Also in that gamecube joycon mockup, surely the right joycon analogue needs to be yellow....
-
but since they have digital codes in stores... surely they can cut out the physical copy costs for both themselves AND stores... leaving the profit margin for stores?

Oh no, that was my first thought. I quickly substituted the keyboard for a screen... and it just looked wrong. I guess if the dpad and c stick sat slightly over the screen it works a tiny bit better (10 seconds in mspaint but.. basic idea). Still don't think it looks good, but could be sweet for vc games.
-
If they did that it could be cool if they did themed joycons that came with a vc game included. Looking at the GC controller though, I don't see how they could get a GC joy con that would feel right. if they adapt the design (fairly significantly) they could do it, but if they essentially replaced the central portion of a GC pad with the switch, it would look far less slick. The best I can imagine would be like a nunchuck, with the dpad closer to being directly beneath the left analogue stick and with the 4 face buttons on the right rotated round the A, so the be is beneath the a, y and x buttons both rotated anticlockwise round the A by about 30 degrees so the layout is more of a "Y". Not sure how that would feel though. I think supporting the gc adapter wouldn't be a terrible move, but as mentioned it would reduce the portability of several games. maybe a Joy-con + will be released in a couple of years with analogue shoulders to coincide with GC releases. Oh, as well as UHD rumble

I'm a people. Tablets on the market fall short for me and just plain don't interest me, I find android a pain in the ass and apple products are overpriced. Right now, in my current situation, I can't justify spending £300 on a gaming device. £300 on a gaming device AND a tablet... that makes it, in my mind, £140 tablet and a £160 gaming device... which I could justify. I'd be after it and Zelda switch at launch. But £220 for Zelda and a switch. Not so interesting. The browser etc isn't a usp, but it would have increased the usefulness and therefore the value of the switch. Right now Nintendo don't seem to need a browser to sell 1 more switch to me though so.. good for them.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-38875197 I didn't even realise this was possible? Is this an actual 3d hologram? it looks like he is on a projecting platform on the stage, but.. this is pretty impressive imo... I've seen a still hologram in the past but didn't realise we'd gotten to a stage where a 3d moving hologram can be projected in real time, and again, not with that sort of clarity.

I wouldn't see a problem with 100CC being added for battle mode though. maybe only with up to 4 players though. And reserve 150CC for no more than 2 players? That's a point actually, presumably deluxe has 200CC?

