  1. The Best Gaming Music Ever.

30 hours into CrossCode and I've just heard this gem of a tune: Gives some Golden Sun vibes among other games.
  2. PC Gaming Discussion

It got overshadowed by the Nintendo Direct, the State of Play and the Tokyo Game Show all happening around the same time, so I'm just going to leave this here, Freedom Planet 2 recently came out on Steam. Of interest to @Jonnas but also to anyone who like Sonic games because this game has been getting glowing user reviews from those who've played it. https://store.steampowered.com/app/595500/Freedom_Planet_2/ There's currently a 10% discount on Steam. It isn't coming to Switch until next year though, or any other console for that matter. The game has been in development for 7 years. The guy who made Sonic Mania, Christian Whitehead, designed the engine behind this game and its probably the closest you're ever going to get to a Sonic Mania 2, even moreso than Origins. Its about more than twice the size of its predecessor with even going fast through it setting you back 9 hours or so.
  3. Your Gaming Diary 2022

It's been a while since my last update here hasn't it? Well I've played a multitude of games. I've finished Celeste and its instantly moved into my top 5 Indie Games I've played. Felt the second half in particular was especially strong. With that done, I moved onto another indie game immediately... and pretty much loved the soundtrack from there. I started with CrossCode, which is a top down Zelda styled action RPG set in an MMo. I understand this is a hard sell to people, but you really shouldn't overlook this game. I started it because of it being listed as one of those underrated gems and after starting it I can immediately see why. This game feels great to play even if I'm absolutely awful at the combat and the fact that its set in an MMO means it is constantly poking fun at the genre with its dialogue, which is very well written, even for a silent protagonist with a canonical reason as to why she's silent. But yeah, this game's awesome so far, even if I think the story is dragging its feet a bit with the whole "game within a game" thing. The writing is pretty solid overall though and it really feels like the 2D Zelda game I haven't played in ages. I've just wrapped up the bunny chase in Autumn's Fall and about to start my first Raid in the game. A concept I will be completely lost on having no actually played any real MMO RPGs, only single player MMO styled ones like FFXII and Xenoblade. Speaking of Xenoblade, my playthrough of CrossCode was sharp interrupted by the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I intended to juggle both of them but in the end Xenoblade 3 was so good I decided to focus on it. I won't post too much spoilerly stuff and will stick to story tweets, but here goes: Which itself is a misspelling of "Territorial Rotbart! https://twitter.com/GenericAperson/status/1556992194036150273?s=20&t=mo-tfptTxS98L_67gZnVCQ I did think Elden Ring was going to be my Game of the Year this year but Xenoblade 3 comes in and says "hold on a moment" and I think Xenoblade 3 might be my game of the year now. This game was so good, the story was great, the world map was so expansive, far beyond what you're required to do and the soundtrack was amazing as always. Somehow this game kept getting better when I thought it was already really good, which is the sign of a classic. It really gave me those classic RPG vibes, this is the best Xenoblade game since the original easily. Is it better than Xenoblade 1? I still don't know yet. I did have an issue with how Elden Ring fell away in its latter stages and while Xenoblade 3 does that a bit too its not anywhere near the same extent, so Xenoblade 3 is my Game of the Year. BUT WAIT! That's not all I played this past two months. A couple of free to play games I decided to download for different reasons. The first was Multiversus. Having played a fair bit of Rivals of Aether I've really gotten more into the platform fighter genre and since I have a friend who might be interested in something like this I decided to also pick it up. The other free game may surprise you considering I criticised this game last year but... wanting a more up to date football game but not wanting to fork out for one I downloaded eFootball.after its 2023 update. After one year of patches surely the problems must have been fixed right? One thing I will say is that its definintely playable now and the players don't look like complete trash. But there are issues Edit mode is apparently coming soon but to mobile first... OK. So, still not amazing and some basic features are rather lacking from this game but maybe eventually this game will do a No Man's Sky and be good. A couple of other games left, Rivals of Aether, obviously where work on Yooka and Laylee is really coming along, I'm redoing the character and am about 80% of the character is done, still at least 1-3 months away from finishing. The other is Soulcalibur VI where I have finally filled all 100 custom character slots. Given the amount of Indie games I've been into lately all my slots were filled with indie game characters:
  4. The Best Gaming Music Ever.

