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Pestneb replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Well also possibly balancing out powerful items etc. It may take 3 hours to defeat the boss with starter gear, but take a 10 minute detour and you can beat him in 2.40 Exaggerating to make the point that maybe in this instance the most direct route may not be the fastest. -
in burnout on the gc, it was fairly easy to hold a steady speed with the analogue shoulder buttons... although I suppose you are right, for the most part in that game the analogue wasn't really so necessary most of the time.
-
It would be good if there was a pressure sensor in one of the shoulder pads on each joycon at least - with the balance board presumably Nintendo have a little experience on that front....

Glad they have Zelda anniversary stuff. Used my expiring coins for Jan/Feb on some of those. I don't really want it, but it's basically that or nothing so! The theme looks good, if expensive. cost about £3 of platinum coins I think! I'm not too hopeful for interesting deals in the next few months once the switch comes out... I wonder when Wii U deals will disappear altogether...

ok... I'd be playing with both joycons in their respective hands, with my hands rested on my lap... so no issue on stability, @Rummy the Wii U pro pad is about 200g... afaik the joy cons weight 101g together, so only 50g a piece.. I don't see them causing masses of issues on the weight issue. Also the Wiimotes had no analogue, lacked 2 shoulder buttons and the button placement was very widely spaced out. holding a wiimote in one hand, I can't imagine reaching the dpad, A button and 1/2 buttons quickly and easily. the nunchucks obviously lacked face buttons. So I think there are key differences between the two that make joycons a better controller for traditional games. The only way I can see this being an issue is if Nintendo were to constrain design... say "in handheld mode you MUST incorporate touchscreen... in table top you MUST use motion controls... in home console mode you MUST use traditional controls." The statement of letting devs do what they want (to heavily paraphrase.. it was something about EA not adding random motion controls etc.) suggests to me they wouldn't do that though.
-
I still don't get why this renders using two joycons in desktop mode redundant... is the point that some people aren't able to input controls that slowly (from what you guys were saying I was imagining something somewhat more complex and frantic somehow) if both hands are holding the joycons independently of each other? it's not like the right hand is needing to access the controls on the left side or vice-versa. It's not like there are inputs that are no longer accessible when the joy cons are separated. Are they actually THAT hard to grip and use when they aren't attached to the grip/main console?
-
I haven't personally played them in depth. Would you be able to describe maybe a typical sequence of gamepad inputs required? I'm thinking maybe entering a corner or maybe a chicane might require the a fairly large amount of inputs and convey to an extent the intricacies that I am completely missing here! Unless the point was steering wheel > any gamepad? was that not for the Wii U? the Wii originally natively supported GC controllers.... And the Wii U has the procontroller. I think the issue with wiimotes was motion controls not being as precise. Allegedly the Switch tech is a step up from motion plus, so presumable a level of greater accuracy mitigates that to some extent...

See I was thinking of the joy cons as a game pad.. not like MK wii motion steering wheel. I've never held a joycon, but a wiimote for the face buttons, and a nunchuck for analogue sticks, they feel fine. As long as the joycons allow me to grip them as securely as the wiimote and nunchuck both did, I don't see myself having issues getting quick access to all the buttons. But you have put another item on my "before I buy a switch" checklist - how do the joycons feel in my hands when separated from the main unit. in terms of a steering wheel type experience, I'd be kinda pissed off if I was in a plane and the passenger next to me was holding a steering wheel for a few hours of the flight to play their racing game... that experience is surely one for the home, no? Personally I would want a wider range of games, because I tend to be a one console gamer. I want unique and fun games for the switch, but I also want a reasonable amount of other games. I'm not buying a second console for 3/4 games.