Of course it won't they have 95 Wii U vc nes games...51 snes games...18 N64, 71 GBA, 30 ds, 5 turbografx... 33 Wii games, if you count those. averages at 1 a week which isn't too encouraging. I'd actually find it kinda cool if they re-released the games as they released on the actual console back in the day... Nes games spanning from October 18 1985 through to May 1995....which would perhaps be a bit long for the console lifespan :P But maybe have two runs, one starting in 1985 and the other from 1990. Personally I'd quite like if they aimed to get about 140 nes games, 150 snes games, 80 N64 games, 130 GC games and maybe 300 Wii games They already have 2 Wii U games, so maybe they could pop and other 130 or so. that would be an almost 1000 game "VC". If they actually develop a standard emulator so they can get game code across simply, that would be ace too and allow them to move games across straight away. More realistically I hope that they have at least half the wii u library ready (and the most popular half) so it can move across with those who purchased already. It would be nice if they got a head start though. I hope the online subscription free game will be one that we haven't had yet. I mean, if it is 1 nes game and 1 snes game each month... that would be insanely slow! I would hope the rate would be closer to 4 nes games and 4 snes games each month.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Pestneb replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
haha, the main reason I have that date is so my Wii U is 5 years old when it is replaced :P But yeah, advantage on the cost front, and in the even of a drought of games I am protected (I haven't had issues with the Wii U because I picked it up late so always had a good enough back library in times of drought... and there were a good number of bargains too!) -
As you say, they have arms and I suspect a few others. But look at the biggest online titles for Wii U. MK8 owned by about 50%, Smash and splatoon by around 33% of Wii U owners. MK8 deluxe and splatoon 2 are already a big draw for online gamers. you've mentioned Arms, that and games like it are the sort of games I expect will pick up the slack on the online front. but the big headliners, I would say they are the remakes and sequels of those three franchises. MK8, a few years later MK9, SSB4, followed by SSB5 and splatoon 2, followed by a sequel. 6 titles... of which 2 have been committed to 2017 already. dripping them in holds the service up, I think Nintendo may finally realise putting everything into launch and then leaving gamers with nothing new toward the latter years of the consoles life doesn't do them any good in the long term. I 100% agree they need a number of titles, certainly in the lead up to the subscription charges, to demonstrate commitment, that online really is "the air that [they] breathe" and also that the product is value for money. I just don't think those titles should be too full of heavy weights. The promise of the next smash, mario kart and splatoon titles is already there, once they've been shoved out into the wild that's it.
-
I didn't mean exclusively 1 online title per 6 months, but 1 flagship title. Arms is more of a filler title I would suspect.. as in I wouldn't be shocked to hear online is quiet after a couple of months. MK8 has legs, same with splatoon and smash. Those I would say are the big 3. It would be a mistake imo to release titles bunched up, have lots of activity and then have it die down... Mk8 is there to get players used to being online.. splatoon to hook people in (I'd imagine subs kicking in a month after splatoon releases). Maybe they'll go to DLC to give Mk8 deluxe/splatoon longevity, and release big hitters more once a year. 2018 maybe smash4, 2019 mk9, 2020 splatoon 3 and 2021 smash 5? Nintendo have said about spacing titles to avoid long droughts. I think we see that with zelda and mario. a good 6 months space between single player focused games.. and I suspect it will be a similar story with MK8 and splatoon 2. Of course there will be other titles to fill out those 6 months, but they will be new/minor IP's. I'm not too confident year 1 will be packed with big hitters, say Metroid as a single player title (probably 3rd biggest after Mario and Zelda I would guess?) and DK. A luigi's mansion, Pikmin title, Pokemon kinda sits there (almost). if they release those titles about once every 6 months it would hold momentum better than releasing them with 2 months between them. They have limited capacity to develop games and need to manage releases, both for offline focused games and online ones. I imagine you are hoping Switch will see some 3rd party support to help Nintendo fill out their roster too. 4 games a year (big hitters) is one every 3 months... filled with some 1, 2 switch style games and arms etc. also indies (snipperclips style) and hopefully 3rd parties (FIFA... maybe once or even twice in the consoles life ) We shall see in anycase.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Pestneb replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I may not even be looking for one that early. November 2018 is my hold out date.. I can say I've stuck to my guns if I don't have it by that date I'm fairly confident I can find a good deal by then, and there should be a compelling library of games too -
Yeah I do have a small list of games I would love on GC VC.. I only ever go for games I never played before as a rule. Luigi's mansion Paper Mario TTYD Star fox adventures Final fantasy CC Pikmin 2 Battalion wars Custom Robo N64 blast corps Snes star fox Tales of phantasia top gear Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time Nes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project Excite bike RC Pro Am Nintendo World cup Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers Yoshi's Cookie Donkey Kong Jr. Dig Dug 21 games I'd love but... besides those I've just realised I have 0 interest in vc now :| Also pretty confident that I'll never see at least 8 of those even if Nintendo had the will to get them on vc

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Pestneb replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Amazon.fr have the grey one available at 300 euro's. You'd need an address for delivery in France though. and to then arrange to collect it I missed out on the 340 euros with Zelda (almost biting price for me) but I'm hoping for a £250 with game price before I go for it! -
Actually thinking about it, I could see Animal crossing being ready - there was no Wii U version released.... it could come pretty quickly. yeah. scarcity probably won't help drive Wii U prices too long, the GC is super cheap, now is probably the time to bite for Wii U sales. Personally keeping mine for keeps, I still play my GC from time to time, and it will save on me double dipping on Nintendo's Nostalgia drive. Planning on building a gaming den in my next place, not got a full compliment of consoles, but I figure I have enough. The Wii U will fit in nicely enough there alongside my Wii and probably (hopefully) a Switch with a Nes tucked in there for special occasions :P