So much good music in Xenoblade 3, its hard to really highlight it all, if I had to go with one... I couldn't. But I will at least post this here That piano swell is amazing. I've also progressed more in CrossCode and this game's soundtrack continues to deliver.
  5. There are quite a few games which I've put down only to return to later. I think my most notable example was Spider-Man 2 on Gamecube where I got up to Chapter 14 only to be stuck on the Warehouse fight for ages. I started the game back in 2004, it was in 2018 however when I finally beat the game. Actually, 2018 and 2020 were main "clear the backlog" years where I went back and finished games I'd for one reason or another put down. During that time I finished Golden Sun (and then started and played its sequel to completion) finished Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and The Two Thrones, even buying Warrior Within to play between, finally finished Majora's Mask, played Metal Gear Solid 2 to the end to its completion after owning it for 11 years, finished Dragon Quest IX a whole decade after buying it and finally put Dark Souls down for three years before returning to beat it during early 2021. It was good timing too, it left me fresh for Elden Ring when that arrived.

  7. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (29th July 2022)

I have finished Chapter 5. How does this game keep getting better?
  8. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (29th July 2022)

Got really addicted to this game and powered through the story, I am now on Chapter 5... oh boy! Can safely say that if the pervious Xenoblade games were on the restraining order in how deep Takahashi was allowed to go it feels like the band aid has been completely stripped off and the they simply went for it. I'm going to admit that the identity of a certain character wasn't really a surprise in the end while the same time it also was.
  9. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (29th July 2022)

Playing through this game at the moment, currently on Chapter 3, its pretty great so far. I was worried that having 6 party members would make things overkill but removing the ability for anyone other than healers to revive party members fixes an issue where the class was just not outright useful enough in previous games. If you still don't like them, you can just not run with it. I got another class for Noah from one of the Heroes and I immediately switched to it as it was my favourite class from the original game, nice to be able to play that here.

    Monolith pls.
  12. The Best Gaming Music Ever.

Started playing CrossCode recently and I know its an RPG and all that but... ...dang, this music is awesome!
  13. They only announced three waves so far and it looks like the third one has already passed. Still, I'm going to give up hope just yet.
  14. Well seems like badges have already sold out. Pokemon Company just sprung that on people like a month before it all happened and now there's none left. I hope they get some more stock in, I will be trying every morning to see if I can get any.
  15. Your Gaming Diary 2022

So after being unable to get Omori on PS5, I could have possibly got it on Switch, but for various reasons decided not to. After running into a dead end with Meat Boy, I decided to forgo putting it off and went and swapped one precision platformer for another, starting Celeste. I should be able to finish this game pretty soon to be honest, not sure if I'm going to do the extra levels or the additional chapters but I might do. In terms of progress, I have just finished The Mirror Temple, so next up is Chapter 6. After that is finished I have also bought another indie game (really on the indie train now). I have purchased the RPG CrossCode which is supposed to be really good, has some Zelda elements to it too.
  16. Hollow Knight: Silksong

If I had to guess, it won't be out until next year.
  17. Sonic Frontiers (8th November 2022)

Internet has been blowing up over this... and not necessarily in a good way. Honestly, Sega's handling of this game has been poor from a marketing point of view, it seems like they are intentionally making the game look bad. Is it a bad game? Not really the place to be able to tell just yet if I'm honest. Conceptually open world Sonic game is an amazing idea and being able to run through blaze through open fields at blinding speed sounds really fun. There's a level in Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart that was wide open and let you zoom about with rocket boots and that really felt like what Sonic Frontiers as a game should be. But its just difficult to have much faith in Sonic Team to make good games anymore. Maybe Frontiers will buck the trend. The only Sonic-likes are in the indie space so by default the originator should be the standard setter. The fact that these indies and fan games are favorably comparable to the official stuff is both a great thing for the indies but also damning on Sonic Team who with a much bigger budget and greater resources *should* have the most polished game of this type.