I'm not entirely sure what controls there are... but accelerator, brake, steering, gear up, gear down, headlights, fog lights? do they have users use a virtual clutch?? accelerate. footbrake. handbrake. gear up. gear down. headlights toggle on/off. foglights on/off. left analogue steering. If they want a clutch fine. I see a need for 8 inputs so far... there are 2 shoulders on each joy con as I can see, so 4 total(someone seemed to say there was only one earlier?), 8 face buttons (ignoring home, share - and +) and 2 analogue sticks. afaik PS4 and XB1 have... 4 shoulder buttons, 8 face buttons (counting dpad as 4 face buttons) and 2 analogue sticks. So I'm kinda baffled on the input. I'm not totally familiar with all the specifics, the only thing I can imagine is if there are no analogue shoulder pads, I could understand them not then wanting to have either 100% on/off braking or accelerating. But surely the gyro could be used to a degree... press R2 and you accelerate, gyro relates the strength of that acceleration, press L2 and it relates braking. If you really want to brake and accelerate simultaneously... well that tends to be messy anyway. Maybe it would be better having the joy cons separated in that instance As far as tabletop = 1 joycon... sure for a muppet. You simply take your switch with two joycons... pull out the kickstand and remove both joycons. I don't understand how there would be a problem here... I can see why they would prefer analogue shoulders though, quicker to port things over satisfactorily. But as said, if the switch does well the effort will become worth it. Right now I can see why it isn't.

only 400g actually If I wanted to I could get it for £255ish (Amazon.Fr) but I think I'll wait, it's already that cheap.. most of the games I want for it are on Wii U so hopefully around November there will be bundles £250ish with a game (hopefully odyssey?) and I'll bite (if everything sounds good for me )
-
When's your flight? I am in a similar position, the switch comes just a few hours too late. Since the main games that interest me are on the Wii U I guess I'll hold out. Hopefully near November I'll be able to get one http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/12/random_nintendo_gives_away_3ds_consoles_on_plane_to_promote_super_mario_maker How sweet it would be if they did this with the switch on one of my flights One can dream right?
-
I guess the joy cons (or whole pad) could be tilted, with the angle replicating the relevant pedal. but if it needs regular readjustment to find "0" then it's not so workable.

I'm trying to complete puzzle swap... I thought I'd manage it, but since spotpass died in the UK it became tough, even more so since moving to France - I've had 1 street pass in the last year (excluding my nephews when they come to visit). The rest of the games I'll get to once I have all the blue puzzle swap pieces (I'm guessing the pink pieces will never be found )

I don't think that was the aim of the nes mini. Nintendo could easily have placed most of the nes library on the thing, provided long enough cords AND produced more of the product. I think the main aim was to raise awareness, get people interested in the vc and add to reasons to buy a switch. Look at the price they charge for a single vc nes game on wii U, I think it really was just an exercise in drumming up interest, mindshare etc.

voltage is pretty important. it's like saying "how long will it take to get 5 people to a city 5 miles away? The vehicle can travel at 15 miles per hour." easy enough, 20 minutes. Unless the vehicle can only carry 1 person at a time. in which case it is 3 hours. Similar with voltage. But you are probably right, charging is likely to be at 5v (especially looking at the gamepad and 3ds). But I'm just impressed that the switch will be running on less than 1/3 the power a Wii U draws.
-
yeah.. it's like wii u.. not all games support wii controllers, not all support pro-controllers. I imagine joycon "conventional" controller will be the norm, with devs being allowed to use separated joycons/touchscreen controls should they so wish. Also in terms of inputs.. do the joy cons have fewer than other consoles??
-
surely we need to know the voltage as well? Wii U is 15V*5a wii u gamepad is 4.75V*1.6A 3DS is 4.6V*900mA a battery for the Wii U with that power consumption would supply 75W right? that would require around 5000mah as far as I can tell? and I think that would only work for an hour. So the Switch seems to work at Wii U levels (maybe a notch above) for three hours... very impressive considering the Wii U was already very power efficient, doesn't have the screen included, nor does it have speakers... I presume my maths is very wrong here I'm too tired to go back and work this all out again, but if 4350mah was the right figure, 15v at 5A should charge it in an hour. Or a 5V 5A charge in 3 hours... or so....

But a good time for Nintendo to have ditched regions...