Looking at Nintendo's release strategy, I think they are looking to drip in online every 6 months or so. MK8 Deluxe for the free "lure" period. I suspect Splatoon for the first 6 months. SSB4 Deluxe probably April 2018 Then I struggle to see the next online big title they have... Maybe Pokemon October 2018? :P Mario strikers, Splatoon 3, Mario Kart 9 and SSB5 are probably in development. Who knows, maybe a Metroid federation force game? I remember thinking in metroid prime, presumably sometimes the marines succeed or at least don't fail spectacularly. It could be a good spin off at least.
-
variations on Wii U fair enough, but the wording of pre-order is equally true of the switch. Why don't you check the 3 variations not checked?
-
That doesn't necessarily follow though. If I bought MK8, SSB4, splatoon and each had £5 on it to cover online. I play for 20 hours on each game. £15 60 hours Or if I bought splatoon, paid £5 and played it for 60 hours... £5 for 60 hours.... so do they adjust to £1.5 for the three game player.... or to £15 top up to cover the 1 game player....
-
while it wouldn't apply to me, it would be nice if they give Wii U owners a free months access to online if they own that months vc game already... I am hoping that they'll release 52 nes/snes games year 1, 52 snes/N64 games the following year, then N64/GC, GC/Wii and finally Wii/Wii U. It would be cool if they had demo versions of upcoming games as well. Not just 1st party titles, but each month have a focus on an upcoming game. A demo of the game, switch theme, discounts on any related vc titles along the lines of the zelda week etc. exclusive to online subscribers. that would be quite cool and would all be a promotion for that game too. It would be nice if they had enough big games to cover it, but look at shovel knight for example, they had that free theme for people who bought it early enough.. and several demo's have come out so... yeah.
-
But Nintendo uses that money to provide security etc. Have you got evidence of Nintendo specifically laying off older staff? otherwise about why you bought up random economics
-
Does this apply to Nintendo though? I agree that profit margins can seem obscene, but it's more how a company uses the profit. For example in your company X, if they had a line that was no longer making money, would you approve more if company X kept all those employees, made a loss for a few years in a row and then laid off the entire staff and closed down because they were bankrupt? I agree it's not good if companies fire older employees just because younger staff are cheaper, but this is far more of a "general" board discussion than a Nintendo one....
-
Obviously. Hardware is one thing, but employing a team of CAPABLE individuals who are able to keep it ticking over is actually a fairly substantial cost. Also the hardware isn't a one time thing, as the network comes under additional strain (something one of those capable individuals would spot) new hardware would be needed. There is the cost of running the servers (they don't run on pixie dust) and cooling. When old hardware fails (it happens often enough) that incurs a cost and they need to purchase specific hardware that will do the right job and perform well enough

Suppose they charged to enter say, Alton Towers.. oh wait. they do. Ok, how about cinema entr.. oh, they do. Ok so how about those parks you talk about.. oh yeah they do charge for that. Hmm. Ok how about internet access, how out of line if we... oh wait, we do have to pay ISP's. Hmm. Ok what about facebook? Oh yeah they sell our personal data to "focus" adverts. hmm. You know, when you go to work (assuming of course you do)... have you ever once said to your boss "hey, you know that salary? well you know what, fprget about it this month, it costs me nothing to work, it would be pure greed for me to take this money." I suspect not. I agree in some ways that they could put the charge in the cost of games (I suspect they did so with the Wii U) however there are flaws with that. Take me. 500 hours + on splatoon. For £1.50? Another person... 5 hours... for £1.50.... then they bought MK8.. another £1.50 for 5 hours... so they buy 100 games, pay £150 for online access over 500 hours, while I've paid £1.50 for mine.... Like a voting system there is no way of charging that won't incur instances of injustice. Also on PC front... didn't WoW require payment each month? My main issue with the subscription is if I fancy playing a game say on monday. Last day of January. If I paid for a Month (or if it is purely annual only, the year) would my 1 day of January count as a whole month? would they give me that day free? Would I, if I subscribe on the 14th of February, get to enjoy February and March's "free" vc game, or only February's? or only March's? Interested to see what is what on that front! As for the fee.. it isn't something I'm ecstatic about, but it is a nominal fee, and tbh the way I play vc games, it is basically a free game for me. so I would probably look at it as a vc taster subscription, rather than online sub. In all honesty it is an added cost barrier for me though, looking at £20 a year over 5 years adds £100 to the console cost for me.
-
His face.. so full of joy and happiness! I think they should release it as is for Wii U owners, free of charge.
-
I think it depends what is coming with it. Personally I think my main gaming issue is due to my own connection (it's great a lot of the time but then randomly becomes terrible, 56k style sometimes). I would like to say it's not worth the investment for me, but as I sank 500 hours into splatoon, I suspect that the £25 would pretty quickly pay for itself. Having said that, I think I spent all of 2 hours (at a push) online on my Wii U this year so... I will consider carefully! If they have a £7.50 3 month subscription for example, I think I would be more likely to go for than a £25 yearly one... we'll see. It is looking unlikely I will be able to justify a Switch this year anyway so I have plenty of time to assess the facts