I hear this Omori game that released this week on Switch is supposed to be very good. Though, its also something of a horror RPG and very much an adult game so there is that...
  19. Playstation 5 Console Discussion

So Omori was supposed to come out on all consoles yesterday. However, despite the fact that the Xbox and Switch got it (the Switch in some regions) the game is mysteriously absent on the Playstation despite the fact that it was supposed to come out yesterday...
  20. Your Gaming Diary 2022

After two and a half months... I have finally finished Elden Ring. The highlights of the last month of Twitter playing the game were certainly interesting... Still modding Rivals of Aether on the side but going over previous projects to improve quality and taking my time over things. It'll be a while before the next one is ready. I'm planning on moving on to Super Meat Boy next. I still need to finish that game and I got it back in 2013...
  21. Elden Ring (25th February 2022)

I REALLY struggled with that fight quite a lot. It forced me to leave Volcano Manor and go out to find the Mimic Tear in order to be able to beat it. Now I'm in the lategame and am on my way to go after the last Great Runes.
  22. Your Gaming Diary 2022

Been quite quiet on these forums revcently and not all of it has been due to Elden Ring. But yes, I'm still playing Elden Ring and I'm still not anywhere near done yet. This game is ridiculous in its scope, to the point that I've found three entirely optional areas that are absolutely huge. In terms of progress I'm on Level 89 now with four Great Runes and currently going for the fifth one. I'm in Leyndell, Royal Capital and the enemies in here are all really strong. My armour options are quickly becoming outdated and I'm craving some decent mid tier armour. The fact you can't upgrade your armour in this game is something I am sorely missing. However I've picked up a few neat goodies that are significantly better than what I had before. I'd been using the Raya Lucaria Soldiers as my main Spirit Ashes but now I'm using the Mimic Tear. For just 660HP I get an exact copy of myself and since I'm using the Nightrider Flail, if we attack the same enemy at the same time that bleed buildup increases rapidly and we do so much damage to bosses in the process. This really helped as for a long time I was stuck on the Godskin Noble. With the Mimic Tear however we absolutely annihilated it. I then went and beat Rykard and... the fight is cool don't get me wrong but in a game where you're given so many options and encouraged to customise, suddenly restrcting those options for just one fight and requiring you to use a specific weapon? Not a fan really. I wouldn't have much of an issue if the options were already limited but this is a game that encourages you to really carve your own path and your own upgrades. This boss fight concept really clashes with that as a whole unfortunately. I did die a few times trying to use my normal setup before finding out that the weapon they want you to use shoots a big gust of wind from long range for that fight only to help you fight the boss. Leyndell is also a bit of a maze. I've got my Keen Nightrider Flail up to +18 now and my Brass Shield is up to +16. At this point, so many Smithing stones are useless to me now, only ones that are Level 6 or higher are any use and 7 in particular is needed to level up my Flail. I found one in Neskell but haven't found any others just yet. Aside from that? Spent a lot of time in Rivals of Aether but most of it was simply to patch a character several times over after stern criticism and glitches were found. Distracted me from progress in Elden Ring quite a bit but now I'm moving towards making a video on Rivals to show off some extra features. For example, someone made a Pit which has the same Palutena's Guidance as it does in Smash Bros, with the option to be supported by custom Workshop characters so I really want to be able to show some of these, even if they are all fan written. I'm currently compiling the video footage and making an intro for the video.
  23. Your Gaming Diary 2022

OK so I have made major progress in Elden Ring. I have not only beaten Margit but also beaten the next major boss in the game, Goderick. I am now Level 35 and the Jellyfish Summon has been of great help. As was Nephil against Goderick. As a team of three we laid waste to Goderick. My friends have been pretty much playing this non stop ever since they got it, so as a result I'm the guy furthest behind in the game so far but that's mainly because I've been working on something else too which was finally released yesterday... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2782300518
